Which is the worse parent /co/?
>>
>>81881852
Archers mom
>>
Mallory, no question.
>>
Jonas at least believed he was in the right, I think Mallory actively tries to be a horrible person.
>>
>>81881864
By virtue of the fact that she's still around to screw up Sterling's life.
>>
Jonas, without question.

Malory is really, comically shitty, but at the end of the day she is always there for Sterling, except when she's not.

Rusty is an after thought for Jonas.
>>
>>81882106
^
Jonas is a historically bad parent.
I have friends who's mothers are basically simulacra Mallory.
>>
Mallory never forced Archer to kill a guy when he was 10. She did pay him to kill people but that was well after the fact.

She was at worst neglectful to an extreme degree but never outright abusive
>>
>>81882609
Nah, Mallory could get pretty abusive. It just always had an undercurrent that she didn't really understand that this was the stuff that would wind up really screwing up Archer in a few years. She also had enough kindness to give him a fairly stable childhood - she didn't bring him on missions, she paid for his schooling despite his multiple failures at it, and she at times spoiled him rotten. Jonas pulled his son into horribly traumatizing combat scenarios, then in downtime, relegated his son's upbringing to learning beds.
>>
>>81882609
She actively bullied young Sterling on several occasions.
If anything I'd say Jonas was inconsiderate/neglectful, however his neglect is more horrific given the lifestyle. Mallory's abuse was mundane and emotional.
and to be fair Jonas didn't force Rusty to kill a guy, Colorado Gentleman did while Jonas was held at gunpoint. only intentionally shitty thing I can think of Jonas doing to rusty is guiltily him for feeling uncomfortable with adventuring and not having any peers. everything else seems to be putting him in harms way by proximity
>>
>>81882106
>Malory is really, comically shitty, but at the end of the day she is always there for Sterling, except when she's not.
She only cares about him as an extension of herself, though because she's a textbook narcissist. That's arguably worse than being ignored because a narcissistic parent that "cares" about you will be manipulative instead of just leaving you alone.
>>
>>81882748
That's a good point, but ultimately, I'd say Mallory is the better parent, if only because she actually tries to be a parent and take care of Sterling, even if she's a bit of a failure at it and kind of a shitty person. Jonas ignored his son right to the end.
>>
>>81882736
>>81882748

Mallory never shot Archer in the dick with a shrink ray
>>
>>81882748
>Colorado

I think Jonas definitely thought he was making a man out of his son, when in reality he was about as tone-deaf to his parental duties as you could get.

He's definitely more neglectful than actively abusive.

>>81882787
I'm not sure who is more egocenric, Jonas or Mallory. Mallory is more self-aware and nagging, but Jonas is completely oblivious to how up his own ass he can be.
>>
Malory put Archer's life at risk in a less direct way. And in the end Woodhouse was there for him, so she didn't leave him completely alone.
Jonas put Rusty in danger on purpose on a daily basis.
>>
>>81882787
but Jonas is the same way though. he wanted to make Rusty a little him and didn't even consider his methods could fuck him up
>>
Goddammit are we ever going to get a Archer/Venture Bros. crossover?
>>
>>81882842
Woodhouse is a big point in Mallory's favor. Though he's not perfect himself, compared to just about all of Dr. Venture's peers (bar maybe Kano), he's a more than passable guardian.
>>
>>81882809
She sent him back to prep school after nearly getting murdered.
>>81882823
if wee baby Seamus is any indicator, Mallory. There's no proof that Jonas tried to brainwash baby Rusty into utter dependency and mistrust of any and everything but her.
>>
>>81882917
>Action Man and Col Gentleman maliciously bully Rusty
>grows up to be on decent terms with them

>Woodhouse basically raises Sterling
>Refuses to even treat him as a human unless he's dying
Did we learn what happened to Woodhouse? I know his va died but what of the character?
>>
Jonas is way worse.

Jonas not only physically fucked his son up, but mentally as well by being Rusty's psycholigst, and then telling Rusty he should love his dad for everything he did for him, not ot mention allowing the old Team Venture to fuck with Rusty.

Action Man with the empty gun to the head, the shrink ray incident.

What about the 30 orphans Jonas left down below the compound drugged off their minds on mood enhancing drugs?
>>
>>81882871
I could see that working out, both take place in a weird ambiguous retro timeline

Not to mention tricking Rusty into sacrificing himself for his pet dog by making him throw himself on a grenade and then mocking him for it
>>
>>81883091
I could see it being just as simple as Archer being that douchebag in the background who always drops a demeaning one-liner when Shoreleave and Brock go out on mission.

Shoreleave and Ray forced into "Gay Club" for "diversity and what hooliganiry you get up to" according to Hunter)
>>

They said he'd still be around but they probably won't have him appear very much.

Oh. That's why he hasn't shown up any.
>>
>>81881852
Jonas, because Mallory at least took a personal interest in ruining Archer's life. She treated him like her son, not a teenage frat. She put him in a boarding school and forgot about him, as opposed to letting him get kidnapped and forgetting about him for a week. She hired a competent drug addict to be his bodyguard, not an unstable supersoldier junkie.

How would things have turned out if Rusty and Sterling were step-brothers?
>>
>>81881852
Jonas.

Mallory may have abused Archer, but she never went so far as to let her buddies take turns beating the shit out of him physically and emotionally.
>>
The real lesson is that the two of them should get married and bring Rusty and Archer together.

