This actually makes a crap load of sense. Chemo actually poisons cells so when they try to reproduce they just die. Cancer cells reproduce a LOT faster so the chemo kills off more cancer cells than normal cells before wearing off. If the power of Thor is undoing the poison in her body then the cancer would be free to grow at a regular pace again.

Some would say I killed Jane Foster, aka Thor. Thor would definitely tell you I killed her. I look at it from a different standpoint. I look at it from the standpoint that Mjolnir did not kill Thor. Odinson certainly did not kill Thor. Nor did Cancer kill Thor. I truly believe that Thor killed Thor. And she can look in the mirror and know that.
I will certainly take responsibility for any decision I ever made, I never had a problem doing that. Not all of my decisions are accurate, they’re not. But when I make a bad decision, I’m not above saying that I’m sorry and trying to do the best about it that I can. Hopefully the batting average is pretty good, I make more good decisions than I do bad decisions. And as far as killing Thor is concerned, there’s a time honoured tradition in the superhero business, that when someone is leaving that they show the right amount of respect to the legacies that made them who they are - unless, of course, it's 2016, when you're expected to shit all over those legacies and mock them constantly in an attempt to seem more savvy and daring than you really are. I mean you show the proper respect to the people that helped you become who you are today. It was a semi-respected tradition AT THE TIME, and Thor didn’t want to honour that tradition.
That’s something I would have never ever expected from Thor, because up until she picked up the hammer she was known somewhat as a formerly relevant side character in this series.
