Alright, /co/. Disney decides to build another franchise gives you direction over a Zootopia graphic novel. Its contents will be considered canon for the rest of the Zootopia universe. Art direction is up to you, as is the plot. What will you unleash?

I just saw it.
It was pretty fun, but how does the economy work, guys? Given the prices at the elephant ice cream place, can I assume that larger animals are paid more and smaller ones are paid less because of the respective amount of work they do? Are large unskilled laborers still paid more than skilled small workers because the lives of small mammals cost less? If there are self-sustaining communities for rodents, does that mean nobody cares? Is Lemming Brothers comparatively not actually worth that much?
Given the investment bankers and scammers, this clearly isn't a world in which there's a basic income...
Also I could totally go into business in racism there. Nobody has companies that sell nigger repellant here.
So how many distinct versions of the Blu-ray/dvd release are coming out?
Amazon/Disney with the lithographs, and Target with the extra scenes/commentary, right?
>>82364496
Bruh why
>>82364519
a mouse laborer would probably get paid a fraction of, say, an elephant laborer, but the mouse would also only have a tiny cost of living

So that's what I figured at first, but rodents have giant families. Does a rabbit family of 120 take the same amount of cash to support as an elephant family of 3?
If so, would hiring small labor be cheaper if at all possible? Are large animals forced into only physical labor?
Could you get away with grossly underpaying small employees? Is there a relatively equal pay act?

I would create a TV show continuing Judy and Nick's story with them solving cases with the ZPD, the supporting cast would be expanded.

I'd try my best not to shoehorn OCs and mostly develope the rest of the ZPD. I could see McHorn as being Judy's rival, Fangmier as a master of disguise method actor, Higgins as the teacher's pet, and Francine as someone who doesn't know her own strength and causes a lot of property damage but gets the job done.
It's perfect for containing multiple short stories that may or may not relate to each other, but one big over arching plot about the ZPD would take up most of the pages.
>>82365456
I don't know why people keep saying this was Disney's B movie.
Anyone who has read anything regarding the production of this film can tell Disney has poured its heart and soul into making a damn good film. Nothing "B" about it. John Lasseter said, and I quote, "I believe the cleverness and fun add up to make Zootopia one of hte most entertaining films we've ever made. At its heart, it's pure Disney. But it's also unlike anything seen before in animation."
Disney doesn't have a "B" team they assign this shit to. It's just Disney, pure and simple. They have different teams working on different projects, but none of them "outrank" one another like so many people seem to think.

I dropped this idea a while ago: Judy and Nick have kids, at least 2, with one male rabbit and female fox. One of the subplots is the boy coming to terms with not being able to match his sister physically, and the girl having to come to terms with being the one who isn't petite andcute.

Ever since Bob Iger took over and became friends with Steve Jobs, John Lasseter, and Ed Catmull, and initiated the merger between Disney and Pixar, the creative cultures at both companies have flourished tremendously.
Disney had everything to do with this film. Disney is responsible for collaborating every artist involved with the film. Without Disney, this film did not happen. Accept it and stop with the blind bashing.

That is false. Pixar made some very useful suggestions to Disney on how they could make the story better. Pixar has no authority over Disney's animation studios, the same way Disney animation studios have no authority over Pixar. They operate autonomously of one another, but are more than willing to help each other out creatively. It is a symbiotic relationship where neither is in charge.

Disney is one of the WORST fucking corporations you will ever have the displeasure of seeing in business, however, they do hire really talented people. When Disney doesn't meddle in the affairs of a movie, and actually lets movie geniuses like Byron and Lasseter do their fucking jobs, the movie comes out as something special. Especially when the movie being forced to conform to Oscar-bait standards. History repeating itself is satisfying in this case, but it's also frustrating. When will those hacks learn that pandering to a fucking minority is box office suicide, while movies like Zootopia, that can cover the Lowest common denominator, while appealing to high brow film critics, get results. And good fucking results at that, if Zootopia gets jewed out of it's much deserved Oscar to the trash that is Moana I'm gonna play tea party with the bottles under the sink.
>>82366721
That isn't how the Disney/Pixar merger works at all. Pixar and Disney's respective studios work entirely independently of one another. Disney owns Pixar, but Pixar drew up very specific rules for how Pixar would remain creatively in control of all of its own productions. Disney and Pixar do not even allow one another to borrow staff members between productions.
Disney doesn't get to tell Pixar to do jack shit. Disney acquired Pixar because they sorely needed Pixar's help, and telling Pixar what to do would not have helped Disney get back on top.

I wish people didn't care about the Oscars, anon, but they do.
Like it or not there are idiots who put stock into it, and it is truly unfair when truly masterful works get shafted because voters base their choices on what their kids liked or what they heard of because they don't take animation seriously as a medium.
It has gone from a decent category to a freebee Oscar to Pixar or Disney, and looking forward I fail to see how any non-Disney-produced film (this includes Pixar) will win simply because they are the only company the masses seem to care about.

