Sorry, let me correct myself: Johnsfags. A lot of people here have only been exposed to Geoff Johns' GL and don't bother to read much else of it. On top of that there was a rough patch lasting around a year recently where Kyle and Carol were dating which also rustled people's Jimmies. Rather than blame it on a writer making a bad decision (the rest of the run wasn't that bad) they blamed Kyle himself.

That was all pretty tame and standard power creep until the New 52 where it felt like they started trying to over compensate and you get the retcon that he was specifically chosen by some prophecy instead of being randomly picked, then you get the White Lantern training arc where he's super special and unique because nobody else has ever felt two emotions before, then there's the stupid reservoir thing where Kyle is ultra special and nobody else has ever gone through the source wall before ever, then Carol starts literally sucking his dick for no reason

The problem with Kyle is that his entire life is all about getting infinite power and then losing it before he can really do anything.
He was the super-godlike Ion after the thing with the Starheart, so he powered himself down. Then he became Ion AGAIN, after he realized Ion was a green whale.
So Sinestro kicks his ass, and he ends up as Parallax. (Which was actually pretty cool, because Parallax has that very 90's Venom aesthetic.) After THAT, Kyle becomes the White Lantern the hard way. In EVERY clash, he always gets punked before he can do anything with it. Even the White Lantern basically did nothing against the First Lantern. He just kind of got his shit slapped in before Hal showed up to save the day.

It's more of a meme than anything. He's had this happen twice. First time as Ion when he willingly gave it up because he didn't want to pull a Parallax and decided instead to restart the corps and the second time as Ion when Sinestro made him his bitch and ripped that shit out of him. People like to joke about him gaining god like power all the time but it's barely happened.
