Why can't Canadians produce any good cartoons series?
>>
Is Reboot a cartoon?
>>
>>81986346
Isn't that show French?
>>
They can make good individual characters, but can't do shit with them.

It's sad really, watching interesting characters in a dead end series.
>>
>>81986346
Because the funding really isn't there anymore. Canadian studios have become the new Korea that American networks farm out their second-rate shows to on the cheap, because the near-complete death of the domestic market has left said studios desperate for enough money to cover their own overhead.
>>
Ed,Edd,n Eddy?
>>
mom was such a milf
i cant remember a time i didn't ejaculate in front of the tv back in high school whenever she briefs them the mission
>>
Supposedly has something to do with cartoons there being funded by the government which comes with a bunch of restrictions and meddling which turn everything into bland soulless crap.
>>
>>81986489
French/French Canadian show
>>
>>81986582
Every channel that broadcasts in Canada has to dedicate some percentage of their airtime to "uniquely Canadian" content. Additionally, if a content creator meets certain requirements they can get a grant from the government to make their next piece of media.

In theory, this is to make sure American companies do not completely dominate weaker Canadian companies within the border. In practice, American companies make a bunch of throwaway junk or outsource to Canadian companies to legally be allowed to operate here, and mediocre Torontoian hipsters take advantage of the government grants because anyone with legitimate talent moves to the States ASAP.
>>
>>81986793
What this guy said plus the fact that Canadian networks spend as little as possible on local content in order to have more money to buy american made stuff.
>>
>>81986582
>>81986793
>>81988476

to be uniquely Canadian, I heard they're not allowed to outsource the animation either like American studios do. So that's why they're stuck doing it as cheaply in easily as possible using cutout animation through Flash and Toonboom.
>>
I actually unironically LIKED Johnny Test, so fuck you!
>>
>>81986346
I loved that show...I mean, I haven't seen it in years, maybe it doesn't hold up as well as it does in my mind.

Also holy shit was she always that sexy?
>>
>>81988671
if that's the case thats a huge reason
>>
>>81986436
Reboot was fucking excellent. There are some episodes that don't hold up, but for the most part, perfection.

As others have said, Canadian animation is largely an artifice beholden to public financing, in effect mirroring the protectionist media industry practices of European countries like France and Germany.

Nevertheless, Tina is best girl.
>>
>>81986612
Wait, was this show originally a french show that they dub over in English then? I used to watch Fred's Head in French, but I never thought about this one.

Also Fred's Head is decent, as well as (at least partially) produced in my home province.

Funny they made them siblings and left that aspect in.

The Total Drama series and 6teen are also canadian shows that /co/ busts a nut over. Once saw TDI in the states a few years ago and they censored the Canadian flag of an Mcs shirt

I always thought there were levels to it. Like when ytv liked anime it was almost universally stuff dubbed by the ocean group so they could get a bit of credit for Canadians doing the voices.
They even dug up alternate dubs for Dragonball, DBZ and GT done by ocean/blue water instead of the funimation dub.

Most of our good stuff we do in conjunction with somebody else like cybersix, beast wars, clone high, tintin, redwall, ect. The legend of White Fang, and The Racoons are maybe the two best solely Canadian produced cartoons. Most stuff made here is terrible Kevin Spencer tier.

What exactly does "uniquely Canadian" mean?

Do Canadian cartoons require a certain amount of maple leaves, overt politeness, and HON HON HON? Sounds to me like the government is officially demanding the reinforcement of stereotypes.
>>
>>81995727
As in nothing outsourced or developed in conjunction with any studio outside Canada.
>>

>>81993341

>>
>>81986346

They used the entirety of their Devil contract on Ed, Edd n Eddy.
>>
>>81996402
No, he is right. Pretty much all modern Flash-animated shows since 2005 were just fodder for the time schedule. Bad animation, cut-n-past characters, bad voice acting, bad storytelling and most importantly they killed off traditional animation for Canada.
>>
>>81995727
Just the fact that it's produced and made in Canada.

Basically to prevent American shows to dominate the airwvaes.

In theory it's a nice sentiment since you want there to be a difference in show content instead of just copying America's selection wholesale. Also it's most likely there to prevent American companies from throwing money at Canadian stations to push out /real/ Canadian shows off the air.

