Do you think there should be more autistic characters in animation?

Like OP?
>>
>>82378190
Yes because it's something that hasn't been attempted before.
>>
The best way to treat autism is just pretend it doesn't exist.

>you will never be a cartoon character

>>82378190
sure why not.

As long as their character is actually well rounded/written, and isn't just "lookit me i'm autistic boohoo" 24/7 and not having any other personality traits, I can get behind it.

This.
Any character with a disability or different race can be put in a cartoon without it being their main trait.
>>
I don't know. Autism tends to express itself by either making people excessively boring and dull, in light cases, or making them... well, literally retarded, in severe cases.

Neither are what you'd call very engaging character traits.

Reminds me of an essay written by an autistic person about how they wanted to be a fictional character so that what other people expected of them would be straightforward and consistent.
>>
No.
Abnormality shouldn't be intentionally normalised.

If you make more that's fine but creating a character because there is some 'need' for more representation makes my fucking skin crawl.
>>
>>82379248
The retard kid is less retarded than Dora
>>
>>82378190

No because Adventure Time sucks.
>>
>>82378710

Making them not even aware of it would be realistic.
>>
Since autism is a badge of honor nowadays, I'm surprised there isn't a show based around an autist.

But there are already shows for this very reason. I mean, Caillou's got enough autism in him to fill the entire spectrum, there's no need for more shows to recreate that.

I don't really give much of a fuck either way to be honest

I think if there is an Autistic character, it should simply be part of who that character is, not their entire personality and raison d'etre. They should have an important part in a larger story, not just be there to say "hey we have an autistic person in our story, isn't that inclusive?"

>>82379159
>I don't know. Autism tends to express itself by either making people excessively boring and dull, in light cases, or making them... well, literally retarded, in severe cases.
You must be around some boring as fuck autistic people. If anything, autism makes people entertaining as hell if you play your cards right.
>>
>>82380309
No, it doesn't.
>>
>>82380441
Not with that attitude, no. Granted the only way to make them entertaining is to turn them into your personal chris-chan and that does take some effort
>>
>>82379367
Hey, I'm allowed to do it, it's like that thing with black people and the word nigger.

>>82380309

I am a boring as fuck person with Aspergers. And so were most people I've met who have the condition. As far as mental disabilities go, it's not very exciting.

Yeah it's usually very rare to meet someone with autism/asperger's who's interesting. I should know, I'm one of the boring ones. Though my rage issues/anxiety/on and off depression at least make me a bit more interesting (Or so I hope)

It's a matter of time before Sesame Street throws in a male puppet wearing a dress just to appeal to snowflakes. I'm kinda surprised that they haven't got shit for this thing yet.
>>
>>82378330
This is what happens when you don't intervene with autism
>>

god, fuck...that is...well...fuck.

I consider myself a fairly entertaining person and I have autism. I've got around 25 close friends I hang out with every week and around 40 I see less often, so I'm not a social outcast. I make plenty of people laugh; not fake awkward laughter, genuine holy shit what did you just say laughter. The difference between me and your average autist is that I dedicated a lot of my time in my childhood trying to understand facial expressions, social cues, comedic timing, and sometimes weirder stuff such as why people enjoy music or masturbate (I don't).

It's not impossible but it's certainly rare to meet people like me who can blend in near perfectly with normies. I'm no Chad but I certainly think I'm doing well for myself. To any of you social reject autists out there reading this, I have only one thing to say: Use your disability to say shit outside the norm to your advantage. Every great comedian got that way by being a little edgy.

This. You'd be surprised how many people are off guard by the complete lack of a goddamn filter

I'm autistic, my main interest is music though (along with cartoons) which has led me into social situations, I don't get anxiety but I do find I am much quieter than everyone else and have no idea how people can talk so much about nothing at all. I do suppose I must be very boring to them.
>>
>>82378190
Yeah, it would great if someone made an animated character based off you, OP.
>>
>>82381801
Use your quietness to your advantage, man. When you rarely talk that turns everything you say into something rare, it can turn your speech into an event of sorts. Sometimes a quiet person saying the right thing at the right time can be just what the conversation needed, even if it's just a small addition.
>>
>>82378190
all cartoon characters are autistic

>posting an example
He's the only good autistic character out there, even if his trope is just being autistic.
Plus, he hates the color brown.

He's perfect for 4chan

>>82380121
the small eyes, and eye bags look very downsyrome-like.
.... or she could be half asian. We never saw her dad.
>>
>>82380441
Depends really.
I'm on the spectrum though it's not severe or anything, so my entire life doesn't revolve around one special interest or whatever, which makes it easier to make friends with people and have normal conversations.

But you never really know who's on the spectrum or not, some of the funniest people i've known have been hiding that fact for years because they didn't want it to change how people saw them.
