Apparently, Disney's going to take a second shot at adapting The Chronicles of Prydain.

It was only a matter of time before Disney's quest to do live-action remakes of all of their animated films got to The Black Cauldron. I just didn't expect it this soon.
The Black Cauldron is legitimately a shitty movie. The Chronicles of Prydain is an amazing book series. I'm perfectly fine with Disney taking another crack at adapting the books, since it means this time it might not suck.

I dunno. Prydain has more in common with the Hobbit than LotR; both are specifically focused on the growth of a single character; in the former's case it's specifically about Taran growing up and becoming an adult. Noble *worth* over Noble *birth* and You are who you choose to be sort of lessons inherent. LotR has its own hero's journey (literally) but the focuses are much different.
The Black Cauldron, as a movie, has nearly the opposite message of the Prydain Chronicles and that version's Taran sure did learn a valuable lesson about trying to be something he's not. Blah blah blah. Even if the film can arguably stand on its own merits, knowing where it came from really hurts itself.
An actual adaptation of Alexander's work, including giving Eilwony even more due, would be awesome.
