Is this worth reading? I like the premise but I've heard it's some edgy shit.
>>
It's the movie but darker and with a main character that you are legitimately just supposed to hate
>>
The first volume is decent. Millar's extreme brand of edge seems to fit very well with JRJR's lumpy dumpy poor-man's-Miller style.

It is a comic written like the man fucking hates comics. The book is so edgy and unpleasant it is near unreadable.
It's not even good awful like ruins where it moves you in a
> fuck man that was unsettling
It's a
>that was an unpleasant chore that I had to wade through for nothing.
Seriously, fuck that book
>>
>>81727813
>for nothing.

No you wade through it for and ending so bad that when people hear it the first time they don't believe you

He tells the girl he loves that he's not gay and how he feels about her, she freaks out and her boyfriend beats him up. That night she sends him videos of her blowing her boyfriend, the main character cries and jerks off to them. THE END

>KA1
Pretty nice on its own. Movie's a blast too.

>KA2
A bit meh and over the top edge, and sacrifices a bit more realism in some aspects. The movie was blah as they tried to input the Hitgirl mini into it.

>KA3
I liked the good ending.
>>
>>81726968
The original one is ok but from the 2nd season it became shit.
>>
ka1 and 2 are good
hitgirl was gr8
>>
>>81727964
Bullshit.
>>
Near the end of the story, he gets a picture sent to him of the girl he has a crush on sucking a black dude's dick. If that appeals to you, check out the book.
>>
I'm being serious when I say the movie is way better. Vaughn sands off the truly dumb edge and makes it into a real story.
>>
>>81726968
I dunno about the rest of /co/, but I liked it.
>>
>>81727964
Well, it's realistic at least.
>>
>>81726968
The movie was fun but the comic is just edge. It's not bad or anything but Miller always comes off as trying to hard when he does this kind of stuff.
If you're in to Miller's brand of edge then go for it. It's not as edgy as the usual shit though.
>>
>>81731493

My wife's son will love it.
>>
>>81726968
Depends your perspective really. If you're cynical about capes, there's no reason you shouldn't like it, but I don't think it's a bad comic even if you come from the opposite angle (except if you're one of those people who think that a comic that sends a message they don't agree with is bad).
>>
>>81727813
>the man fucking hates comics

He does. There's no 'like'.

I enjoyed it, but my favorite comic book writer is Garth Ennis, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
>>
>>81727813
>>that was an unpleasant chore that I had to wade through for nothing.
I couldn't have put it better myself. Seriously, this book was not rewarding in any way. Just like the movie.
>>
>>81726968
It's decent. Some nice ideas, has a lot of up-and-downs in quality, and some of the "down" moments are really cringy. Ending is mostly good
Read it if you haven't any good comics on your list.
Probably one of Millar's best works, though.
>>
>>81726968
its mockery of the concept, if you like that kind of stuff than its the book for you.
>>
>>81731791
That's meaningless. I love Ennis and can't stand Kick-Ass.
>>
>>81727964
that was the best part. I hate the Hollywood version "and then they fuck like bunnies, like with such abandonment they even do it behind a dumpster"
>>
>>81732007
I was just saying that since I read Ennis, I'm used to comics being a bit edgy. And by "a bit" I mean totally edge-lord.
>>
>>81731493
I liked that his dad had a life of his own and was not just living for his son and was not one of those "welp my wife is dead so I may as well turn into a living corps"
>>81728016
>I liked the good ending.
how did it end?I don't even remember
>>
>>81726968
The first one is fine. Second one is the 2edgy4me book.
3rd one failed to make any impact on me and I honestly can't remember what happened
>>
It's vigilante exploitation about burgeoning sociopaths that constantly fail at being superheroes...who then along the way grow into better people.

It's pretty fun when you just take it at the insane nature of it all.

Except KA2, which is just pure shit because Ennis tries too hard at making it his "Empire Strikes Back" and fucking fails.
>>
It's a comic for which the movie adaptation managed to be better than the source.
>>
>>81732053
>Ennis
Fuck, the mentioning of Ennis managed to make that typo happen.

>>81732035
>how did it end?I don't even remember
Dave finally gets over his bullshit, quits being a vigilante, and grows the fuck up. Hit-Girl recruits Kick-Boy.
>>
Movies are genuinely better.
The cast in both movies were great.
>>
>>81732061
movie adaptation just turned it into a paint by numbers nerd movie.
>>
>>81732033
Edgy doesn't mean poorly written.
>>
>>81732084
I'd say that the cast in the first movie is great.
But only the second movie is better.

The first really makes it lame.
The second at least makes the Motherfucker less of a rolling plot device and keeps him the same idiot he was in the first movie/volume.

Plus, the movie version of Justice Forever was GOAT.
>>
>>81732090
I know, I'm just saying that Ennis is edgy as hell, so Kick-Ass being edgy wouldn't stop me from liking it.
>>
>>81732081
I kind of dropped it when he turned into a fry cook and went to his dads grave to make batman like photos.then bitched when some oldfag and his ho took his cave.
>>
>>81732114
That was the first issue.
And I dropped it then too.

Got back into it a few months later...and it had gotten way too fun.
Like with the "Pro-Environment" Robin Hoods.

More like KUCK ASS
>>
How did you guys feel about the Kick Ass 2 movie?

I heard mostly negative reactions
>>
>never saw the movie but read and liked the comic
>talk with normie friend who loved the movie
>lend him KA1
You're telling me I shouldn't have? And also I should watch the movie I guess?
>>
>>81732212
No, you didn't do anything wrong. If your friend's taste is horrible enough to enjoy the movie then it's horrible enough to enjoy the comic.
>>
>>81732201
It's a better Kick-Ass movie than the first.
If you thought that the first movie really sort of homogenized the story...you'd like it.

It has that same really dumb funny kinda sense to it.

Except for the Hit-Girl subplot, which was just awful when it was just this one-off thing in her own mini. They sorta ruined that.
>>
>>81732234
So why are they a bad comic/movie?
>>
>>81732276
It's like Death Wish.
Just not good.
>>
>>81732276
there are not bad, they are just different but good in there way.you don't pick up a porno to bitch about the plot, when reading X genre you have to put yourself in a different mindset and many people have hard time with that.
>>
>>81732288
Wait, you mean the Charles Bronson Death Wish?
>>
>>81732288
That just sounds like you have shit taste and you can't even bother to make an argument about why.
But, cool.
>>
You can't deny that Kickass 1 is legitimately one of the best cape movies out there.
>>

>>81732346
Yeah, as a general cape movie it is pretty good.
But as a Kick-Ass movie it really is lacking.
>>
Millar is the retard behind Civil War. I think that gives you an idea of the level of "depth" he is capable of.
>>
>>81732431
That's an event though, never judge a writer by the events.
>>
>>81732431
Nothing about Kick-Ass tries to have depth outside of some basic character stuff.
