Movies always come out on Thursday where I'm from, so I've had the chance to actually see it. And honestly I'm surprised its getting shat on so hard. Now the movie is by no means perfect, I'll get this out of the way. Some jokes fall flat, they could've done a better job establishing Ratchet and Clank as friends. The main problem with every video game movie is that they try to adapt a plot that was already told in the game. Video games don't follow a three act structure and a lot of elements that connect cutscenes come from the gameplay and players choices so cramming what like 10 to 20 hours of gameplay/story in a 90 minute movie is already makes the film dead on arrival.
I do wonder how the series will move on, the movie seems to be heading for a flop but the game has been received well both critically and commercially.

Honestly, the game was bad too. Too focused on the Quark/Ratchet relationship but without any of the plot elements, villains doing things with motivations explained in gameplay voiceovers, and being switched out at whim. The locales were right but attempts to fit in parts of the old games were too haphazardly attached around the movie storyline. It scraps the reason Clank and Ratchet trust each other outside of a few hours seperated cutscenes which probably meshed better in the movie but don't here because they're six planets apart.
It's a movie tie-in game, and while it's decidedly Ratchet and Clank gameplay, the problem is obvious cut corners, linearity in some places and lost oppurtunities in others. Gaspar and Pokitaru seem like good ideas on expanding planets, but others seem like just rehashes because they were in the old game. Gotta have the Blargian Snagglebeast, gotta have Skid McMarx, but make his uncle the mayor of Novalis for... reasons. Cutscenes were either movie quality shots or just Fallout 4 level dialogue videos.
It was too short and too trimmed down, but it just didn't have the fun and cohesive story the Future games had added or the real exploration it promised. It's a shame because Sony is known to be fickle with franchises, but it's really not worth the money.

there's not been a good videogame movie (or at least, a critically avclaimed) videogame movie in history. they've all failed for one fundamental reason.
that reason is they're not interactive. what makes Hitman work, for example, is how it gives you the option of how to kill your target and pretty much free reign from thereon in. Taking away all the choice turns even the most well-made adaptation of that into a ninety minute let's-play with no commentary. basically the same thing goes for all the other videogame movies.

Presumably, Insomniac was paid a flat fee for this property kind of like what Marvel gets for FOX Marvels films or Authors get for adaptations, so regardless of it's performance they got their money. SONY has virtually nothing to do with the movie so it's success isn't important to their bottom line. And the movie has such a low full release that most people who hate it will forget about it and or not hold it against the games.

I get bringing in A-listers to your animated movie for star power. Mulan had Eddie Murphy, Aladdin had Robin Williams and Moana will have Dwayne Johnson
But they replaced voice acting god Kevin Michael Richardson as the baddie Drek with a phoning it in Paul Giammatti. Why? Paul's a solid actor but he has no real star power. No parent is going to drag their kid to this to see Paul fucking Giammati. And there's no way Paul's asking price was cheaper than Kevin's so what the fuck?
And don't even get me started on Bella Thrones bullshit as Cora. The only new cast members who seemed to give a damn were Rosario Dawson as Elaris and Dean Redman as Brax. The returning cast are all solid too but that was expected.

I was bullied a lot in elementary and middle school. I wasn't bullied in high school (thankfully), but the damage was done. Being one of like 5 white kids in a school on the wrong side of town (and being an autist to boot) will do that, I suppose. Before I was basically conditioned to be non-communicative and untrusting of others (before 3rd grade), I primarily played with the girls in my school. They were so much nicer than the boys, and so much more interesting to talk to. And our favorite game of all time was when we all played cops and robbers. They all policed around, and would attempt to put me in "jail" (a playset with a lot of bars). Then they'd brag about how smart and strong they were for catching me. Sometimes I'd even make a villainous escape.
Fast-forwarding over all that unpleasantness, and my absolute lack of experience talking to females, and you have a classic headcase. The pleasant memories of old, the fascination I've always had with chasing/capturing/escape, and the ~6 years of bullying I received during important formative years, resulting in a heady mixture of fetish of the highest order. Pretty much the only bits of it I can't stand are cock shaming, or anything related to genital torture. That stuff is no bueno.

Bleh, I can see why, it sounds really fucking boring just from the description alone. But that's the thing about love stories and the like, they are pretty subjective on where they aim: what I find romantic may do nothing for you, and the other way around. People like to follow trends about love even, so maybe Keit's one is not a popular one right now (I mean, literally everybody and your grandma are using multiverse/alternate universe plotlines nowadays, is not even fun anymore)
