>According to Simon Kinberg, this will contain more mass destruction than any of the previous X-Men films. Kinberg states: "We've spent the most time talking about creating a character that's the most powerful mutant villain that we've seen in the X-Men movies so far, more powerful than Magneto or the Phoenix! The kind of scope and scale we're talking about is like a disaster movie featuring an extinction-level event. We're talking Michael Bay/Roland Emmerich-style moviemaking, which you've never seen in an X-Men movie, or any superhero movie."

Are you hyped for Apocalypse yet?
>>
>>82382838
I want to be but the series is way past its prime, DoFP was a half-assed reboot, but it really needs a proper rebooting to keep up with the rival modern Super hero universes.
>>

Nope.

I'm rather burnt out on the whole 'mass destruction' thing.

No it doesn't. You just want it to be exactly like the MCU, when in reality this franchise has and more consistent quality and higher stakes.

Is this supposed to make me want to see the movie?

This.

First Class made me believe we were in the clear. Then as much as I love DOFP storyline and we finally got to see Sunspot, Warpath and Blink, it threw us back into the old storyline.
>>
Nope.
Becuase here's the thing. They can kill off the entire continental US, but I know JLaw is surviving this movie so I don't give a shit.

"Stakes" aren't determined by collateral damage. They're determined by characterization. And the X-men movie franchise is rather lacking on them, especially since the number of characters that get focus at all can be counted on one hand.
>>
>>82382907
>more consistent quality

Yeah because more than half the movies have been shit.

>higher stakes

That sure makes me give a damn about newly introduced characters that receive next to no characterization.
>>
>>82382859
they should have stuck with what they had created in Xmen first class instead of shitting all over it with time travel garbage in order force patrick stewart and ian mckellan back into the movies.

She's not doing any more X-movies. Her contract runs out with this one and they can't afford to re-sign her at her current rates.

The only reason they even had Halle Berry in the last one was because they signed her before she won her Oscar, and she's living on tv money now.

Synger wants to use the same mutants over and over. Remember all those First Class mutants he killed off-screen? This time he's putting mooks in the movie to be killed on-screen by Pockylips and his horsemen.

Because black super suits in an age where Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Vision, and others can somehow all exist in a mostly serious superhero movie. And that's not even getting into the Glamgardians or the Hulk.
>>
>>82384277

Just goes to show how out of touch Hollywood is with Superheroes. They equate "super hero" to "saving the world from destruction" and "action-comedy".

Man, I liked the DOFP and even more, First Class, but the only thing in this movie I can bring myself to care about is Apocalypse. And that is mostly because he is played by Oscar Isaac. This movie just looks like bad. I have no hope for this turnout out good, I just hope we get some cool Apocalypse moments.

Does anyone even thing that there will exist some of the semi-interesting moral dilemmas that were there before? With Four Horsemen, it's almost always "I feel this way"

"Oh dang, I sure messed up, better become a good guy".
>>
The DOFP trailers looked like shit too so I'm not worried right now. Oscar Isaac is giving me real hope, at this point I'll watch him in anything.

Really? There was this one that I felt had some emotion in it and I totally liked it.

>>82384600
Yeah, that is the worst thing about the movie, almost everything is so obvious that it just doesn't feel like anything _can_ go wrong. It's like Wolverine fighting some random thugs with knives.

>Then at the end we'll get a tease of Evil Prof X or Onslaught.
If that was true, I'd just never watch an X Men movie again

There was a leak on /co/ from a Fox Employee about a month ago, which detailed the plot and general stuff. According to him:

Havok has been a dead man walking long before they shot a single second of the movie. Singer has only kept him around so he can introduce Cyclops and finally wipe his hands clean of as much First Class stuff he can.

Jubilee might simply be a student that's friends with Jean. Just because she doesn't suit up doesn't mean she's going to be killed either. Could be just a glorified cameo similar to Toad or Ink in DoFP.

>ut there is a lot more we can see in our peripheral, so seeing her utilized ticks me off mostly because of the unutilized chances nearby.

The problem is movies needs stars for people to go see them at this point, and Fassbender/Macavoy aren't exactly box-office draws. None of singer's Legion of Twinks are really names either beyond Tye Sheridan but he's an up-and-comer.

JLaw is all they've got.

80s. Magneto goes back to his homeland (I know that he was retconned to be a german in comics, but before that he was hinted to be Polish).

He gets a wife, kids. Some mutant shit is happening. People get pissed and burn his house. He goes full wanton on people and embraces his Magneto side.

