I'm incredibly interested in the idea of Kaiju being a common occurrence that just co-exists with mankind and are trained by humans to fight each other similarly to Pokemon only potentially more adult oriented.

It's the classic case of Bigger = Sleepy. critters tend to wake up every thousand plus years, go on a bit of a rampage, then either get bored and go back to sleep, or get put down, and go back to sleep. It might be 300 years between active monsters. so one day it's fin fang foom, and then he curls up in a ball somewhere for a nap and it's not until 600 years later that Creature X decides it's his time to rule.
It wasn't until we started the atomic age that these things started waking up at, roughly, the same time. Right now most of the big monsters in the Marvel U are either in hiding (have you SEEN what the sentry can do? I'm not going within a million miles of that!) or in self-preservational slumber (I'm just gonna sleep in for another eon, see if anything better happens once that epoch is passed.)
