Somebody theorized this a few weeks back. Figured Joker has died nearly all those times it seemed like he was dead for sure, the city just makes a new joker every time. S'why he remembers so many different origins. I mean, it's not the worst idea, but I feel it doesn't fit with the whole "One bad day/multiple choice past" motif they've done for so long. Gotham is a cursed hellhole and The Joker works better as a symbol of the evil that could turn anyone (a petty thief, a failed comedian or or an average joe) into a monster.
Adding onto Joker being the city, what if the man who fell into the chemical vat actually did die, and his body was melted down being washed out into Gotham's reservoirs touching every part of the city, and the person who emerged from the accident calling himself the Joker is the product of this? Explains why he seemingly "dies" all the time and comes back.
It also explains why his DNA cant be traced back to an origin or any connecting family member, and why they can never get finger prints. He's no longer human, he's just Ace Chemicals.

What's the point of giving him an origin now? The character is over 75 years old. What backstory could add more to the character than the stories that have made the Joker what he is any better? The Joker has never had a secret identity and has never needed one. He exemplifies the chaotic and evil nature of Gotham that Batman struggles against. Making him a man now seems pointless.

But you can pretty much bet on it being revealed that the chair told Batman his name is either "The Joker" because he's always been Joker at his core and that's his only identity, regardless of what his parents might have named him. Or something equally as vague, instead of giving us a solid name.

I honestly wish the New 52 or Rebirth began with Arkham City's ending. The original Joker was around for a few years, made the Bat Family's lives hell, then fucking died. Forever.
That leaves plenty of room for new writers to make a slew of copycats or revamp the concept however they want. Have an actually funny one kill all the would-be edgelords and work with Bruce on occasion. Maybe work a slew of temporary 'hosts' into the setting, hinting at the whole Eldritch Intelligence poisoning Gotham's soul idea.
Either way, Bruce always wonders if he should have just killed the tumor early, before its cancer spread.
