That's tough to read. Didn't think it real 'till I found the source myself. It's a crime that CN considers it the fault of Craig and crew rather than what actually happened: Warner Bros completely fucked up the wide-release promotion of the film. The only place I remember seeing ads for this thing was on CN itself. Fuck WB.

It used to be outright company policy to cut cartoons off at 65 episodes. Stuff like Kim Possible getting renewed after hitting that cap was a HUGE deal at the time.

65 episodes perfectly fits a 13-week/3-month weekday syndication schedule.
It's a practice Disney did for years, with very few major cartoons (stuff like Aladdin and Ducktales) getting second/third seasons, but they stopped after fans of Kim Possible gave them so much shit for cancelling it.
Now their current trend is to give a show two seasons and then cut it off. It's something they do with this live-action sitcoms too.

>The decision, according to McCracken, was made by “the higher up bosses of bosses of bosses at Disney,” who didn’t offer any specific reasons for why they didn’t want a third season. McCracken pointed out that the decision to discontinue the show was unrelated to the season two ratings, because he had been told the show wouldn’t be renewed before the second season had even premiered.

Then the climate of CN changed during production and they demanded it be solely for kid audiences.
That's why CN wants to blame Craig for the failure, they think he was mishandling the movie production and the network had to save him by making the executive change.

No, it's because they made some clear plastic toys to put the PPG toys in. So they had to write it into the show.

The movie's edginess didn't feel forced. The PG was justified. If you want forced, look at the PG-rated Trransformers movie from the 80's. Besides, G-rated movies are rarer and tend to do worse than PG-rated movies.

Another big factor, IIRC, was that it came a year after the last new PPG episode and not all that long after 9/11. Seriously, the PPG movie has more destruction of buildings in it than most Roland Emmerich movies, and a lot of it's played for laughs.
>>
>>82184830
Imagine being so sensitive that you can't handle seeing a building get toppled over in a cartoon without getting triggered over muh terrorism
>>
>>82184947
That really was the atmosphere at the time. Pretty much everything that featured destruction of buildings was getting censored or canceled. Seriously, there was an episode of friggin' Friends that had to get reshot because there was a joke about a bomb at an airport. The climax of Lilo and Stitch had to get redrawn - the ship Stitch pilots was originally a stolen plane. Episodes of RID featuring buildings being destroyed were cut from syndication entirely. Even things like fires were heavily censored.

Basically, it was something that, for a lot of people, seemed too 'real' at that point to be included in fantasy. Months of hearing the death tolls being reported, raised airport security, all those kinds of things meant that watching a building get destroyed was now a big deal.

Say what you will about the war in Afghanistan/Iraq, the 9/11 terrorist attacks were definitely incredibly effective. To this day they still have the idiots in our nation cowering in fear. The Taliban lost, what, four people? And they sent the most powerful nation on the planet into the fetal position.
>>
>>82185867
Same, kinda. My parents actually watched an episode or two with me and they thought it was funny. Didn't have a problem there. Now there was no way I'd want to go out in public to watch the movie.

Sorry, Craig.
>>
>>82184947
It's not just a terrorism thing, it happens with natural disasters too. Lots of stuff in Japan gets cancelled/hiatus-ed/censored following large-scale destructive events.

Or think about what you could never dream of showing on television post-Columbine.

It's annoying when you're removed from it by time or space, but I guess try to imagine what it feels like to have gone through something like that. You don't want to keep seeing it in your media.

Episodes of the original Gundam were canceled on Toonami around that time. Suspiciously, they were mostly episodes featuring Indian character Lalah and the final episodes that featured a huge space battle.

She wasn't even against it, beyond, "Yes, it's a dumb shirt, but..." The other half of that statement being, "BUT REMEMBER, we landed on a freaking COMET!!" and just trying to minimize the shirt business as it rightly should've been.

By and large, she just wants people to get along, and she supports any effort people make to play nice. I guess you could say she believes that friendship is magic.

You posted a picture literally proving otherwise. That whole picture is spouting bullshit designed to try and sweep the fact that feminists basically ruined this guy's achievement under the rug while subtly implying that what they did WAS A GOOD THING.

Fucking goddamn.

No, fuck that.
1. They made the man fucking cry over a shirt
2. Regardless of the content of it, aren't these the fucking people getting naked and putting fucking period blood on canvases and calling it art over their right of expression? Well that shirt is his right to wear. If it offends you, big fucking deal, get over it. I have to get over the public breastfeeding and the whales in god damn middrift shirts, the latter of which is actually physically offensive to my body.

I seriously see no middle ground here. The people who made a big deal about the guys shirt are the most oppressive sort we have around.
>>
>>82187694
Did you? At no point does it mention that the shirt fiasco was any fault of theirs, instead saying that she's impressed that "he apologised", implying he's the one who fucked up.

Cartoons have taken such a huge step backwards

PPG used to have an over-the-top intentionally vicious violence to it, PCPPG doesn't seem to get that
>>
>>82187762
She...
- was mildly disappointed by the shirt
- was amused by the "women in science" shirt response
- says it was an innocent faux pas on his part
- commends him for apologizing on his own, despite that
- tries to overshadow it by reminding everyone that we landed on a comet, which is the more important thing

It sounds like she doesn't realize the extent to which he was bullied and pressured, and just commends him for doing it on his own.

That's fucking stupid, especially since the people who lived through 9/11 and Columbine are a handful of people and the people that had it worst are all dead. It's a terrible idea to enable this kind of thinking because it leads to shit like the TSA. People need to man up and face their bullshit and not cry that they're triggered just because the world doesn't stop moving because they witnessed something traumatic.

Newsflash: 9/11 and columbine weren't the only traumatic things to happen in American lives, and nobody really gives a shit about the other stuff. Certainly not murder or rape, which probably affects the most people.

The worst thing about this is that it made the attacks that much more successful. It incited terror, and it turned 9/11 into this big symbolic thing, which were the real goals. The towers fell because they were symbols. It was all about putting a thorn of fear in the minds of America, and damn did it work.

No, fuck her and fuck everybody that ruined this man's amazing achievement because of his choice of clothing. If a shirt with sexy drawings on it (made by a woman, no less) is enough to chase women out of science, then fuck them and good riddance.
A great, brilliant man and an even greater team of amazing scientists had what should have been their greatest moment ruined by fucking dipshit internet fucking loudmouth feminists that don't contribute a fraction to society of what Matt Taylor and the rest of his team have.

Matt Taylor didn't hurt anybody's feelings, he just did something that made insane, violent people react in an insane, violent way. That'd be like saying Charlie Hebdo or that Danish guy should apologize for pissing off Islamic extremists. Matt Taylor did absolutely nothing wrong and the people who shat on his and his team's achievement are fucking insane lunatic extremists who don't deserve anything but contempt.

He can badmouth his old projects all he wants because if CN was ever asked about it, their response would be "IT'S ALL CRAIGS FAULT WE'RE ALL ANGELS HERE"

PPG had that problem in general, when I was a kid there were no toys available for boys of the show, I remember asking my father for one of the dolls from the show and he at first refused to buy it because it was a "girls toy". To his credit he did end up getting me the toy when I said I wanted it anyway, the new show seems to play the "girl" show thing completely straight though.

Aside from a few obviously girl toys like the dress up PPGs, everything else was pretty much gender neutral. They even had collectible figures, collectibles for adults, and a playset for Mojo. Kid you didn't apply yourself.
