I miss the trend of properties aimed at adults getting a cartoon and toy line aimed at kids. It was silly and bizarre but a part of me wishes it would have continued to this day

ITT cartoons that where adapted or comics adapted from adult-aimed movies

Would The Real Ghostbusters count too?
>>
>>81665244
Eh, it wasn't rated R to begin with.
The transition doesn't stand out as much as, say, Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Realm.

A cartoon based on a movie that was based on a video game. Can we go deeper?

How the fuck did they expect kids to know who this was?
>>

If Police Academy counts, so does Ghosbusters. Both had blowjob jokes.
>>
>>81666241
It's a shame this was so poorly thrown together, a Little Shop cartoon is kind of a neat idea.

Blew my fucking mind when I actually got around to watch the movie

I think the only episode I remember with some form of clarity is that one where he goes to a bad future. The bird's a statue, and his love interest is turned into a lizard person.
>>

Me too. The only things they had in common were some names, Bettlejuices appearance and the fact that ghosts existed. And the snad worms.
>>
>>81666617
Not much for it. This is one of those cartoons older than fanart, and without enough of a cult following to produce fanart now.
On the plus side, live action Callahan is hot too.

Had the toys and the genesis game.

Did Troma work out some sort of licensing deal where it got not one, but two of its properties turned it no kids series? I would of loved to have sat in on the sales pitch for that

>OK frank we're going to turn two of our obscure, ultra violent exploitation b-movie franchises into Saturday morning kids cartoon complete with a toy line! And one of em is going to be a Captain Planet-style environmental edutainment

I loved all the police academy comics! Strangely enough, I don't remember the cartoon, despite the comics being base on it.

What current IPs aimed at adult could make good cartons and wich ones would not?
>>
>>81669209
The only recent big action movies I can think of that were rated R are Mad Max Fury Road and Deadpool.

Deadpool's already known to the kids: hell, my 6 year old nephew is a Deadpool fan (and my sister has said in no uncertain terms that there's no way he's seeing the movie for a long time).

A Mad Max animated series could be awesome for all the wrong reasons.
>>
>>81669521
It would certainly be easily merchandise-able.
>>
>>81669209

Mad Max and The Fast and the Furious come to mind.
>>
>>81669548
>All those potential car toy sets

WB is just burning money not making a Mad Max cartoon.
>>
>>81669776
Heck, Fury Road had the perfect plot to turn into a series.

Max and Furiosa leading a ragtag bunch of misfits in their search for the Green Place. Meanwhile, they're pursued by the evil Immortan Joe and his War Boys.
Along the way, Max and Furiosa find many small settlements, each with their own problems that must be solved, and lessons to learn.
>>
>>81666478
Well, Ed Grimley started out on SCTV which wasn't on at midnight but probably would still be a bad choice for kids.
>>

Of course there's also Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game
>>

Funny, the original movie was rated "G", but there's man-ass, maybe a titty, humans being killed and strung up like deer (with grinning apes posing for pictures) vivisection, threatened castration, socio-political commentary minor bad language (you'd have heard much the same on Star Trek:TOS)...yeah, there's a fair amount of mature material + straight-up nightmare fuel.

Alternatively, every episode his Dog-of-the-week gets murdered by someone, and he dishes out unholy vengeance upon them.
>>
>>81666953
It may have happened for a toy deal. That was how Eastman and Laird were talked into the TMNT cartoon, it was the only way they were going to get decent toys made. I remember having a few of the Toxic Crusaders action figures.

Maybe not "for adults" but Back to the Future was defintly in that PG-13 area and not nessarily "for kids" even if it was popular with every age group.

And if you think about it due to time travel shenanigans the story potential is endless. Odd that it didn't last long

3. I saw Toxic Avenger movies at the video store and that lead me down an awesome path.

Swampy at the time wasn't that well known as a super hero character despite having existed since the 70's and, at the time, was still running the more adult orientated Alan Moore Vertigo run. I think most people knew it from two low budget live action horror movies that came out in the early 80's. But since everyone was getting a toy line and a cartoon at the time, what the fuck not. The show only last 12 episodes but the toys where pretty sweet. Oh and he fought against pollution like every other cartoon did at the time

Look at that promotional image. Who do you see? Doc, Marty and Einstein.

Who were the actual protagonists of the cartoon? Doc's kids. Doc was barely a secondary character and Marty showed up only like once every five episodes.

dunno about a cartoon, but there was a pretty great Aliens comic going at the time (the Kenner toys even had their own little mini-comics included). They later mashed it up with the Predator in the comics because FUCK YEAH, which is why we also got those sweet Pred action figures and eventually those rad as fuck AvP games on PC and in arcades.

That was a glorious time to be a kid into monster movies.