Even though Jonas is, you know, dead.
>>
Definitely Jonas.
>>
>>81882013
I think Sterling has surpassed his mother's screw-ups. By now, really he's the one doing the screw-ups and she's often the one (or one of them) at the receiving end of them. It's like poetry.
>>
>>81884632
Like the movie Twins and every other comedy with the same premise, basically.
>>
>>81882809
Colonel Gentleman and the Action Man were behind that particular prank, Jonas had just filled the party with supermodels and prostitutes.
>>
>>81882993
we're talking about them as parents, Jonas abandoning the orphans in the compound has nothing to do with his treatment of Rusty. It isn't a point in his favor or anything, but it's immaterial to the subject at hand.
>>
>>81885491
Honestly, Sterling is a way better person than he has any right to be, given how he was raised.

Which isn't saying that he isn't an asshole because he's a fucking colossal asshole, but he's still able to often show a great deal of empathy and personal sacrifice to those he cares about between his bouts of narcissism.
>>
Jonas but inly because his world allowed him to be even more exaggeratedly abusive. On a level playing field Malory is worse
>>
Everything Mallory did resulted in one of the best spies in the world.
Everything Jonas did resulted in one of the worst super scientist in the world.
>>
>>81887047
Well, Archer is the best spy in the business if your goal is to kill a guy without caring much for the accidental collateral damage.
>>
>>81887047
Rusty's actually a great superscientist when he makes things that kill people. He's just shit at everything else the job entails.
>>
>>81887704
What do you mean by that?

How exactly are you supposed to kill people with, let's say, the oo-ray for example?
>>
>>81887321
Say what you will but he does get the job done. As far as field missions you can't really get any better.
>>
>>81887047
Rusty was able to make a few neato things. Guardo was fairly effective with the only real flaw was not having the Ventures programmed in yet and getting Malcom's chlamydia. He made the Walking Eye, which he later fine tuned from barely working to integrating Helper and getting the laser cannon going, as seen when 21 attacks the compound while on "strike." He was also able to bind the power of a human soul to creature the bliss chamber. Without him, the clone research would never have been finished and Hank and Dean would have been long dead. He also brought Venturestein back to life.

He's pretty damn good with robotics and resurrecting the dead.
>>
>>81887988
Fair enough. I'd say at least half his failures are due to the other people around him.
>>
>>81887968
Rusty, melting people KILLS them.
>>
It's a question of what's worse? Purposely being a shitty parent, or not giving a single shit about your kid to the point you forget he's there next to you sometimes.
>>
>>81888087
Only doing one when you forget to do the other.
>>
>>81888056
Usually he only fucks up a mission if there's misinformation or he didn't look at the briefing at all. He always ends up arguing if there are other people on the mission but when he's alone he's really competent.
>>
>>81888183
>or he didn't look at the briefing at all
That's every mission
>>
>>81888183
>he didn't look at the briefing at all
I see what you did there.
>>
>>81882982
>>Action Man and Col Gentleman maliciously bully Rusty
>>grows up to be on decent terms with them
Oh yeah because Doc has nothing but positive things to say about both of them.

The only reason Doc doesn't shittalk them more is because a) they have almost zero interaction and b) Rusty is a fucking narcissist.
>>
>>81882609
>but never outright abusive

bicycle

car
>>
>>81888065
Not... Not necessarily.
>>
Am I the only one who finds Mallory kind of hot?
>>
>>81889336
Yes. Pam is better, anyway.
>>
>>81881852
Jonas hired a bodyguard that would wake Rusty up at night with a gun to his face and pull the trigger then say "Not today Rusty, not today." He made him kill people as a child. He was kidnapped countless times. Jonas is worse.
>>
>>81889404
>Pam is better, anyway.
Best at sex + those savage maternal instincts. Pam is top tier waifu material.
>>
>>81881852
Mallory is probably the biggest cunt in /co/ history.
>>
>>81885491

Archer doesn't really screw up, he just succeeds badly.
>>
>>81881852
Mallory shows concern for archer's well being remember when she found out the junkyard incident was real and not a voice mail prank?

jonas let rusty be kidnapped for a couple of months and then decided to rescue him as revealed in spanakopita.

jonas is a far far worse parent.
>>
>>81882982
>Action Man and Col Gentleman maliciously bully Rusty
>grows up to be on decent terms with them

More like he never goes out of his way to interact with them. The last episode of season six is the only time I think he's actually held a conversation with the two of them in the modern setting of the series. Before that he just seemed to have a quiet contempt for them.
>>
>>81888034
Its honestly a case of the world outgrowing super science. We find out in season six that JJ is successful because he basically became their world's Steve Jobs, not because he did the same kind of stuff he dad did. Rusty only ever learned the overblown mad scientist crap from Jonas, at least that's what it seems like to me.
>>
>>81881852

Yo Mama.
>>
>>81893673
Eh. JJ had the iPad shit for the plebs and then he'd build the Ultra Deluxe shit for the elites. Like Gargantua II while having laboratories and R&D departments was also a Hotel and Casino for the worlds Space Ship having wealthy class.
>>
>>81893673
I think the other thing is that Rusty is good at creating a proof-of-concept, but he sucks at actually turning it into something that can make money. Even when Rusty does do well, his inventions tend to come out unreliable and flawed.

Mallory is a creation of the Cold War Spy ring.

Jonas created about 1/2 the problems in the Venture Bros universe.
