I know this is heresy here, but I actually like Legend of Korra. I really like it actually. It definitely has lower moments than ATLA ever reached, but it also has higher moments as well, so it kind of even outs in my mind. Because I feel like Korra's journey is complete at the end of 4. It's not as satisfying as it could have been, since it feels rushed, but at the same time I don't think you could eke out another season. Wan's journey in the spirit world was interesting, as were the episodes and times spent in it during the main course of the show, but I don't think following Asami and Korra through the spirit world would make for a good season, and if you skip past that then you kind of ruin the happy ending "walking into the sunset" vibe that the real ending had.

Her two character plots were either: a. resolved by someone else or b. nearly resolved within the span of an entire commercial break and then were never brought up again. I liked Borra too and all but if it had been canon instead, Korra probably would have succeeded in tricking the United Republic into entering the war between the water tribes.
Borra is a ship that's fun if you conveniently forget Bolin's naivety and lack of spine and how bad Korra can get when she's under a lot of stress and pressure. Imagine Bolin spiel to Su in book 4 and then picture him trying to comfort Korra. She's too high-maintenance for him.

But the thing is that they didn't have any time for it, what with the 12 episode seasons and deciding to takle Makorra once the plot got going.
If it was something handled early in the season, maybe.
But they decided to have Mako going after Korra immediately after they had Asami become the most sympathetic character of the first season.
My mind can't even fathom what was going on in their heads when they were working on those episodes.
They don't even have the excuse of the decision to keep Asami a good gal fucking things up, because that came way before they did those episodes.

They definitely planted the seeds of Korrasami in Book 3 and 4 but I still think it wasn't enough to lead to a really a good pay off. Part of that is also because of how lame Asami is, she would've need a lot more development for her to turn into an interesting character worth ending the series on.

Agreed. They were well aware of the fandom preference by then (not to mention the voice actress themselves were pro Korrasami), and they did have legit chemistry to go that route by that time.
