This woman is the best selling comic creator today by a hge margin and most of us dont even know her name.
>>
I thought Dork Diaries made more?
>>
>>81665177
>most of us dont even know her name.
Her shit marketing isn't my problem
>>
>>81665277
It's not shit marketing. She does literal children's books so we have no reason to be interested in her.
>>
>>81665177
and this is important because?
>>
Whhoooooooooo?
>>
>>81665285
>implying cape comics aren't literal children's books
>>
>>81665177
Shit marketing because WHO the fuck is she?
Also why would I care? I'm clearly not her Target readers.
>>
>>81665336
Capeshit is written at a YA level most of the time. This woman writes comics for actual children under 10.

If it's not something we'd have nostalgia for like Captain Underpants we're not going to talk about
>>
>ALL SMILES
>>
>>81665390
So I'll learn about it when it's current audience hits 16-18 ?
>>
>>81665390
>This woman writes comics for actual children under 10.
No she doesn't. She writes for young teens.
>I'm going to pretend I know more than you about this person even though I know nothing about them.
Honestly, she seems a perfect fit for /co/.
>>
I remember liking Smile when I first read it.

She adapted the Baby-sitters club? That's pretty cool. I hope she does adapts the mystery ones at some point. Probably won't, considering the themes in her previous books, but I can dream.
>>
>>81665238
I'm ashamed I keep getting tempted to read dork diaries because the art looks really adorable
>>
>>81665285
So only comics for adults can be interesting and have an interesting composition?
>>
>>81665177
so what is smiley about?
>>
>>81665177
So? That's like saying the guy who wrote Diary of A Wimpy Kid is important to /lit/ because of how popular his books were.
>>
>>81665522
slice of life story of a girl who eats shit one night breaks her teeth and gets braces
>>
>>81665522
IIRC, it's about a teenage girl getting braces, learning not to be a jerk to her little sister, and abandoning her old friends to become a Nintendo fangirl.
>>
>>81665466
I guess it's debatable but I wouldn't imagine someone older than maybe 12 reading her stuff. That's usually when you start reading a little more, like 5th grade or so.

>>81665502
Where did I say that? It's just that /co/ isn't going to elementary and middle school bookstores or shopping in those aisles to buy comics so there's no expectation that we're going to know about her.

And before you say it, there's a difference between a "kids" book and a book or show for "all ages"
>>
>>81665616

Most of us don't get hung up on labels here, bro.
>>
>>81665616
Eh, in this case it works, because its a self contained volume while "comic" is used to imply it was a floppy and then was collected
>>
>>81665338
>>81665277
How is her marketing shit when she is literally rolling in dough. Bitch breakd sales records lefr and right
>>
>>81665616
Comics are a type of storytelling. A graphic novel has a specific definition that refers to material printed all at once. Floppies are technically magazines. Sometimes those magazines are collected in one volume where to a consumer there's not effectively different from buying one printed all at once so they use the term graphic novel casually in that instance.

I don't see reason to get upset about words. It's not people just being pretentious.
>>
>>81665616
I call it a GN when I'm talking about some Arty shit
>>

That's not Rumiko Takahashi.

Its funny how people act like women and.girls and kids are invading comics when they already are an overwhelming force.

Its a minority that thinks its a majorty because of its myopia.

We are basically the kid who grew up in Baltimore who thinks the country is all black.

Oh wow, awesome, good for her :D

I have Drama and Smile, though years apart between purchases. I remember buying Drama specifically because it seemed like it was just a simple story, like I was used to when i was a kid. Not trying to deconstruct a genre, not raising the stakes, nothing supernatural, just a simple little story about kids. I want more like this in the mainstream, but as long as these kinds are available I'll keep track of them.

If there's one complaint I have about Raina's artowork, is this one mouth shape she draws relatively often. I dunno, it just really bugs me the way that upper lip is shaped. But that's so incredibly minor that it's barely worth mentioning.

Ah, that's too bad.

Looking back, it's pretty amazing how many of those books were made. Wikipedia says that Raina made a few sequels; I wonder how much of her money came just from that?

Not that I think it's bad of her or anything. Her art seems to fit the themes and target audience, from what I've seen, and I'm happy to see old series like that making a comeback.

Also, it seems like she id some work on pic related, if anyone in the thread is interested in that kinda stuff.

man dork diarys have been around forever. I remember reading them back in middle school
>>
>>81666913
Right, I get it.

You don't like it when people use "graphic novel" incorrectly (maturity level of content).

It gets you soooo angry.

In fact, you're so angry, you even get pissed when you see people use "graphic novel" correctly (format of publication).

But here's the crazy thing:

YOU are the reason why the former group exists.

Because, instead of helping to affirm the legitimacy of the latter group, you attack them.

Your attacks on the correct usage only helps to spread confusion about how to use "graphic novel" correctly.

Think about that the next time you hear some confused person say "I don't read comics, just Graphic Novels".

It's your own fault for helping to confuse them.

Also, you're saying that because you're a dick, you do an annoying thing.

Does she have groupies, it sucks woman writers dont have groupies because to me at least a 5/10 woman goes up like 4 points if she is a succesful creator.

I would legit give gail simone backstage head
>>
If you point her out and all of her sustained success in threads complaining about why kids don't read comics you just end up ignored, which just shows /co/ still has a superhero bias when it comes to comics.
>>
>>81666093
When they say invading they don't mean females in the creation process. They're upset over them as a marketing demographic, that is to say pandering to some kind of perceived agenda that's invading comics.
>>
>>81666179
Nice Shrilling I guess?
>>

Yes, why'd companies expose themselves to the free market when they got a cozy agreement with a monpolist that all but guaratnees them an income no matter how awful their product is? It's an absolute mystery.
>>

Comic sales in the direct market are so small they may as well not exist

Compared to the billions dc and marvel make over all they are.

Also full discolsure someone should parse out total big 2 floppy profit, then big 2 tpbs then compare that to the Dc and Marvel Entertainment profit.

For example I know Marvel studios is under Marvel Entertainment but isnt dc all done by WB? So its a cross liscening thing
