A brand new season of Samurai Jack is being made for Adult Swim Toonami. A sneak peak will be shown at the Annecy Festival in June.
Adult Swim is funding two new 6 episode seasons of FLCL. Expected release is late 2017/early 2018.

Ok I can support this. Contrary to the doom and gloom, Toonami itself as it is now is not a risk for AS. It's actually their consistently highest rated piece of programming that isn't Fox.
Taking a risk would be putting on a lesser known action anime, rather than grabbing long running shonenshit and FotM titles. Things like Deadman Wonderland fit this demographic. Unfortunately, as soon as Demarco got a slight budget increase, these types of risk shows went away for good.

A lot of those types of shows rely on you to bring your experiences in and connect to the characters on that basis. As a guitar player, K-On! was a lot of fun because I got to watch Yui go through a lot of the things I went through starting out and all the things I haven't done yet with my music. Lucky Star does rely a lot on in-jokes, but I understood enough of them to follow it well enough. I think the problem isn't so much the genre as the narrow field of shows from the western perspective. Every discussion on moe seems to condense down to K-On and Lucky Star with rare exceptions. There are other shows out there that could work just fine.

Personally, I don't like it because it can't seem to decide what the hell it is. Every episode or two seems to be an entirely different genre (first episode felt like Blade Runner, then we suddenly had superheroes, then the show became a supernatural murder mystery, etc). The only reason it still has my attention is because I made a game out of counting every time they say "coil".

Sadly unlicensed after Geneon let the license expire. Apparently the only reason Geneon finished dubbing the first season was because the people working on it REALLY liked it, but the sales were abysmal (IIRC, the final DVD sold only 100 units total).
