What's /co/'s honest opinion about Garfield?
>>81710838
Shitty Heathcliff rip-off meant to be as mass marketable as possible while losing the inherent nuance and subtleties that made Heathcliff so great. It's the pleb's comic strip.

>YOU ARE NOW IN THE POWER OF GARFIELD
Why don't you read a real comic strip instead op

that comic is what aspiring artists wish they could be: avant garde and confusing.

Heathcliff is better

Actually funny, witty, mischievous and dark in the 1980s, despite being intended as mass-market fodder.
Then Jim Davis got obsessed with his pal Brett Koth, who convinced him nothing was funnier than the visual humor of a squashed spider being used as a fake mustache.
From then on, Garfield was well-drawn but only mildly amusing stuff.
It is better now than it has been in years, but only because Liz as Jon's sometime GF brings a little more intelligence to some gags.

It's my favourite anime.
I almost cried at Jon's death.

For me it's just kinda there. I don't have any strong feelings towards it one way or the other.
Currently? I read Square Root of Minus Garfield from time to time.
I used to read older Garfield books back when I was a kid, those were pretty good.
It's like there was this creative gap between what was in the books and what was in the comics pages.
A willingness to get darker that wasn't there nowadays.

When I find myself having shitty days, Garfield Comics give me a hearty, sensible chuckle.
What's odd is that it's really about the NEET demographic if you think about it long enough
>'comic writer' who never makes comics
>continuously single, never gets gf
>really only have your pets, one of which hates you
>never said to have a job
>a wimpy dork who can't grow a fucking spine
>yfw you realize that you are Jon
