>this is based Johns
I wish WB would give some creative control to Johns
>>
>>81817441
>>81817457
This is actually kind of true. Crime is a lot lower than joy, especially in Metropolis.
>>
Snyderman is not Allstar Superman, hes just a dude named Superman. Get over it
Hes not some weird paternal figure you project your insecurities too and his all peach and love and shit, hes just a dude
>>
>>81817524
I wish DC would give Johns enough creative control so he could straighten Snyder the fuck out. Instead of him reporting to Snyder, it should be the other way around.
>>
>>81817441
>>81817457
This is not a difference between Supermen. This is a difference between the worlds they live in. There is no city where sunshine and rainbows outmatch cries for help. That's even more sci fi than a man who can fly powered by the sun. That's not how our world works. That's not how the DCEU works either.
>>
>>81817457
Johns has, or at least had the most creative control of any one man when it came to WB's use of DC properties. It's possible he lost the gig after Green Lantern fizzled out.
>>
>>81817558
Then what's so "súper" about him?

>messiah figure punches really hard!

Fuck off, half of DC's metahumans can fight at that level. Superman without the will and means to actually inspire hope is not muh Superman, just a recolored Sentry.
>>
>>81817441
a real human being

>>81817457
super creepazoid
>>
>>81817637
>Then what's so "súper"

Strength, flight, eyes that shoot lasers

That's the super part

The "man" part is where the hope and dreams and courage come from, jackass

Superman is 50% powers, 50% man
>>
>>81817637
He has the superpowers but at the end of the day he's still a man. Hence the name. The movie builds all the messiah imagery but it also shows his human side. Hos tome with Lois, his desire to keep his mother safe, etc. He gave people hope by saving them. He sacrificed his life for it.
>>
>>81817618
It is not something to to take literally

He's saying that even if the bad stuff is there, hw can also hear the good things, that what Supermam is about, someone who doesnt let the horrible world destroy his optimism, Snyder'd versión choosed to become deaf instead even if that means letting his own mother die... He's like the antiSuperman atm

>Morrison
>Classic

Bonus points for using PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA in the fourth panel of the right side though
>>
>>81817686
Selective hearing still ignores cries for help. Do you not see that? The only difference is that comic Supes hears the good stuff, in a sense, lying to himself that everything is okay. It's not.
>>
>>81817441
I thought Superman could move at a speed similar to the Flash? Like, be anywhere in the world in mere seconds? What's his excuse then?
>>
>>81817639
Superman isn't a real human being though, I thought that was fairly clear
>>
>>81817663
>>81817680
He shows a lousy and rotten human side. Lois Lane was more heroic at some points besides not superpowers... The point is that Clark is also an outstanding human being. He is what makes the superhero, not just the alíen powers
>>
>Superman should be Big Brother
Hello, Injustice fans!

>>81817441
>/co/ pretending to like Johns
>>
>>81817618
>That's not how our world works. That's not how the DCEU works either.
Again missing the point completely. Do you honestly believe there are lot more cries for help than cries of cheers and Joys and laughter. Do you honestly believe there are lot more thievery and murder and mugging going around than people being joyous and happy? Superman is the ultimate figure of optimism. He would try his hardest to see more good than bad. This is just a lazy explanation by Snyder to justify his creative choices thus missing the point of the character completely.
>>81817639

That's not Superman's fault though, that's the environment he's in. DCEU Superman isn't a sociopath like /co/ enjoys memeing about, he's just a guy trying to do the right thing in a world where doing the right thing is written as naivety.
I like Cavill and Snyder's Superman as a character. The idea of a Superman who maintains a core of optimism while being faced with cynical situations is incredibly powerful and the perfect way to "modernize" Superman. It's just that I want the plot and script to actually allow for that to be conveyed properly.
>>
>>81817789
If you're such a winner, what are you doing in 4chan?
>>
>>81817779
>Was Batman supposed to be 100% right in the movies? If Lois is killed, Superman goes off the deep end.

