Just marathoned this and I think it was the best animated superman film I've seen. Right up until the copout where superman goes lol my robot friends did it and the massive explosions and killing of everyone was all theatre.

Would have been ten times better if this was a bad end film or something where superman did actually kill them in a unhinged mental state and maybe seeing lois or something brings him back to normal.

So what should I think of this?
>>
Film was alot of fun but it was also a mess to look at.

Also, Expy Jigen.
>>
>>81697033
The art style an animation was leagues better than the majority of DCAU.
>>
>>81696956
But the whole point of the superman robots is that Supes would never actually kill those people or the random bystanders, he was just making a point.

Had he actually done that shit and it was a bad end, the movie would have been a lot worse.

One of the few DC animated films I will revisit every six months or so. Love it every time.

Any movie made with an objective point or theme is in fact a flick.

But maybe this is cinema and you are too pleb to understand.
>>
>>81696956
I'm conflicted about this story because its message is muddled. Superman's way is right, but largely ineffective. Manchester Black's way is wrong, but gets results, and would be better if it was more controlled. This movie tries to treat a gray area as black and white. Just because you're going to kill villains that are a threat to humanity doesn't mean you have to start being a tyrannical asshole. You could just follow the laws, but understand when it's permissible to use deadly force for the greater good. You know, like a police officer or something.

Basically this movie condones the use of a broken system just because it's morally correct. I'm sure the friends and families of the people that Atomic Skull casually vaporized would agree.
>>
>>81697842
Yeah superman always had a shit moral that was shilled. Superman and Batman are both guilty of the shitty message that as soon as you kill one person you are bound to become a tyrannical killer who will kill anyone for anything no matter what. It's childish as fuck and I'm glad snyder said fuck you to that and made batman and superman realistic.
>>
>>81697842
that's a slippery slope, manchester. Not everyone, or well, anyone, is superman.

Sometimes not even Superman..

It's the epitome of limp wristed left wing rollover doctrine.

Superman would prefer you rollup in a ball and cry if an intruder breaks into your house as opposed to defending yourself. He promotes disarmament and would sooner see you dead than a criminal.

Fuck superman.

Manchester Black for president.
>>
>>81697986
would sooner see you dead than the criminal.

fixed.
>>
>>81697910
What's up with that? Are people just memeing or are attention spans so short that sitting through an entire movie is a "marathon" now?
>>
>>81697883
With Batman I can understand the code. He's operating beneath the system, he's street level, and honestly I blame Gotham police for not popping a cap into Joker or any of his contemporaries.

Superman is on a higher level. He's entirely above the system. He wants to go on and on about how our system "works", but it's not fucking designed for gods and monsters and atomic atrocities. Superman needs to know when to intervene. A lot of comics actually show him having no stupid code about not killing, and understanding when his responsibility is to deal with a threat that human society cannot. Somewhere along the line, this bullshit of "I CAN NEVER TAKE A LIFE, HURRRR" became the golden rule, and it's fucking ruining the character. When was the first time this shit popped up? Morrison's Man of Tomorrow? Fuck that shit, it's cringeworthy BS that makes Superman seem like an impotent baby who doesn't understand how the world works.
>>
>>81698021
the attention span of the average /tv/ user lasts ~13 minutes. Explains why they have even worse tastes than most of /co/.
>>
>>81697986
The message of the film completely went over you head. The scene with Pa Kent is Jonathan literally telling Clark to kick their asses to kingdom come.
>>
>>81698021

"Marathoned" is a stupid /tv/ meme used for shitposting threads, for example some anon would star a thread like this:

>I've just marathoned the first 5 minutes of 2001 An Space Odyssey, when does it gets good? this is shit only redditors would like it

or

>I marathoned Satantango in 10 minutes using VLC with 8x fastforward speed, you were right,a timeless kino

So we know we're getting invaded, t-thanks to Super Hero movies popularity...

>>81698049
No the message of the film was if you are a demi god like superman you have the privilege of not needing to kill your enemies.

And if a mortal tries to fix things for his fellow humans, well superman doesn't like you messing up his petting zoo so he'll put you down.

Superman is anti self defense, anti self determination, anti human rights. He's not the american way at all.

>>
>>81698405
>Superman had a machine that can de-power people the entire time and never bothered to use it.
I think the argument for that is that certain superfreaks are so fundamentally altered at the genetic level their powers can't be removed (Livewire, Atomic Skull, Clayface) while only slightly meta humans have more leeway.
>>
>>81698416

>Superman is anti self defense, anti self determination, anti human rights.

If I need to spell out why this is wrong about superman, perhaps the whole '/co/ doesn't read comics' thing is truer than I thought.

>>
>>81698463
The thing is, "comics" is a broad fucking term. There have been hundreds of interpretations of Superman in these "comics". Depending on what you've read and from what era, you can come across a plethora of different attributes that make up the character.
>>
>>81698463
Instead of defending your argument or explaining it in any meaningful way your pointed at someone else's points about being "anti-self defense" and "anti human rights". After which you insulted your audience by saying we don't read comics when I've damn well read Action Comics #775. Get fucked.

>>
>>81698809

>wanting a hero with a practical, appreciable understanding of authoritative responsibilities instead of preschool bullshit of "KILLING IS WRONG!!!!" is not cynical and depressive.
Just how sheltered are you manchildren? Holy fuck, grow up. The funniest part is that this "no kill rule" bullshit that you faggots keep jerking off over for whatever reason only came around because of the Comics Code Authority. It's not like the creators actually thought it was a good idea to make heroes who are fucking impotent.

I'm looking over the 1954 code. While it does forbid scenes of torture and depravity, it makes no mention of killing. Presumably if Superman choked the shit out of Luthor or vaporized him, it would fly under the code's otherwise pretty stringent radar.

That wouldn't be able to fly under the code's radar, killing without providing a trial is against the law and crimes were never allowed to be portrayed in a way to create sympathy for the criminal, or promote distrust for the forces of law and justice. In this Case superman is doing the latter by suggesting it's justified to go outside the system to deliver personal punishment.
