It's worth pointing out that AoU and Ant-Man have colored your expectations (lowered them). Ant-Man was a commercial product because Wright's departure forced Marvel to make it with a lot of executive oversight (I still love Ant-Man though). AoU is an mob joys product of the Disney machine churning.
Now to the counterexamples:
Thor - Brannagh directed it like he would anything else, like a Shakespearean family drama (the writing was dumb for every Earth scene, but still)
The Dark World - got a Game of Thrones director (again, written to be shit)
Iron Man 3 is very VERY Shane Black. It has his signatures all over it: Christmas, buddy cop dynamic between Stark and Rhodey, and narration (the only MCU movie with narration!)
Winter Soldier is dope, no need to argue
Guardians is so obviously Gunn
Iron Man 2 was too much interference as well and just showed how great Favreau was with IM1
First Avenger was directed by Joe Johnston who worked on Indiana Jones movies (not sure how many or which ones off there top of my head) and it was a great send up to that era of action flicks, it even had a color filter!

Ant-Man taught me that no matter how hype I am about a cape flick, it doesn't matter now because there's just too fucking many. They're building their own genre, and most of them are mediocre or forgettable, and most of the time, nothing that happens in them matters by the time the next one is out. Even Deadpool, which I was moderately hype for, was just a by-the-books capeshit origin with raunchy humor and swear words tossed in. For all of its flaws, I did enjoy BvS, simply because it wasn't a capeshit movie. It was some weird, disaster, modern dystopia with gods walking among men, and I'm looking forward to SS because, again, it's clearly not capeshit. It might be some kind of shit, but not cape, as it has been currently defined.

I felt the same way about Ant Man, so I didn't go see it when it came out. Picked it up from Redbox and really enjoyed it. I kinda regret not seeing it in theaters

I did like Ant-Man. I just said that Ant-Man taught me there's no reason to get "hype" for any capeshit months in advance. All the trailers and teasers do is give away the best shit, anyway. There's nothing in it that I'm going to see that fucking matters. I'm going to sit in a theater for two hours, maybe have a few chuckles, then move on with my life.