No, that just proves Batman is wrong, because Batman is a mass murderer, and is most likely to murder Lois out of the entire cast of Dawn of Superjustice for the sole reason that he has the highest bodycount in the movie

And that includes Scoots McGee
>>
>>81817457
>I wish WB would give some creative control to Johns

I wish people like you stop being so casual, Johns creative input is usually terrible, he is only good working with the ideas of others and giving flat characters personalities. He is the definition of a headcanonfag. When he goes full Johns you end up with crap like Darkside war.
>>
>>81817777
Science fiction storytelling involves choosing your battles. Selecting the level of disbelief based on your personal prefences. Just because the story involves aliens and high technology, doesn't mean the world they exist in has to be the Mushroom Kingdom. There has to be some solid ground to balance it all out. Otherwise you have something like Jupiter Ascending.
>>
People who don't get Supes should not discuss the character. Let alone defend Snyder's abortion of him.

Go watch Superman VS The Elite, learn a thing or two about what makes him The Superhero
>>
>>81817791
I don't know anon, I still see a lot more people enjoying themselves than I read on the internet about BAD SHIT HAPPENING and pretend to be a cynic. If I can do it, Superman in comic can do it, Snyderman should too. But he won't because he isn't a Superman.
>>
>>81817848
>watch
>not read
NOW who's the casual? The cartoon butchered the comic story by making the Elite clearly evil.
>>
>>81817845
>DC BENDIS! DC BENDIS!
>>
>>81817834
>The idea of a Superman who maintains a core of optimism while being faced with cynical situations is incredibly powerful
Snyder is saying the exact opposite anon.
>>
>>81817848
>Go watch the animated adaptation of the comic
Casual detected
>>
>>81817851
>If I can do it
That's because you're ignorant of the world.
>>
>>81817866
>The cartoon butchered the comic story by making the Elite clearly evil.

The Elite were flat out evil in Kelly's original book. The fact that it was a single, hypercompressed issue made matters even worse. And every time Chester appears after that he's a bigger cunt than before, even after he dies.

When they adapted What's So Funny into vs. the Elite, Kelly took the opportunity to actually fix shit in the story. For example, he gave Manchester an actual backstory.

That's the benefit of having a screenwriter who also happens to have written the original work.
>>
>>81817874
It seems that way, but Superman really does maintain his selfless core and trust and love for humanity. He sees the worst of them because that's the 200% cynical world Snyder depicts stupidly, but he still trusts them and knows people are good. Hell, he even takes a punch to save Luthor from Doomsday right after he had his mom almost torched by the dude.
>>
>>81817866
They are casuals and this is /tv/ 2.0. You really expect them to read? I mean Jesus these fucks here actually believe Watchmen movie is a faithful adaptation.
>>
>>81817890
>When they adapted What's So Funny into vs. the Elite
I thought this came years after Kelly gave him a backstory?
>>
>>81817915

Kelly didn't give Chester his backstory originally. That was Loeb, well after What's So Funny.
>>
>>81817908
>that's the 200% cynical world Snyder depicts stupidly
You're right kid, the world is rainbows and unicorns.
>>
>>81817881
>muh cynicism. Mom, look I made it.
Actually read a comic before shilling for Snyder faggot.
>>
>>81817874
No, Snyder is doing what 99% of the writters had done, the whole idea of Clark reporting shit while there's a flood on thailand makes no sense if Superman doesnt shut the screams off.
Snyder's take is the traditional take in the comics, Johns crap is just faux feel good stuff.
Even Bruce Allmighty dealt with this issue better than Johns.
>>
>>81817928
>Loeb
Lol. Did Chester have a kid with cancer?

>>81817939
>Actually read a comic
Says the /tv/ casual.
>>
>>81817934
I never said that. I just said that we never see Superman explore the brighter side of the world so it makes it seem like Superman is in constant despair. I know it doesn't make Cavillman a different character, but it's ill conceived if you want to tell a story of Superman maintaining optimism in his world if all you do is depict him in pessimistic scenarios when it comes to day to day life.
>>
>>81817908
It's depicted in way that makes it seem he's doing it out of obligation, not because he enjoys it.
>>
>>81817965
>t's depicted in way that makes it seem he's doing it out of obligation

The whole conversation with Martha was about how he DOESNT have an obligation.

