That's a real far cry from when there were entire episodes based around them hanging out for the entire thing and having lots of interaction dude, and makes me think they could have just forgotten how to do it.
Them putting in small scenes like that one every once in a while may be them trying to hide this fact by being like "But see, Finn and Marceline still hang out! Yeah we basically never show it, but it still happens guys" or something like that. Bit of a conspiracy theory but possible based on the show.