But all we get are 90% shit Flash animations and Canadian variants of American shows (e.g. Top Chef Canada). It's not working as well as people would hope.
>>
>>81996959
Then why doesn't the industry actually experiment with better quality instead of making shitty ripoffs or really bad content?
>>
>>81997058

Because the execs in charge of most companies don't care as long as there are kids watching it. And kids will watch anything.

There's a sad reason Johnny Test is still around.
>>
>>81997058
No money, no talent.

The other anons already explained it. The competent ones go to the US, and only the bottom of the barrel is left behind to eat up whatever pitiful dregs the Film Board of Canada gives out in grants.

Also apparently people watch and like the garbage anyway. Look at Johnny Test, TDI, Martin Mystery, and Totally Spies.
>>
>>81996866
>EEnE is good
>>81996959
>All flash is bad

Yep. The nostalgia is definitely strong with this one.
>>
>>81997108

>>
>>81997058
Even though Canada has a few decent schools almost all the graduates move to the states if they possibly can. The people left behind either couldn't make it there or didn't try. If the only reason they didn't leave is because they lacked the resources, they would be stuck doing the airtime-filling shows or outsourced work.
>>
>>81992928
Wait Ben 10 was a comic? And Ben and Gwen fucked in it?
>>
>>81997137
>The nostalgia is definitely strong with this one.
More like you a retarded millenial who's never known better.
>>
>>81997164
I think he's referring to a sister getting jealous of girls around her brother and doing her best to cockblock.
>>
>>81997122
Martin Mystery and Totally Spies were animated in France dipshit
>>
>>81997137

I'm not the one arguing against Flash, though I think the ease of use and the laziness it allows are detrimental.

But Ed, Edd n Eddy is pretty much objectively good, even if it's not your cup of tea. I don't think anyone could make an actual strong argument against that.
>>
>>81997209
They're still garbage. That was my point.
>>
>>81997200
Oh.

Do sisters actually do this? I don't have one so I wouldn't know.
>>
>>81997265
I don't know. But the first guy was saying he didn't understand why Diana would do it in the cartoon when they were supposed to be "siblings".
>>
>>81997212
And yet no one ever talks about Toonboom Harmony's great capabilities of using tweening-animation.
>>
>>81997245
They're actually good shows man. I dunno what you're talking about.
>>
>>81997122
Also, do you know how fucking life-risking and difficult it is to actually immigrate to the US from Canada?
>>
>>81997548
It's worse the other way around.

Thanks to the refugee thing, people who try to get into Canada via shortcuts like citizenship via marriage are expected to wait 3-5+ years for their application to go through because the government is backlogged with refugee applications.
>>
Does Cybersix count? It's my favorite cartoon and I'm pretty sure it's Canadian.

That might be true but back in the dayYTV sure didn't.

The third season of Reboot was on YTV, the first two were on ABC but ABC canceled them. The censors were so strict that they thought a kiss between Dot and Enzo on the cheek was incestuous. They also had to give Dot a monoboob. They werne't allowed to use guns either.

That's why the third season had Hex in a kinky BDSM relationship with her brother and AndrAIa and Enzo had giant titties and guns respectively.

I have a lot of strong nostalgia for this animated short. I remember a lot of good shorts aired between TV shows but this is the one I remember the most.

I was reading about the author of the original book and it's all pretty much about having limited time due to cancer, and her Grandmother who took care of her who passed away. Maybe I'm the only one who gets so emotional about it due to nostalgia but still have a watch.

The only way you would want to live in Canada or really any country is if your income comes from USA and you get the benefits of being a Canadian citizen.

Canadian health care system is amazing, but if our economy continues to inflate and our GDP continues to plummet then it's not going to last another PM. If you make Canadian money and try to live in Canada you will be miserable.
>>

Like what, recession and exorbitant real estate?

Literally the only thing Canada has is its Socialist Healthcare which non citizens aren't eligible for.

Canada is a sinking ship, and its citizenship are blind because they've created this culture of smugness that's secured them, this idea that no matter how bad things get, they'll always be better than the States.

Because the Canadian government is retarded and thought making it a mandate that Canadian television have a certain amount of Canadian-made shows on at a time was a good idea. Instead, they just started making shows that could go on indefinitely with the least amount of effort needed like Johnny Test in order to fill that quota.
