Now I'm wondering, based on the concept art with Sharon instead of Wanda, if Sharon was supposed to be on Team Cap originally.

In some ways the airport fight would make more logical sense that way. That way Cap's team would be the clear underdog, fighting above its level and holding its own until Vision shows up and tries to overpower everyone.

This way Cap's team has someone super-powerful who's holding back and they really don't seem like underdogs.

I'm glad Wanda's in the movie, I just am wondering if they were originally not going to use her as much.

I think what happened is that Sharon was more important in the original Cap 3, and when they went for Civil War, they tried keeping some of her importance, but they ended up with Wanda instead to level up the teams.

Yeah, he's the doctor tending to Natasha when Bucky shoots her.

They said in the directors commentary that he had a fake moustache in some takes, but when they did the reshoots they couldn't get a similar one or couldn't get it to stick, so they ended up CGI'ing the moustache out from what they'd shot already.

When he shows up with the moustache I lost my shit.

Overall, this movie had less than no impact on me because fuck you Spoilers and fuck me for looking at them.
I liked it a lot, the Airport Battle was hype as all fuck and pic related gave me a hyperboner from the fact that he's so perfect. I need more.
BP was based as all living hell, royal as fuck and a badass all around.
I genuinely felt bad for Tony, he's had a hard life. And I won like $500 from betting that Cap would win with my retarded friends.
All the secondary characters were great too, no one felt crammed in and we got good characterizations for them all.
ANTS.
That's it, just ANTS. It's self explanatory.
Witch and Vision were legit, it seems the Russo really wanna make them a thing.
The parallel references to the comic were so well implemented.
Zemo wasn't as I expected, but he was pretty fucking good for what he was supposed to represent.
Story felt flimsy at times, but it was overall solid. Same for the fighting choreography.
CGI was fucking ugly most of the time, like, jesus. Tony was suffering from the GL floating-head syndrome pretty badly.
War Machine got what he deserved in terms of character, he was very well represented and executed.
Anything else...?
Well, I'm super hyped for Black Panther and Spider-Man Homecoming.
All in all, 8.5/10. I'm gonna see it until I'm poor.

I've got to admit, even though it's annoying that movies are basically promos for other movies, the Russos did a good job of setting the table:

- Introduce the MCU version of Spider-Man
- Introduce Black Panther and get people hyped for his movie
- Make Ant-Man more popular so his sequel will do better

Pretty ruthlessly efficient.

>>

>CGI was fucking ugly most of the time, like, jesus. Tony was suffering from the GL floating-head syndrome pretty badly.
Floating head was bad, yeah. That's something I've noticed with a lot of MCU films: the CGI is never straight up terrible, but considering they have the blockbuster market by the balls you'd really expect it to be better. The only time Ive been impressed by it was the Hulk in the first Avengers.
Both IM3 and Cap2 had really poor looking water, and despite the fact that his drone's looked fine, Ultron himself looked like a PS2 cutscene come to life.

Just came back from watching it

I really liked that it feels like a civil war, nobody really wins and all it does is divide. That aside fuck Cap all that shit and Bucky goes to sleep that felt like a huge middle finger after the whole fuckfest that he causes.
Also I guess it's because it's his movie but I really didn't like how much everyone shits on Tony, poor fucker ends up with half of his team and cap keeps his plus BP

Tony tried so hard to keep Cap on his side, but he kept failing at every turn. It took crippling one of his best friends and seeing who was really responsible for the death of his parents to finally break apart.

Have you seen the movie? He gets some solid hits in, takes out Bucky and lays in to Cap. They show things from his perspective for a bit and it's pretty overwhelming, and you can see how it'd be possible for him to be overpowered without it feeling like he's jobbing.

Like this anon said:
>>82367768
There really isn't a clear 'winner'. Cap beats Tony, sure, but everyone gets hurt pretty bad and no one really leaves happy. Doesn't feel like a victory, and does a much better job of selling the 'Avengers are split' style ending than AoU did.

I feel a little bad for Chris Evans that he didn't get a "real" third Captain America film after doing so well in the first two.

Yes, this is more his movie than Batman vs. Superman was Superman's movie, of course, but it still feels like a bigger star being airlifted in to pump up the box office, and a movie that is half Cap 3 and half Avengers 3.

>>82366638
I like how the incident which sparked the protocol was similar to the comic book civil war but just smaller in scale.

>Villain blows himself up as one last "Fuck You" to the heroes.

The movie further shows it's going to differentiate itself from the comic books by having it be Crossbones who blows himself up (as he's the one who kills Captain America post civil war) along with the explosion killing a lot less people showing the "War" isn't going to be anywhere near as big as the one in the comic book with the Avengers solely being the "cause" of it.

Also I wonder if Zemo's comment about Captain America's eyes was a sly nod to his original Nazi comic book heritage.

Wasn't voluntary though, it's not like he chose to retire and it's that ambiguity that leaves his arc feeling resolved, unless they're saving it up for Infinity War. I really want to know what they have in store for Bucky though. They basically gave him the "Han Solo in carbonite" treatment but Stan has a full nine movies on his contract so it's unlikely his story is over.

>>
>>82368601
AoU felt less tied into the other movies. CW references events in the Cap movies, Avengers, Iron Man 3 and even to the Ant Man movie with Pym's dislike of Starks.
AoU just had characters from the movies without feeling it had any connection to other events.
>>
I was really surprised with how "violent" Bucky killing Tark parents was for a movie for kids
>>
>>82368620
Think about how easily Cap tore apart the Ultron Drones versus him getting tossed around by Crossbones. Don't get me wrong, the stakes were definitely higher in AoU with the whole city drop thing, but every fight in that film was extremely one sided.