That's it. Anything else is irrelevant
>>
>>82385047
It's not a blanket criticism.
Characters have different expectations placed on them. Superman is supposed to save the people in the buildings. Not so much from the X-Men.
>>
>>82385047
Superman is not supposed to be edgy killer, destroyer. Meanwhile, the X-Men are known to leave cities in ruin.

Back in the time, there was this saying, that you could recognize that X-Men were here, because everything was destroyed

if I can be honest, you're the first person here who says that he is likable. but that's fine.
The big elephant in the room is Havok being Cyke's OLDER brother, and BROTHER nonetheless. I don't think it will be touched.

I hope that they won't kill Jubilee, but who knows?

Apparently, the post credits scene will feature X-Men with their costumes being more comic booky. At least, the way that Fox could swallow it.

>>82385254
I think that you should tweet it to some person that will work on that movie. I don't think they are aware of that scene, and I think that it would be possible to include that. I don't know if Liev had any contract for more movies. Could be that they would have to offer him something.

I'm about the same level of hype as I was before DOFP and First Class. Not hyped too much, Kind of expecting a trainwreck, but still very interested enough to go see on the first week.

I think The Wolverine makes X3 palatable if you want to marathon 1/2/3/Wolverine/First Class/DOFP like I'm in the middle of doing.

I'd like to see a redo of the Phoenix though if those rumors end up being true.
>>
>>82387191
The rumors are not rumors, because Singer basically said that he will do Dark Phoenix saga, only this time, the way it was supposed to be

here is what was supposed to be X-Men 3 by Singer, had he not left

Cyclops blames himself for Jean Grey's death and builds the Danger Room so the X-Men, formed by Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and Iceman, can become a more effective team. Cyclops and Wolverine slowly put their differences aside and earn newfound respect for one another.

Meanwhile, strange phenomenons begin to take place across the planet, and are attributed to a mysterious entity revealed to be Jean, who unlocked her full telepathic and telekinetic powers after her apparent death at Alkali Lake. Now calling herself "The Phoenix", Jean believes herself to be above the petty conflicts of the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants and is decided to end tensions between humans and mutants on her own.

Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants formed by Mystique, Pyro and the Juggernaut then recruit Emma Frost, Professor Charles Xavier's old flame and fellow telepath, to help them control Jean's mind and use the Phoenix's power for their own purposes. Also on their team is the skilled thief Gambit, who soon develops a kinship with Rogue that drives him to betray the Brotherhood for the X-Men.

Jean soon loses control of her powers due to Magneto's interference and Cyclops is forced to kill her with his optic blasts. Jean is then reborn as a cosmic entity, the next stage of human evolution, even more evolved than the mutants. She departs to explore the mysteries to the cosmos, reminding the X-Men that she'll always keep an eye on them.
>>
>>82387260
>Jean is then reborn as a cosmic entity, the next stage of human evolution, even more evolved than the mutants. She departs to explore the mysteries to the cosmos, reminding the X-Men that she'll always keep an eye on them.
That's a pretty dumb way to end a movie.

>The rumors are not rumors, because Singer basically said that he will do Dark Phoenix saga, only this time, the way it was supposed to be
Well his version but still good to know.

>Cyclops and Wolverine put their differences aside and respect each other
>Possibility of a better Gambit, White Queen & Juggernaut
>Danger Room
That would have been awesome.

>Jean, who unlocked her full telepathic and telekinetic powers after her apparent death at Alkali Lake.
I'd still have hated that but....
>Jean is then reborn as a cosmic entity, the next stage of human evolution, even more evolved than the mutants. She departs to explore the mysteries to the cosmos, reminding the X-Men that she'll always keep an eye on them.
This would have saved it for me.

I thought whole Mutant Cure plot was alright but the big problem about X-men 3 was after the superb buildup at the end of 2 about Phoenix we got...well you know.

At least we got Kelsey Grammar as Beast.
>>
>>82387522
The problem with Last Stand is that it was too many things at the same time. Also, the reason Cyke got offed was because Madsen himself didn't really want to act in this movie, and got something else scheduled.

Last Standing might have been the darkest time for capes, along with Batman and Robin, albeit Last Standing is not as offensive, and instead is disappointing
>>
>>82387580
>and got something else scheduled.
It wasn't just something else, Singer took him so that he could be a side character in his Superman movie.
>>
Also, as bad as Last Stand is, I cannot help myself but wonder if it would have better reviews had it been a MCU movie? It basically follows the formula, especially with crowding the movie with too many characters, lack of focus, quips, too many action scenes, and lack of depth. Pure popcorn movie.

You probably missed the last few weeks, when threads starting with "DCfags rekt" not only were deleted, but OPs were banned. The first thread provoking a console war had OP banned for everyone to see, before it got deleted, with like hundred of replies

Everyone is tired with this shit, but frankly, a lot of people want to wipe the smug off out of mcufags face.

