Nestor Redondo is legit one of the best artists in the entire history of the medium and no one's even heard of him.
>>81841178
I know Cary Nord is pretty well regarded, but he really should be as popular as anyone in comics.
Wayne England did some absolutely fantastic art for the WH40k rulebooks back in the day, but he passed away two months ago. RIP.

I like Redondo a lot. I was pissed off that whenever DC reprinted classic Swamp Thing they always stopped once Wrightson left. It's like yo there's another great artist right after him.
Leonard Starr was every bit the artist Raymond was IMO. Maybe if he didn't draw girl comics he'd have gotten the same kind of recognition.

Micheal Turner, I miss him. It's not fair someone so talented died so young.
>>81843529
Gimme recommended readings with Nord on art pls.
>>81845764
I know he gets shit on a lot but I still can't call the most popular artist of his time underrated.
Ernie Chan get's overshadowed by Barry Windsor-Smith and John Buscema as a great Conan artist from the same era
>>81845764
He is not by any definition, underrated.
He is a superstar comic artist, worked on high profile comics like Witchblade, Justice League etc. Those hardly unknown properties.

EC-707 and DJgames

Conan v1 (Dark Horse)
Literally some of the most utterly beautiful art ever made for comics.
>>81845764
I loved his art too, don't understand why he always got so much hate.
Richard Case
I don't think I've ever seen Matt Frank discussed around here.
>>81845764
Dude is too 90s for people nowadays to care.
Eduardo Barreto

Well usually on /co/ I see people giving him tons of shit so that counts as underrated in my book. I've noticed a lot people seem to recognize his art but can't name him either too, which counts as underrated a bit too.
Underrated may not be the term though, unappreciated? I wish I could draw like him. I always love the coloring and how he makes everything glow and shine on paper.
>>81854585
He didn't do the coloring though?

Not bad.

>Nestor Redondo is legit one of the best artists in the entire history of the medium and no one's even heard of him.
Part of the reason is because of DC's spotty reprint program when it comes to the "DC Implosion Era" stuff. A lot of Redondo's best American comics work has never been reprinted, which is a real shame.

How is Budd Root underrated? He's pretty famous and liked in the "scene" that he's in.
>He's coming back for Kamandi
Can't fucking wait.
>>81864086
>Steve Rude
>Kamandi
Are you serious?
>>81864134
That new DC Kamandi Rebirth thing has him and Keith Giffen doing an issue of Kamandi together.

I LOVE Mannion and he's a major influence on me... That gritty old school style is just so damn cool. I love his sense of scale and the fact he pulls off that detail while keeping the poses fun and cartoony is godly. I can name very few artists that nail it like he does.
>>81839672
Enrico Marini
>>81839672
Rudy Nebres.
He's not exactly unknown... old school comics-heads and students of comics art and comics history will likely be familiar with his name, if not his work. But he gets little contemporary mention for a guy that industry legends John Buscema and Neal Adams once described as one of the best comics artists to put ink to paper that they had ever seen.
>>81864919
That's pretty awesome right there

Mike Del Mundo is my favorite artist in the industry right now. It is an absolute shame he's stuck at Marvel getting poor writers on his titles.
>>81839672
Doug Wildey. He's easily is in the conversation for the best western comics (as in comics about the Old West) artist.
What are some female comic artists that draw with really weird art-styles? I can't think of any.
>>81866120
not exactly really weird but emma rios art is pretty nice
>>81839672
Esteban Maroto.
And generally, all the Spanish guys from the Selecciones Ilustradas art agency who worked for Warren Publishing in the 1970s and early 1980s. It's really too bad that once Warren closed down in 1983, only a few of them were able to make the transition to Marvel or DC so they remained relatively obscure to North American readers.
>>81866329
Yeah, a lot of 70s books had these like now ultra obscure artists who were utterly breathtaking in terms of raw skill.
