"society has been entrenched in superhero comics for years that no other alternative model can be conceived of"

what do you think of slavoj zizek's take on comics?
>>
>>82048743
>implying he read any
>>
>>82048743
I could listen to him talk all day. I wouldn't necessarily pay attention to what he said but hish achshent ish really quite hypnotic, like scho.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33kAMeHVzBA
>>
Objectively wrong.
>>
but... what about manga?
>>
idk i think the ideology might be too pure
>>
>>82048743
Go away /lit/.

Actually, stay. Please kick /tv/ out
>>
Slavoj Zizek writes a comic when?
>>
>>82049522
I'll say this for /lit/. While they may be at heart a bunch of shitposting pedophiles just like /tv/, at least they have the decency to be pretentious elitists about something worthwhile. It's a lot easier to handle someone calling your hobby plebby capeshit while he's fapping to Joyce or Nabokov than it is some memeing little shit who raids your board for content and makes threads about Nickleodeon sitcom actresses feet.
>>
>>82049701
I think everyone's at least a little jealous of how successful /lit/ has been at remaining pretentious. Even /mu/ hasn't managed to be at that level.
>>
>>82049580
I think it'd look like Jodorowsky
>>
>>82049732
/mu/ held on for a long time, it was great when it was still pretentious. The celebs and feels killed it.
>>
>>82048743
Hyperbole is a weak rhetorical device precisely because it gives a critic or fanatic the opportunity to quote out of context, undermining legitimate argument and polarizing debates into a set of false binary conditions.
>>
>>82049398
>>82049450
This. If there were just as many superhero comics in England, France, Japan, etc., he would have a point.
As it is, he's only right about the American scene, not the entire medium.
>>
>>82048743
i think Zizek is so massively overrated he could be a MCU movie.
>>
>>82050346
He is unironically a meme philosopher
>>
Sounds like a whole lot of bitching, and not a whole lot of doing.
>>
>>82048743
Zizek is a hack, pretty much only thrives on being the pseudo intelectuals meme philosopher flavor of the day
>>
stop being mean to zizek
>>
>>82048743
He's wrong. Thanks to Japan, we have all kinds of other weird shit. And the language barrier keeps a monoculture from crystallizing without huge marketing that falls apart after a year. We should all thank Japan for their weird shit every day, like they do us.

Oh. That's wrong too. Command and barter economies both occur naturally in the absence of an authority able to issue fiat currency. 3 days with no food, and it all burns down.

if we're still /lit/posting, what is /co/'s meme trilogy?
>>
>>82051645
All-Star Superman, ???, ???
>>
>>82051645
For cartoons:
Spongebob, Avatar, and some other thing
>>
>>82051715
Watchmen.

Possibly Sandman or Cerebus.
>>
>>82051791
Sandman is really good, though.
>>
>>82051791
We never discuss Watchmen unless in context of the movie though, so I don't think it counts.
>>
>>82051645
Better question, what's co's "start with the greeks"?
>>
>>82051942
classic cape comics like watchmen, tdkr, etc.
>>
>>82051969
But no one actually tells you to start there, it's not the same.
>>
>>82051942
Action Comics.
>>
>>82051885
I just realized I've never even seen a single Watchman thread here that didn't discuss it in the context of the movie or in meta-discussion of its relevance or place in comic book history and that makes me sad. And that's not even counting the endless Rorschach or Vedit did nothing wrong threads.
>>
>>82051984
>tells you to start there
Then our trilogy is "anything with a cover you like in your LCS".
>>

>>
>>82051942
Start with the Jews? Or comic strips.
>>
>>82051574
I like that we managed to shift gears right out of "stop shit-talking capes" into an actual rebuttal this smoothly.
>>
>>82052537
>mfw our "Start with the Greeks" is storytimes of pain
>>
>>82051942
"Pick up a comic and read it."
>>
I think it's as silly as those people saying that comics are standins for mythological stories and other such pseudointellectual crap.

Cape sells because it's established, easily marketable, builds brand recognition quickly, etc.
Do something with better marketability and it will sell better. Easy.

Zizek is smart but I seriously doubt he actually knows jack shit about comics. He's demonstrated a hilarious disconnect with all forms of pop culture.
>>
>>82048743
He looks like formerly fat Mark Hamill
>>
>>82051942
There is no "start with the greeks" because /co/ is entertainment, not literature. The very few works of /co/ "literature" are typically universal enough, or are so specifically tuned to the medium (Watchmen) that there is no clear starting ground and more of a general zeitgeist, which can only be understood by picking up comics and reading them.
Welcome to modernity and post-sincerity

/pol/ has brought down the quality of the entire site. Quarantine board my ass. It's INCREASED the amount of bullshit.

It should have been closed years ago. I suspect, though, that the FBI forces Hiro-lun, and Moot before him, to keep it open so they can use it to track white supremacist thinking on the internet.

I was there when /lit/ opened. Its stayed elitist for so long because it was *founded* on elitism.

And by founded on elitism, I mean I personally babysat 'serious literature' threads on a daily basis for the first two weeks of its existence.

Once you establish those roots, they grow deep.

The only other board that even comes close is /fa/.

You want to experience some *guaranteed scorn and contempt* just head over to /fa/ and post a picture of what you're wearing.
>>
>>82059111
/pol/ has brough down the quality of the entire internet.

Alfred Döblin was very influential on Joyce, that is why Joyce's first book was called Döbliners.

Would it have been better if I posted a pepe to express my keks at all these marxist cucks getting bootyblasted they can't make /lit/ into "/pol/ for commies because commies get btfo on /pol/"? It isn't my fault internet marxism can only exist when you don't have to defend your ideas at all.

/pol/ is the mainstream. There is nothing uniting the republican party anymore aside from hating muslims, gays, and mexicans. Over 60% of republicans can't even agree that a small government is a good idea anymore. There is nothing left of the republican party in the united states but unironic /pol/ people in real life.

>>
>>82059687
do you know how to show you're not mad

say "stay mad" like twenty times in a row. you're not mad because you just said "stay mad" twenty times in a row so you're not mad
>>
>>82060047
/pol/ has still become a pretty prominent white supremacist message board, though. I wouldn't be surprised if the FBI used it as a honeypot.
>>
>>82059111
Honestly, I don't think that the FBI pressure to keep /pol/ open, but I don't think they're complaining either. There's just no reason to close it.

The way Moot pissed them off near the end of his run though, that was gold, I miss that. That board should have stayed that way.
>>
>>82059548
Man I knew that was /r9k/, /pol/ would never idolize Eliot Rodger to the degree they did.

Fortunately it's basically gone away. I also knew that the robots were too pathetic to actually raid a board in any determined fashion.
>>

Moot fucked up when he took down /n/, that shit is what caused them to spread out in the other boards.