I wasn't worried because Ant-Man and the Wasp had already been announced a long time ago and I doubt they'd replace him with O'Grady or make Douglas do it.
>>
>>82369301
Man, the word quip has lost it's meaning and has taken over the meaning of 'joke'.

Whedon writes quips, where every single character tries to one-up the last one and have the final sarcastic say. That gets boring and out of character for Cap and Vision and Ultron especially. It's especially bad because Whedon always writes his dialogue scenes around it. You can always hear them coming, and he gives pause for applause.

That's not to say that they don't work. I don't think there's a lot of quips in AoU that got 0 laughs. In fact, whenever people are talking about favourite lines from the MCU, but there was no-one that laughed at ALL the jokes. The ones that don't land for you really fucking stand out. Repeated viewings exacerbate this to the point where you can't not cringe at it, especially the predictable timing. It then becomes very hard to take the few serious lines seriously because you're annoyed instead of engaged. It works in Firefly and Buffy because they are the underdogs, but the Avengers are the top dogs in AoU. They come off as arrogant most of the time.

Besides having calmer/more serious dialogue from time to time, the Russos and Gunn write jokes with proper setup. If the punchline isn't unexpected, the delivery/timing is. Like Starlord dropping the orb. He lingers on it a bit more than you'd expect every single time so it catches your off-guard. You laugh at the wit of the writer and not the character.

Because if all the characters are witty, then you just have a pretentious writer who thinks everyone should hear all their jokes. The Russos and Wright do this unexpected timing very fucking well by simply barraging you with simple jokes. You often get 1 or 2 per sentence but you never actually see where they are going until the punchline. Taika Waititi is on a whole other level, though. Maybe it's because he's Kiwi or something, He's really fucking great at catching you off-guard without spamming jokes.

IM3 actually set Tony's retirement as Iron Man: Man in a Can, not Iron Man: The Mechanic. The final scene in which he says "after all... I am Iron Man" means he's not going to stop being "The Mechanic" and trying to fix the world.

He was too dependent of his suits, and of his hero identity, so he got rid of that. That all explains his new goals of world peace and people general security with drones in AoU, because now it's "we have to fight so we can get to go home".
>>
>>82369637

Anons, let's not forget everything the Avengers ever fought was their own fault. With the exception being HYDRA stuff.

Think about it. Captain America exists because they used a super serum that also gave birth to Bucky, Red Skull, Hulk and Abomination. Tony made Stane, Vanko and Killian possible with his tech and bad personality. The first Avengers was all on Thor's fault for luring his brother to the Earth. The second one was on Stark for creating Ultron.

It's just like Vision said. The inlfux of super beings actually creates more super villain events and that ends up leading to catastrophes. Zemo is just another "victim".

>>82369792

Same way Vision is the mind gem giving a mind to JARVIS and ultron vibranium body.

>>
>>82369890
>Zemo is just another "victim".
Is he?

Also, Bucky didn't used a super serum, he would be created wether or not cap existed, Red Skull came to be before buffed Steve was a thing, and i'm pretty sure Hulk was the result of gamma fuckery, not trying to replicate the serum like they did with Abomination. And i'm not sure if those things were really Thor's fault, since you could make a case of it being Odin's fault for throwing Mjolnir on Earth instead of any of the other realms. You're right on the rest, though; but it's not like Vision, BP, Hankman or Spidey existing brought more super villains on Earth. Yet.

Actually, scratch Vision from that list, considering Thanos exists.
>>

Tony has quipped in his third act fights since forever.

It's completely logical that Ultron would too.

CW is different only because he is emotionally broken by what happened to Rhodey and what he learned from Zemo.

People complain about quips to an unreasonable degree.
>>
>>82370434
That's pretty interesting
>>
>>82369827
To be fair, not all of them were quipping in the Sokovia scene, Clint and Wanda were pretty serious, and i think Cap too. In fact, i don't remember anyone but Tony, Rhodes, Mercury, and maybe Sam quipping there.

I think.
>>
>>82370541

They all get lines here and there, but honestly, only Ultron and Tony are the quippiest.

And its actually toned down a bit in the third act.

It seems to me people are just triggered by jokes and a Tony-based Ultron.
>>
>>82370434
Maybe they did a too good job with him because I never got the Uncanny Valley or suspected he was that much CGI.
>>

▲▲
>>
>>82370455
Yeah, but if everyone quips and is generally trying to one-up each other, Tony just comes out on top as the biggest cunt of the bunch.

Also, a 3 arc structure works best, and Ultron should've been one of his lowest points, because nobody stole anything, he just really fucked up for the first time.

>>82370541
Yeah, it's not THAT bad, it's just compounded with the rest of the movie and a dash of confirmation bias. I still think they should've subverted the expectations and go full serious after Sokovia lifts up. I think they earned the seriousness at that point.

Wanda never quips, but Clint does that whole speech about QS, Cap is telling Ultron "you didn't finish" while throwing him off a cliff, Natasha is calling Tony shell-head and stuff like that, Thor is talking shit to Ultron.

>>82370658
I fully admit there's confirmation bias adding on to it, but they should be giving people what they don't expect, is my point. It's also the delivery and timing of it all.

I much prefered Civil War Tony who was quippy until he got serious for once, although I guess that was bottled up because of Ultron, so the quality differential adds to Civil War?
>>
>>It's just like Vision said. The inlfux of super beings actually creates more super villain events and that ends up leading to catastrophes.

> Wanda leaves Earth because of this.
> Thanos arrives and kills Vision.
> Top Kek Vision killed by his own logic.
>>
>>82370735

I think the quip complain relates to the idea that AOU should've been the Empire Strikes Back of the MCU.

Except its not.

You don't make ESB by having a hellcarrier come in to save the day, and focusing on all the Avengers helping people.
