One thing that makes me wonder is that x-men are mostly known for some civil rights bullshit.
Meanwhile, they introduced like half of the cool concepts to the marvel
>savage land
>arcade
>shiar
>brood
>phalanx
>madripoor
>genosha
>imperial guard
>krakoa
>hellfire club that has a lot of members, including Tony Stark
>alpha flight
among others, perhaps.

A lot of people say that x-men should be in their own universe. But imagine marvel universe without a single x-men concept or contribution.
Just imagine

FF being gone is the biggest offender.
FF is like 80% of the marvel, with Spider-Man being the 20%.

With that said, they had their best time behind them. They are too conservative for this world.
I mean, a family team? Fuck no.

Worse. They have a jew looking like a Golem. It's 100% anti-semitism. The dude that created The Thing must have been a Nazi (in case of autists, this is sarcasm)
>>
>>82388762
That's because Claremont was a creative geniuses. Dude was on a few other books and ended up bringing characters to the X-Men.
That steel guy who hijacked the Danger Room (Warhawk, I think)? Early Iron Fist villain. Same with Sabertooth and Mystique, as we all know.

People know Claremont only from the X-Men.
But he also did Iron Fist, Ms Marvel, Satana, Dracula, Marvel Team-Up (spider-man), Dr Strange, few Hulk stories, War is Hell (brilliant), Man-Thing, Spider-Woman, Original Starlord (with Byrne, Orzechowski, Austen!!!!)
>>
>>82389050
>Original Starlord
Technically, I believe Englehart did Star-Lord first.
>>
>>
>>
>>82389077
They did, and Claremont did the very next Starlord story, the one that made him a classic. Funny trivia: in the afterword for the reprinted version (there were like 3 different version), he basically wrote that he was a huge sci-fi nerd, which is why he introduced Shi'ar and Imperial Guard and Starjammer in the X-Men. It was his fave genre being used in the comic he wrote at the time.

Also notice that Claremont, like no other, was capable of playing along with other writers. I already mentioned it in previous thread, but Clare actually wrote Cassandra Nova in X-Men The End, and gave her a motivation, instead of her being a lolrandom evil sibling trope.

He didn't ignore other writers' work. Nope, he actually used continuity to write stories

>>
>>82389256

>>
>>82389256

>>
>>
>>82389256

>>
>>82389267
the amount of detail in that page is minfucking.
albeit cockrum was even more detailed.
Futurians was his strongest work. And as a matter of fact, they would be an X-Men spin-off had Cockrum not took Furutians to lodestone, a move that he regretted. The team had a lot of X-Men rejects anyway, but it's funny thing to know that there were many crossovers that never happened.

Beside X-Men / Futurians, there was also Cerebus / X-Men in the works, as well as X-Men / Nexus. Notice that both Cerebus and Nexus are "deep" indie comics.
>>
>>82389322
I think when they rebuild after the Brood fuck them up
>>
>>82389308
After 90s a lot of interesting thing happened as well, albeit in more unsuspecting way.

Face it, for better and for worse, the muties attracted normies to the larger marvel, even if they didn't really interacted with them. This is something that is baffling, because I myself got into marvel thanks to X-Men, but when I read most of the marvel stuff, the X-Men are never mentioned, or anything.
>>
>>
>>82389389
cont.
as a matter of fact, I had this feeling like marvel were embarrassed of the x-men for some reason
>>
>>
>>
>>82389389
I'm not talking about the "muh extreme!" comics, I was more referring to 90's comics being increasingly more the artist's story instead of the writer, to the point where Claremont left, feeling that he was basically a glorified dialogue writer and nothing more.
>>
>>

>>

>>
>>
>>
>>82389504
90s were a weird time. You had Silver Sable getting her own ongoing, something that would be impossible today.

People make fun of the 90s in term of the art, but comicwise, the era wasn't really that different. After Claremont left, you had two main x-books. Lobdell, doing character driven stories, and very depressing stories, I might add, despite Lobdell being a comedian by profession. And Nicieza, who was interested in doing street-level stories, with some social commentary, like he did with New Warriors.

X-books had a consistent quality, and even 90s hold a lot of gems. The biggest problem of the 90s were the tropes, but they can be easily overlooked if you don't sperg when seeing them.
>>
>>82389522

>>
>>82389750
Cockrum characters were obviously rejects from Legion of the superheroes. It's just that Cockrum and Clare had a great chemistry, and they both had the same taste in sci-fi and comics. They both are trekkies, but so is Byrne
>>
>>82389787
Marvel is in a sad state.
That's why we celebrate their best part.
The funny thing is, this time, X-Men won't save their asses. This time, Disney will close the doors, and marvel will probably publish only tie-ins to movie, in case they will continue their gimmick ways. Or they will only publish Star Wars comics.
>>
>>82389598
Speaking of Terminator, the Rachel/Nimrod story that's coming up in ~70 issues is obviously inspired by the first movie. Not 1:1 but a robot and a human coming back in time from a world where the robots betrayed us is close enough. Combine that with the release dates (October 1984 for the movie, March 1985 for Nimrod) and the influence is clear.

how do you all feel about Cyclops's beams being solar charged? do you prefer the punch dimension?
should stuff like this be ignored in continuity?

btw, iirc Xavier blew up a Sentinel with a mind bolt, and Emma Frost could blow shit up too, later they lost the ability, or it was never referenced again (although Emma does shoot beams in the Konami X-Men arcade in which she is a boss, and in the Fox cartoon)

It's more or less the same thing nowadays. Cyclops is still solar-powered, it's just that the energy his body metabolizes powers the portals in his eyes.
Now that I typed that out, that seems needlessly stupid, but I guess you gotta justify someone being able to dish out more energy than a nuclear reactor despite being solar-powered.
