I don't think you understand. Mulan probably wasn't the strongest or best soldier in combat, but she was probably the smartest in Shang's unit, if not all of China.
All her victories are through guile rather than dumb muscle.
I noticed that there are three times in "I'll Make a Man Out of You" alone where Mushu should easily be seen by Shang but isn't because Shang's barely out of frame at the time. Like here, Mushu is trying to help Mulan up while Shang walks toward them, but he hides a few frames before he gets there. Does he walk everywhere with his eyes closed?

Why did china need to train their soldiers? Historically the chinese just conscripted a horde of peasants, gave them pikes and sent them at the enemy. It's the entire reason small armies of horsemen could conquer china because the chinese armies were so shit.
