It's what I figured in the movie. If anything they just drew a normal round top and colored it in incase too much was shown since he was moving, but you'd still not see the top of his head.
Like how it was revealed Ms Bellum was drawn as up as a long neck and nothing else because there was a chance there could be an accidental chin shot
since we see three hairs like Eddys, as a kid my head canon was he idolized eddy and thought he was cool and copied his hairstyle, but saw he was such a shithead after knowing him for a while and was ashamed of his eddy hair.
