People keep commenting how interesting the world and lore is of this show, but I'm having a hard time seeing past the references and obvious inspirations to see its "creativity". Most of the show feels like disguised fan fiction, and knowing that Sugar was a heavy fan fic writer in her early days (To the point of Peridot being her fan fiction version of ZIM and Pearl basically being Double D), I wouldn't put it past that it basically is.
Is this a shitty reason for not being able to enjoy a show? Does anyone else feel this way?

Well, you're right, there are degrees to this sort of thing. But the difference between a blatant rip-off and a not so blatant one lies in execution (which /co/ has historically never given two fucks about, except for incredibly obvious missteps like Diesel). As long as the idea itself is interesting, it's treated as gold. And keep in mind that another hook for a lot of people is "I've never seen this in cartoons before!" So there's a lot of slants in the responses outside of pure excitement.
Getting irked over hype is kind of a shitty reason for being unable to enjoy a show, but it's also one you can eventually look past when you put things in perspective, and/or never, ever talk to anyone about the show ever again.

The character needs to meet a certain percentage of similarity as well as not be a literary stock character. Peridot and ZIM are also similar to Gizmo from Teen Titans (Short, green, technical geniuses who are loud and sometimes have a short fuse), so they can be considered trope characters.
Same way how all FOX Dads tend to be pudgy, wear white shirts, and are the main focus of their own sitcoms (Hank, Homer, Peter, Bob), so they would be considered stock characters as well.

People keep commenting how interesting the world and lore is of this show, but I'm having a hard time seeing past the references and obvious inspirations to see its "creativity". Most of the show feels like disguised fan fiction, and knowing that Chris-chan was a heavy fan fic writer in his early days (To the point of Sonichu basically being his fan fiction combination of Sonic and Pikachu), I wouldn't put it past that it basically is.

Greg, despite the Gems seeing him as a mess, has always been able to support Steven emotionally, only really being lost when it comes to Gem stuff.

You see Luffy acknowledging that niceties such as a war where no one gets hurt is foolish, where Steven will adamantly stand by the idea that everyone can get along. Steven saw his enemy terrified and tried to help her, where have you seen Luffy do that? Luffy has used violence on this own friends to get a message across, when have you seen Steven do that? Not all innocent heroes are the same, it's a trope both fit, but that doesn't make one a ripoff of the other. Most people here are complaining about characters in SU fitting tropes that other characters fit and calling them ripoffs while ignoring differences between characters or other characters from other shows that fit those tropes.
