The funny thing is I liked Dead Pool, but only because Deadpool didn't give a shit since it's rated R. Guardians of the Galaxy was trying to tread this line between being obnoxious and immature without fully committing since it had to be PG-13, and it just makes the whole thing feel annoying ad reddit-tier to me. Deadpool holds nothing back, which is why it clears the valley of annoyance and ends up being good. It doesn't feel like it's trying to be offensive without offending anyone.

I wouldn't really call Guardians a comic-book movie as it successfully avoids most of the things that define that "genre"
It's definitely a fantastic movie, though. Some bits aren't perfect (Gamora needed another 30 minutes of characterization and there just wasn't time), but it's a very strong script with pitch-perfect casting, a memorable score, and a consistent tone with arcs and themes that pay off logically.
It's an above-average movie in basically every regard and that is so alien these days that it gets elevated to near-perfection by comparison.
