Season 7's main strength is that the show pulled its head out of its ass and went back to making entertaining stories, so its for sure better.
Stakes had some flaws but was ultimately okay and the rest of the season has been pretty good.
I'd say it's been consistently on par with the higher tier episodes from season 5 and 6, so take that how you will.

The way they've handled the Finn sword is just altogether awkward, you'd figure the fact that Finn having another version of himself trapped in his sword would be something that he gives half a shit about but it's been like a year and a half since he got it and its been brought up like fucking twice. Just the incredibly inconsistent way Adventure Time tells its stories.

Finn sword was pissed off but for some reason Finn ignored it. Like, he usually talks to him and shit and is even with his personalities. This time it's like... he glanced over the fact it was him until he lost it.
Also does the sword just not talk around Jake? Seemed like they were stretching that with him just shaking his head and making a face instead of saying something, also Jake still doesn't know it can talk. Does he even see the Finn on the inside? Does he think Finn calls it Finn Sword because it's his? They seem to be pushing the fact over and over (crossover comes to mind as well) that Jake knows nothing about that sword.

Magic, some stuff in the show is science based (loosely at least) but only autists like PB would say there's a scientific explanation to how a millions of knives spawn from nowhere and rain down over the countryside.
