So there's a particular theater in Utah that might lose it's liquor license for screening Deadpool

>Salt Lake City's Fox 13 local newscast covered the story, noting that by state law it is illegal to show nudity or sex acts and serve alcohol in one spot
>>
>>81999469

Has anyone been to one of these theaters that serve drinks and food? What's it like, honestly? Cause it seems like one of those things that /sound/ like a good idea, until you actually do it.

Like chocolate body paint. Sounds like a great idea, until you get on the bed and then you have to clean your sheets and everyone's stickier than usual...

We have a Movie Tavern here now, and I've been to it twice (Specter, 10 Cloverfield Lane). Its ok. The food is decent, and the staff try to not obstruct the movie too much, but it is distracting. Its something I would do every once in a while, but not for a movie I was really interested it. Its funny to see after the movie how many people fall asleep in their seats.
>>
>>81999636

Sounds like it would be really good for blockbusters, but not for something like Hail Caesar or the Witch.
>>
>>81999529

It's different got movie taverns where I live

The tickets are cheaper, but the food is pricy

They have a bar and a seating area where you can wait before the movie starts

It's...okay. It doesn't really add alot to the experience - even in terms of comfort or convenience. The theater near me sells a pretty good variety of alcohol and has a kind of crazy concession stand where there's burgers, nachos, wings, tacos and even fucking microwaves in the lobby for some of the stuff. They pour the beer into a cup and everything is expensive. It's truly jusy "okay". You already know it's going to be expensive and the end result is just eh.

One semi-related thing that bothered me though is that when I went to see Star Wars, I bought a box of M&Ms. When I opened the box, there's just a bag of M&Ms in there. Why?

This picture makes so much more sense now.

Yeah, theater candies aren't what they used to be. Like, my friends and I would go to a grocery store or Wal-Mart prior to movies and grab one of their $1.50 movie candy boxes to sneak into theaters. My girlfriend always got peanut butter M&Ms and it was a whole box worth. Not long ago, we went out and she got a box to discover that the price is the same, but the box just has a regular sized-bag of M&Ms inside now. The regular bag of M&Ms is about $0.50 cheaper because it doesn't have a box.

>movie theater
>liquor license

Nigga you fucking what, explain this bullshit, Murrica.
>>
>>82000247
For a fairly high price, you can get slightly sloshed and watch 3D movies. What else is there to understand?
>>
>>81999469
Utah is also in the middle of classifying porn as an addictive health hazard.
>>
>>82000247
The chain theaters don't have it but smaller ones do. There's one near my house that has $5 tickets and real food like burgers and shit too that you can order while watching movies.

This law is really bizarre btw.

Gotta love the priorities of religious people. Climate change is already fucking us up, our education system is in the garbage, the way we vote is an absolute mess, and the federal legislature is a nightmare. But people are watching porn in the privacy of their homes, and trans people want to use the restroom?!

WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN

Can't you fatties close your mouth for two hours? Christ. There's already popcorn and candies in the theaters.

Not from Utah but here in Texas I basically live at Alamo Drafthouse

Place is pretty great.
Designed to eat/drink while watching, so tons of legroom.
Slight annoying waiting for waiter to pickup your order card or being distracted for 2 seconds for a runner to crawl by and give you your order.
Meals and stuff can be a bit overpriced ($15 for burgers and fries, $7.50 for like 6 mozzarella sticks)
But other stuff they end up selling for cheap cause they know they aren't relying on it to bring in the big bucks($7 for bottomless popcorn, $4.50 for bottomless soda/coffee/tea, water is simply free)
But the pros out way the cons by a mile, and don't consider going to other theaters

I've always wanted to go to Alamo drafthouse

But it's too far for me to even bother driving I think its about a 40min drive which is hard to justify for a movie

For fifteen dollars, that better be a burger worthy of Jules Winnfield.
>>
>>81999529

went to one in Reno, don't even remember what movie I saw. it was nice to sit in a recliner, but the higher quality eating and drinking aspect of it kinds pulls you out of the experience, I'm sure some people love it, I personally wouldn't go for it again. I'd rather just watch a movie.

Deadpool the first movie with sex they served booze during? did the place just open

Here in Mexico we got some special theaters called VIP which are more expensive but sell drinks and food and you got a special treatment and such.
>>
>>82000721
>>82000810
Utah is Mormon central so I am not surprised.
>>
>>82001564
>>82001663
As a San Antonian, I can confirm that the Alamo Drafthouse outweighs every other option in this city, and every theatre I've visited anywhere else.

