Because it has a nice flash forward ending, with Timmy living a good life as an adult and his kids getting his old fairies. And the kids resembled both Trixie and Tootie to avoid shipper backlash. Also the show went downhill fast after it.

It was okay. It was really only notable for it's popularity in its early run, same as Spongebob. Nowadays it's nothing to write home about, even rewatching early episodes.