>>
>>81817779
>How can you like someone who's a literal death away from becoming a despot?

With that line of thought how can you like Superman at all? Shit, Timmverse Superman alone had what, at least two different what if despot storylines?
>>
>>81817965
Exactly.
It just seems like Nolan pitched the base idea way back in 2012 of this kind of Superman in our modern world, and Snyder wouldn't dare mess with it but is trying his absolute hardest to make it unnoticeable.
>>
>>81817989
More or less, yeah.

In fact, one of the things I most like about JLA Earth 2 is, is the real world closer to Earth 2 than to 1?
>>
>>81817973
Yet he forgets it in the next scene and gets all like "Superman was never real, no one stays good in the world"
>>
>>81817941

>>81817989
>we live in an 1984 shithole with absolutely no freedom or genuine happiness whatsoever

When you use the word "weird" like that you are basically saying "My vocabulary and ability to analyze and convey information has failed me and I now prostrate myself before the almighty gods of ambiguity. Please deliver me from the responsibility of communication."

OK, fair enough, I wouldn't be jumping down his neck if it wasn't Snyder, but I still despise that usage.
>>
>>81817846
The human world of JA wasn't the Mushroom Kingdom either.
>>
>>81818067
Is not about being relatable, are you dense? It's the interpretation most writters use to explain why the Clark persona exist.

Nobody gives a shit about Superman, the tortured soul. Not unless he's got the basis of Superman the symbol of hope to contrast.

The point of Superman is to entertain you. If you really look to a fictional character for inspiration and hope, then you need to reevaluate your priorities.
>>
>>81817770
The world is not a place that needs more darkness in it simply to add more darkness.

A young child loves heroes who smile and save the day. When they grow up a little they realize those heroes are fake and that the world is a complex place and they gravitate towards darker, morally ambiguous characters, or sometimes the outright villainous.

When they reach adulthood they finally realize why we need those stories about bright smiling heroes in the first place.

There's nothing wrong about superman, as far as he knows Batman is just a psyco that know has no control and put lifes in danger. While he pushed a WARLORD into a mud wall. Obama and the american goverment show hypocrecy, Superman in general in BvS is just trying to stop a violent guy from making things worst.

To be honest senpai, im a classic stoic, and even I know these fags are being edgey middle schoolers or are the truly sheltered ones. Happiness exists, Christ if it didn't then there would be no point. Some days im sure it is heavier one way or the other, but if so many people were truely hopeless in every city everywhere, why the hell would anyone even try?

Look, I live in Atlanta Georgia. We have a huge homeless problem, among some other things. Its a gritty city with a good bit of crime and a lot of rogue characters. But you know what? even they find meaning in their life. even they smile, and laugh, and have things and people they love. The level of cynicism described in this thread can not exist while people are still moving forward. Hell, this level of unhappiness isnt even biologically achievable. Look up the Hedonic treadmill.

>Johns has, or at least had the most creative control of any one man when it came to WB's use of DC properties. It's possible he lost the gig after Green Lantern fizzled out.

Not really. He was only a producer on Green Lantern in more of a glorified consultant role. I think the recent success of things on the TV side of things has elevated him to where he's starting to get some significant creative input.

Historically, he hasn't really been anything much than "the guy we brought in that wrote the comic books."

DC may not be good at handling Superman but he's still the biggest most important superhero in the history of the medium & genre.

In TV department he atleast gets to write some Flash episodes.

LOL I will never understand how even the most kool-aid Snyder defender swallowed this shill line that was derided before the movie even came out.

Stoics refer to a group of greek philosophers and those who have similar thoughts on how to go about life.

