Susan is best girl.
>>
Used to have this on VHS years ago. I never saw the Wyrd Sisters adaptation that went with it though.

Pratchett's work would deserve at least one decent adaptation, dammit!

Nah it's better this way.
But I'd have liked a Guards! Guards! Adaptation

It's for the best.

Hey they recently re-confirmed the Watch series is still in production. I have hopes for that. Also Terry left a letter to Neil Gaiman telling him to do a Good Omens adaptation.

What Discworld book would make the best movie? And who should do it? Guards! Guards!? Night Watch would be great. Too bad you need to understand Sam's rise from the previous books to really get the most out of it though.

No thanks I don't want creatures from the dungeon dimensions coming out of the screen thank you very much. Speaking of that book though I quite liked Victor and thought it was a shame we never saw him again.

>>82381060
>>82381077
I think this is probably the story with the most mainstream appeal yeah. Though my personal favorite Vimes moment was when he killed the werewolf in The Fifth Elephant.
>>

Still adore Detritus and Cuddy palling around town together on duty. I would expect Detritus' experience in the Future Pork cooler would be something a la 2010 Space Odyssey's "IT'S FULL OF STARS".

Does /lit/ hate fun or something?

Discworld isn't hard to read, but that's what makes it so enjoyable and hard to put down.
>>
>>82381193
>New guy in charge of hell takes it from a place of medieval torture and transforms it into an office environment and everyone thinks it's worse.

>Sisyphus needs to hear a health and safety seminar whenever he starts rolling his boulder up the hill now and even the demon whose in charge of his torture feels bad for him.

>One torture is just a demon showing people pictures from his vacation enthusiastically

loved that.
>>
>>82381295
>>82381300

I refuse to believe /lit/ dislikes Discworld. I mean it isn't high literature, even Pratchett said so. But they're just so fun to read. Plus he put in Blues Brothers references in a fantasy series. How can you not love that?

What did they do to dance on his grave?

What do people think is the best current adaptation of Discworld? I'm reading through the whole series for the first time right now and watching the adaptations as I go. About to finish reading Going Postal do that's next on my watch list.

/lit/ hates genre literature with a passion and they complained that all the normies starting coming to their board after he died.
>>
>>82381417
The first Discworld "installment" I knew about was the second video game and it is still a pretty good condensation of the early books or rather of the time when the early books started to transition into the style he had later on.
>>
How does /co/ feel about the Discworld boardgames? I personally think that the Ahnk-Morpork and Witches games are good, but the two manufactured by Backspindle take some getting used to.

It's good if DON'T play the kiddie version, trust me, the "kid-friendly" rules for Backspindle products are actually harder to work with that the full ruleset...mainly because they leave out things you need to make the game playable.
>>
>>82381751
Yeah. All human sensations of pleasure overload her mind. Even the slightest sensation of her taste buds puts her mind in a state of pure bliss that threatens to tear her body apart. God it was hot. Liked her interactions with Susan too.

God I hope the Watch series dares to do Nightwatch.
It'd be fucking amazing.
>>
>>82382380
Well let's talk facts with some bonus opinions

The post office catching fire reads like it's the climax and the story could have ended at that point. The real climax is so drawn out and the way in which it's presented makes it lack any punch

Reacher has almost no presence in Moist's story and their rivalry comes off as forced

A few ideas and threads are brought up briefly and then dropped without being explored further (letters having their own will, moist becoming an avatar, the secret mail order). The book just has so many different ideas and asides that are entertaining but don't serve the plot and leave it feeling bloated and messy.
>>
Now that we are living in the era of lesbians I think a Monstrous regiment adaptation is in order.
>>
>>82382843
>we are living in the era of lesbian
Lesbians is beyond cliché now, no self-respecting medium would do that shit at this point.
>>
>>82382739
The Watch series will be original stories, pretty sure.
>>
I wish Terry wasn't afraid to draw leading women as silly.
>>
>>82382977

Nanny was never leading, Granny, Susan, Polly, and Tiffany were leading. And even among supporting women Nanny was an oddity compared to Sybil, Angua, Magrat, and Adora. The only time Terry wrote women as silly was in Monstrous Regiment when he wrote them as men.
>>
>>82382322

I'm afraid to read the Shepherd's Crown. I've heard it's something he never really finished and people just pieced it together after he died. And I don't want there to be a last Discworld book.

>>82384204

>>
>>82384334
I won't lie it's not one of his better works, you can clearly see how his illness is affecting him throughout the entire book.
It does however bring closure to the series and it's not a bad book.
>>
>>82384347
I'll have to check them out. Not really into audiobooks personally so I haven't heard it.
>>
>>82384392
Nigel Plainer, that's the name. I've been using my audible.com credits on Discworld books and he's an absolute delight. Every character he voices is wonderful. I love his Ridcully especially.

I've got it on my shelf. I just have got to stop being a pussy and read it.
>>
>>82383010
I like the idea of a serial detective series using the Watch cast. One thing I liked about Terry is he wasn't prudish about adaptations of his work. He liked seeing people do their own interpretations of it as long as they respected the source material.

>>
>>82387803

>YOU BELONG DEAD.
>>
>>82387803
It's a constant tossup for me between Death and Vimes. I'm fairly new to the series, is there any book where the two of them work together? I know Death shows up regularly throughout the series, but is there any particular book where they are the protagonists together?
>>
>>82387888
>IT SEEMS YOU ARE HAVING A NEAR-DEATH-EXPERIENCE. WHICH MEANS, UNFORTUNATELY, I MUST HAVE A NEAR-VIMES-EXPERIENCE.
>>
>>82387888
Not really but they do interact briefly.
>>
>>82381625

Raising Steam honestly isn't very good. The story just meanders along introducing new ideas without a real point before the actual conflict is introduced two-thirds in, at which point the protagonists face no opposition and achieve all of their goals without issue. The plot somehow feels bloated and threadbare at the same time. If you do want to read it I would recommend not making it the last book you read in the series.
>>
>>82388161
I think that book was just Pratchett's attempt to make sure Discworld was heading into the 20th century while he still could.
>>
>>82388503
Surely you mean Century of the Fruitbat, anon.
>>
>>82388161
Yep, it felt like this.

>>82384474

It's a close race. Vimes and Weatherwax can't be easily counted out.
>>
>>82382739
Night Watch will never get the adaptation it deserves. I don't think it's possible.
>>
>>82383029
When I first read the book I imagined them actually being played by men until they revealed they were women and then a woman would play them from then on.

This got really funny when Benedicta revealed herself near the end of the book.