I love the X-Men, but Civil Wart will probably blow X-Men away. Sadly. Spider-Man is too exciting for normies to pass on, and X-Men are too grim for normies to watch it.

Both movies will make profit, but the X-Men will remain in the shadows. And frankly, it's better this way, because X-Men are more known than your average capes, but it's not too mainstream to be a victim of disney method, like most of marvel capes. In X-men movies, you can actually see casualties and people being genocided.

Deadpool takes place in the present, Cable will come to the present, Cable is going to take Cannonball into x-force, which mean new mutants need to take place in the present.

Tbh Xmen 3 isn't a bad movie, but it's a really bad Xmen movie. Its pretty enjoyable when they replay it on Fx.

Wolverine Origins on the other hand is both a bad movie and a bad Xmen movie. Unless you watch the no special effects version as a comedy.
>>
Outside of the MCU cape flicks aren't looking good this year. Deadpool was a pleasant surprise considering all the things that could have gone wrong however its success was due largely to its novelty, the character's pop culture recognition and the fact it was R-rated (outside of that it was fairly mediocre. DC and Waner Bros just can't seem to get it together and as much as I want to be excited for Suicide Squad there are just too many warning signs for me fool myself into thinking it will deliver even Deadpool level of okayishness, particularly with such a large cast of cinematicly un-established characters either in half-assed costumes or casual clothes forced into a cinematic universe that is clearly trying to hard to push too much too soon.

I very much want X-Men Apocalypse to succeed, but the warning signs are too damning to ignore. Their handling of the characters and costumes might have been passable back in the early 2000s when Cape flicks were still a fledgling genre trying to establish legitimacy, but in the modern day with films like BvS and Avengers, there's really no excuse. The CGI and special effects look like an unpolished Video Game cutscene and the costumes are just shit (I mean seriously Apocalypse is only one of the more iconic villains of the franchise and you half ass it with practical effects?)

The movie could still be very good in terms of delivering enough redeemable elements to balance out its flaws, but there's no denying it will disappoint visually and that the character handling is mirroring X3 far too much for anyone's comfort. If you're a fan of the comics, don't expect to be pleased, it's quite obvious they're noodling for the white trash movie goers who cheer every time Wolverine appears on screen or hollar out "Deadpool" from the back row for no apparent reason.
>>
i dont want another fucking phoenix story line in this universe. if singer wanted to do that, he should have done it already in x-3. he decided to leave for superman or whatever.

i want sinister & the marauders. or better yet, i want a full reboot with re-casted scott, hank, & jean as the first class with no mystique.

Bay doesn't just do indiscriminate destruction, and he's usually pretty on the money at identifying what makes a franchise popular in the first place and sticking tits and explosions to it.

His movies might be garbage, but they're beautiful and enjoyable garbage.
>>

Then Gene and Prof X can combine their mental powers to reform it back together saving the world, but in doing so the strain awakens something within Xavier. DUN DUN DUN! an alternate persona that his future self had sealed within himself years ago! Onslaught is coming! Meanwhile it pans out to show the reformed moon with fissures and discoloration in the shape of an "X" on its surface.

The sad thing is you know damn good and well that this could easily happen in a Fox Cape film in this day and age.

However it still has stuff like Magneto being held at gunpoint, Poland and The Chess Scene at the end that put it above Origins and Last Stand still.
>>
>>82392105
While the point you're trying to make still stands there is a fair amount of indiscriminate destruction in his films. And while they can be beautiful, them being enjoyable depends largely on your IQ and demographic. He sells a quality product targeted at tweens, sub-normers, troglodytes and white-trash, the same people who guarantee any video game that has pretty enough graphics or tryhard enough appeal will hit 1 million sold no matter how shitty it is. Still, as you said that's at least a successful formula where as this movie really begs the question of just how low people are willing to set their standards in a cape film this day and age.

>>82392328

Sweet fucking Loki, The Man of Murder posting, & MCU's brushing any assumption of casualties with quips have rotted your minds. Were you expecting a action movie to have dance offs in pillow fortresses set in a empty desert? The future of Comic Book movies is more grim than i imagine. Don't let the /co get you down. Most of /co is just worried the MCU will stop being popular with normal people who don't hang out on comics/superhero message boards. They judge how much they like these movies based on how much they hear the people they want to be like talk about these movies.

If you enjoy your FoX-Men, then enjoy your FoX-Men and others (like myself) will as well.

FoX-Men is never going to be as much of a meme as the MCU is, but that's probably a good thing. What's important is these good movies make money and continue doing what they are doing.