Nah. I just don't let memery dictate my viewpoints on companies. How many people in this thread actually know anything about Disney or Pixar's inner workings outside of the headlines they give the occasional cursory glance?
People just parrot what they see posted on the interwebs and like to feel smart and informed.

This reminds me, a drawfriend was gonna do Nick in an Imperial Commissar's uniform, did he ever deliver?

it could have been solved by simply saying "Dick the Finnick"
I mean it wouldn't even change anything.
The thought of a Japanese girl walking out of Zootopia saying this provides sufficient amusement.
>>82367045
Yep, definitely a Disney employee.
If not then just another delusional Disney-fag who spends their time commenting on sites like CartoonBrew where he sucks off everything Disney does and bashes everything all other companies do.
I'd believe either one.

You've got this so fucking backwards, the headlines glorify Disney.

Also there's the whole wage scandal (that all animation companies in U.S. were guilty of apparently) and the fact that Disney was going to lay off American workers after they made them train their foreign replacements.
Oh yea... totally a nice, friendly, kind corporation we've got there.
"When you wish upon a star..."
>>82367142
Look I'd totally work for Disney too despite my views, but it's time for you to stop posting, kid. You're making a fool of yourself.
>>82367163
It really is legitimately funny that you think I work for Disney just because I don't parrot the "disney is le evil" meme like everyone else. It really does say a lot about your ability to critically think about anything.
>>82367235
>>82367243
I think you'll find that in no posts were there any claims that Disney is some kind of saintly haven for animators and creatives. It has its flaws like any company.
But people seem to be under the impression (passionately so) that Disney is this stagnant, money-hungry beast that has absolutely no regard for creativity or thinking outside the box. And it's a simply facile view.

Not that anon, but my major gripe is that - for the most part- Disney is running a successful business, but by doing so (and flooding the market with their films which are, for the most part, pretty bland and generic) they are killing film as an art form and reducing it to shallow entertainment.
Also I like to see some competition, and I find it funny how people that so often bitch and moan about corporations and monopolies are perfectly fine with Disney despite the fact that it is one of the most blatant examples of a monopoly on the planet.

Nobody is being forced to work at Disney Animation Studios. There are no artists under contract working at Disney ever since the Disney/Pixar merger in 2005. Pixar made this change because they did not want any artist who did not want to work there to be obligated to stay, because they knew it would produce subpar work.

Such a monopoly that Kung Fu Panda 3 is still the 5th-highest-grossing movie of this year at $142 million. And last year, Minions only snuck $336 million past Disney's monopolistic stranglehold blockade. Something clearly must be done.
The sheer amount of DIDF shilling in this thread is abhorrent.
Maybe i missed something but.... if Nicks get as much moneys as he says since he was 12 and he pay no taxes for it....

It's the reason Chris Sanders was booted from American Dog... and then Disney went ahead and tore the entire concept apart into the generic-as-fuck Bolt.
Disney, when the executives are involved does not end up making art it makes a product. Zootopia was art because there weren't the executives breathing down Byron and Rich's necks so they could make the film they wanted (with a little help, but nothing overbearing).

Chapter 12 of Ed Catmull's book, "Creativity Inc":
>If Disney bought us and then John or I or certain other leaders left the company, they felt, it would be a disaster, so they asked that we all sign contracts before the deal went through. We declined. It is a tenet of the Pixar culture that people should work there because they want to, not because a contract requires them to, and as a result, no one at Pixar was under contract. But even though this rejection was based on a core belief, it made the deal feel questionable for Disney. On the Pixar side, meanwhile, there was considerable concern that the Disney bureaucracy would inadvertently destroy what we had built. Both sides, then, felt at considerable risk. The result, though, was that at the heart of this merger was an understanding that both companies had to trust each other. Each side felt a personal obligation to live up to the intent of the agreement—and I believe this was the ideal way to begin our relationship.
>>82367483
>KFP
Universal is the other side of the crooked coin flip, they're more live action based though, and they only occasionally dip their feet in animation. They're too busy with their capeshit garbage to pay much attention. Same with Disney only occasionally going into Live action.
>The Minions
Shouldn't even be fucking considered, it wasn't a movie so much as it was a 2 year marketing campaign leading up to a bunch of people tossing money at movie tickets to make the incessant Comedy pills stop showing up.

You can believe that as much as you want; it doesn't make it true. How did you manage to make one statement decrying the efficacy of getting rid of contracts at Disney and then make a statement talking about how amazing Zootopia was because Byron and Rich didn't have executives breathing down their necks? You don't think those two events are related at all?
What would you do at Dinde worl?
>>82367639

honestly the only thing that is really horrible about Minions is the nightmarish marketing bombardment.
And the fact that it's obviously literally how fucking Emojis got a fucking movie. Because they're basically the same thing.
I remember back when we were waiting for Japan to get the movie so they'd flood us with new artwork.
Some of them took the opportunity to doodle English practice in their homework.
