Power Rangers has traditionally never really "killed" anyone's careers, I think it's just that generally, nobody on PR has been a good enough actor to make it on anything but other kidvid shows (JYB's voice acting doesn't count). PR didn't get good actors until they started filming in New Zealand, because there's less competition for talent there, and because the show was actually banned from airing in NZ so none of the Kiwi actors had any preconceptions about the show's quality. And regular TV people rarely transition to movies these days, let alone NZ TV people.

Also, based on the little information we have so far, it looks like it'll be comparable to the new MMPR comic book (including the tone of Steve Orlando's back-up stories with Bulk and Skull).
My only fear is that Dean Israelite and some of the screenwriters (including Landis) have been more interested in "edginess" throughout their careers. Of course, it's also understood (at least in Landis's part) that their edginess is something of a defense mechanism in a world/industry that can't handle cheesiness very well. So, this movie might actually handle things well.
Then again, what do I know? We need a trailer before we can say anything substantial.

You know I'd be OK with that. The only older Super Sentai I've seen all the way through are Dairanger and Kakuranger, and Kakuranger had a female leader (white.) It was done really well too. There was even an episode where her mentor faked the death of all her comrades so she would feel the gravity of being a leader. And it was "girl power" without being hamfisted or shitty at all. Basically the moral was that despite the fact she is weaker, she has to deal with more responsibility.