The give you the extremely abridged version, stoics prepare for the worst in almost all situations. They prepare for terrible situations mentally in a (mostly futile) effort to be prepared for the great tragedies of life like the death of loved ones or the unexpected loss of a job. This also means though that they can constantly apreciate the good in their own life. the health of their loved ones, the joy that comes with the company of friends, all that sort of thing. Its a great philosophy to adopt, but its not perfect. Some people extend the philosophy to people, thinking the worst of anyone they meet and then letting them surprise them when they end up not so bad. I dont agree with that last part, but I would be lying if I did not mention it.
>>
>>81819124
>stoics prepare for the worst in almost all situations
Welp, I guess you weren't prepared for a non-idealist Superman.
>the health of their loved ones, the joy that comes with the company of friends
Those things are more important than capes, anon.
If you ask me, I think stoicism is not your forte.

This, so hard.

But if anything felt cut short, it was his New 52 run. It definitely felt like his departure was premature. My best guess is he wasn't interested in being a part of the Truth storyline, and I can't rightly blame him.

It's not something DC can do. It's something WB needs to do. The problem becomes that the Snyders have enough money invested at this point that they can ignore whatever he says and do what they want...which is what I really think must be happening.
>>
>>81819941

This. His real self is who he is when he's not wearing the cape. I wish films would focus more on this duality. It's an interesting aspect of the character.

KEY THING some of you aren't quite getting, is that MOS/BVS's Clark doesn't think there is necessarily MORE bad things going on then happy things, its that bad things tend to be louder and blanket out the good things regardless if the good actually outnumbers the bad.
>>
>>81817628
If you believe the Variety report this past weekend, WB still wanted him to be their Feige. Being that is a full time job on its own though, and what with his existing obligations to the comics side of things, as well as consulting and writing for The Flash and working with Batfleck, he doesn't have the time to do it.

At this point they should juat pull their head out of their ass and do the most obvious thing in the world, which is paying Timm whatever he wants to do the love action version of what he did for the DCAU.

Say what you will about the DCAU. I'm not saying I want the movies to be a clone of it. I don't. You can't deny though that Timm demonstrated the capacity to build and captain a shared superhero universe accessible to the unfamiliar, and embraced by fans well before Hollywood realized there were sheckels to be earned out of doing so. Johns and Feige had the same background initially. Johns decided to redirect to comics. Feige became a producer. If you don't want Johns in that capacity, Timm is by far the most obvious next choice IMO.

>“We need our Avengers now.”
Really all the problems can be sum up with that line. WB/DC is going way too fast for their own good. It's not like they are going to lose money if they take it as slowly as Marvel did. People would stand in lines waiting too see the next movie if people were excited. Instead they are just rushing everything. And with that no real buildup. No world building. No real character development.

Yeah people are excited just to see people like Iron Man and Captain America but without a good solid structure at the base everything falls apart.

Even if they are 7 years behind people will still love the movies and would rank in that billion dollar box office if done right. It's not like them being slightly behind would impact the sale figures. But sadly they put the cart before the horse and now having so little to really show for it.

People confuse facts with fiction a lot.

Just because we read and watch a lot of works of fiction that depicts an awful world to live in, that is a world of horrible crimes and people, doesn't mean 99% of the world is shit.

Of course things like psychopaths exist, but they are less than 1%. Violent crimes also exist, but unless you live in a zone of conflict, they are also very rare. If your job is like, being a cop, you'll also see these awful things a lot, but that's your job, not the majority of people are like that and unless you let that awful shit get the best of you, you won't become a cynic person. See, fiction needs drama and excitement, so it focus on emulating the dramatic events that exist in real life. But that doesn't mean the real world is like this.

We get the two mixed up because we are exposed to fiction during our leisure time and we rarely take the time to know the actual world we live in. Next time you're downtown, try asking a stranger for help. I doubt the person won't help you. People do have a need to find themselves as good individuals.

Do you know what is the hardest thing to do?
Wake up, go to work so you can have some money to raise your kids and help your family in the best way you can. And guess what? That's what 99% of us are doing right now.
