Are there any /co/ robots who look terrifying but are really the protagonists?
Not that I know of. There is Kat from GK, but she isn't a direct protagonist persay.

The Vision can be scary when he walks thru walls.
Robotman from Doom Patrol, especially during the Arnold Drake and Grant Morrison's phases.
The artists in those runs did a good job in making him look creepy.