It's pretty much the best atmosphere I've gotten in any cinema. They regularly show old grindhouse flicks, horror movies, cult classics, quote-alongs, anime, etc. And the one I usually go to is connected to a brick-and-mortar comic shop, so you can browse comics until the movie starts.
>>
>>81999529
It's good. Nothing better than sitting in a big comfy bucket seat while eating prime rib and drinking whiskey as the war rig speeds across the wasteland on a screen larger than a billboard.

>Wearing chocolate body paint in bed
That's your dumb ass fault.
>>
>>82006375
Honestly sounds awful, not trying to be contrarian but I can just imagine myself constantly looking at my food trying not to make a mess (esp. with ribs) while also trying to pay attention to the movie. Would rather just do the usual popcorn fare in a silent venue.

Dinner with friends and just talking over dinner in a nice restaurant sounds better to me anyway.

Gateway Film Center in Columbus is pretty good too. They have all sorts of film events and indie releases and shit, plus 6 bucks for a ticket and 6 dollars for a hot dog and a beer isn't a bad deal imo.
>>
>>82001030
Popcorn and candy are not food
>>
>>81999529
It's not as fun as it sounds.

Which isn't to say it's bad, but the clink of forks and plates is definitely distracting at times
>>
>>82006715
It's Utah. Most likely yes.

As all adult men are ordained in the LDS church.

The various majority of Utah is comprised of those of the Jesus Christ Church Of Latter-Day Saints/Mormons and an even larger majority doesn't even believe in the religion at all

I used to be Mormon myself and while the church did play a large roll in my life and shaped who I am morally a person, I'm no longer that socially awkward 13 year old anymore

>Me and buddy are going to watch some force awakens
>need to kill time so we stop off at park avenue
>hit up peterbrook choclatier
>so fucking good with the chocolate
>buy bags of chocolate covered stuff from the sold by the pound bins where they have a variety of goodies to mix and match
>figure fuck it well sneak them in and enjoy some good stuff instead of crap concession stand snacks
>sit there in the theater consuming just under 20 dollars worth of gourmet chocolate snacks
>as the credits roll i realized that i filled half the bag with chocolate covered espresso beans
>id been sitting in the dark eating damn near a pound of espresso beans
longest ive ever been in a movie theater bathroom but worth it cos that was sum good fucking chocolate.

Oh, your poor asshole.

I have like 4 hours total of free time every day outside of work; it's already hard to fit 3 meals into that amount of time even if I don't see a movie
>>
>>82001030
But anon, chocolate-covered pretzels filled with cheese! They taste so good!
>>
>>82008913

To say nothing of the caffeine.
>>
>>82009131

...mixing chocolate with cheese? What the hell is wrong with you?
>>
>>81999529
My biggest issue is the timing is wonky. By the time your order is filled the movie is half over.
>>

This sort of snark seems less justified considering what passes for constructive cultural criticism outside of the flyover states. Different key, same song and dance.
>>
>>82009173
Ive never tried it other than with cream cheese or marscapone (canoles and cheesecake) but i dunno....i could maybe see it working possibly.

I mean hell i thought bacon and chocolate made no sense until for the fuck of it i made chocolate covered crispy bacon. And that shit was amazing. Sweet, savory, salty, smokey. It just worked.
>>
>>81999529
Chain where I live wants to add a full fucking bar to their theaters in town. Considering we already have way way to many bars in town and the theater now is just about the only place in town where you don't have to deal with obnoxious drunks I'm absolutely dreading it.
>>
>>82010313

It's like you people don't want to live to see sixty.
>>
So, you have to keep your vices separate in Utah? Who knew?
>>
>>82001030
no it's fucking America were every brain dead moron needs to start drinking non-fucking-stop at 10 and not stop until they are dead. No one can drink in moderation here everyone is either drink until you puke/pass out or a teetotaler who doesn't drink at all
>>
>>82010342
It's called moderation.
I could have gotten a package of the thick sliced bacon...but i didnt i got regular. See, its moderation.

Although i think its the same weight in bacon just more slices but whatever.

>>82010415
>>82001030

If people in other countries can eat a full meal of rabbit covered in chocolate, or fry a cow's head or ass in lard every once in a while, why can't 'Murricans have a little chocolate-covered bacon?
