I don't get the weird decision to start slapping Gwen onto things and having people eat that shit up.
For decades the only claim to fame Gwen Stacy ever had was "she was the nerdy Spiderman GF what did die she did" and was interchangeable with whatever love interest Peter had at the time.
Then Spidergwen comes out (and admittedly her cool costume played a part) and from the very second we see a glimpse of her weeks before knowing anything people are all "yaaas Gwen Stacy the girl we've always wanted is back and better than ever my waifu".
Now we have Gwenpool and from the second she exists everyone everywhere went into the same "it's like Deadpool but with the amazing and cute and funny character Gwen Stacy amazing what a triumph".
That's not saying anything about the quality of Spidergwen or Gwenpool but this sudden love for a character that, for the most part, has been irrelevant and ignored by fans rebranded as some archetype for hip young women heroes that people adore from right out the gate is weird.
Like Gwenpool could just be "teenage quirky blonde deadpool" with no relation to Gwen Stacey in anyway and, while the quality of the product would change in no way at all, people wouldn't be as crazy about it even if only a little less so.

The costume was a hit so marvel gave her an ongoing and that sold well, so they did had Gwen variants. They noticed Gwenpool cosplayers and realized that Deadpool was gonna be more popular thanks to his movie, so they had backups of her. That apparently did well enough so they gave her an ongoing.
If the Spider-Gwen issue from Spiderverse hadn't gotten as much attention then they wouldn't have done the ongoing or the variants or Gwenpool.
It's not really weird, it's just a trend. And trends come and go. There seems to be a slight push back from some fans against hip quirky teenage girls and womanchildren since some of the heroes that were already established got changed some (Batgirl, Starfire, Hellcat, etc). So we'll have to see how long it lasts.
