Can we all agree now that being iconic has nothing to do with box office success?
>>
Yeah, I think Civil War will have the same fate, but worse.

What's happening to superheroes?
>>
>>81618990
I thought we all knew that since Guardians of the Galaxy was a massive success.

Casuals don't care about iconic characters.

Being iconic doesn't mean anything in this day and age.
>>
Supes really needs something to break up the visual of that spandex, looks like his dick should be imprinted through it.
Or maybe don't do the 6 pack effect?
>>
>>81618990
I assure you that if it was Beast Boy vs Blue Beetle, it wouldn't even earn half of what BvS earned

BvS earned what it earned entirely on the names of Batman and Superman. The only reason it wasn't a huge success was cause the movie is a pile of dog shit
>>
well, they wouldn't get to 800mil without being two of the most iconic characters ever with such a shitfest of a movie
>>
>>81619018
This. Civil War will be the blunder of the year, doesn't mean cap isn't iconic
>>
>>81619085
Or if it was Overman v Nightman.
>>

What about Dayman vs Nightman?

I thought that was foxmen?

What, is there going to be another cave troll, and Cap and Tony stop fighting because their moms have the same middle name?

There's going to be a German troll and cap and Tony stop fighting because they hear cuckys name

So Civil War is still the blunder of 2016?

What about Doc strange?
>>
>>81619196
Fuck if I know, I have next to no interest in that film or character.

What's a /co/ck/ thread?
>>
Anyone recall the predictions of BvS that were supposed to make it awesome?
Something about Aquaman having a whole subplot in the movie.
Doomsday evolving to not look like a cave troll.
Dunno if anyone ever thought Lex wouldn't be a spazzing faggot.
Anyone expect Lex to properly trick them into fighting each other rather than actually making it a hostage situation fight? The only way that could have been a good thing is if Bats listens to Supes but radios back to Nightwing or one of the Bat-family to tell them to find Ma Kent while they put on a show for Luthor, even then I don't know that there'd be any weight to their fight.

Let's have a decent discussion on 2016 films?

Now that deadpool and Batman v superman are out, what are you hyped for?

X-Men: Apocalypse and Suicide Squad will be the saviors of capeshit 2016.

DC should have made Lois black, their movies would have gotten better reviews by default.
>>
>>81618990

Being iconic can be helpful, but you still need to build your audience.
Avengers and Star Wars are only so successful because they got a have a huge fan-following over the years.

So far Man of Steel and Batman v Superman were more successful than any of Marvels Phase 1 solo flicks (thanks to their iconic popularity).
If this trend continues with Suicide Squad and WW, then maybe they got a possible shot at 1 billion with Justice League.
But the suits prolly expected more success much earlier... just like Sony imagined that ASM2 would magically break $1b.

Cinematic Universes are a slow long-term investment, not a quick buck.
>>
>>81619563
>People on /co/ counting out X-Men once again only to later be proven wrong time after time.

I really shouldn't be surprised at this point.
>>
>>81619548

The best Batman movie to date made only $374m worldwide.
>>
>>81619587
I mean, I'm sure it's gonna be good but "savior"?
>>
>>81619587
Days of future past was awful, and apocalypse looks even worse.
>>
>>81618990
Nah, if they weren't iconic they would have flopped fant4stic - like. It's just that iconic characters bring you only so far, so if your movie sucks you're not going to make as much money as an actual good movie with less iconic characters.
>>
>>81619532
Studios receive roughly 50% of the gross. Remember, people like distributors if it's not also the production company, theatres and the government get their share to. Big movies also tend to have big marketing budgets. Deadpool cost 58 Million to make and 100 Million to market. Bigger the movie, bigger the marketing budget.

Point is, a 250 Million dollar movie the size of B vS, according to many industry insiders will most likely need to pull in at least 3 times it's budget if not more to make a profit on the film. 50 Million profit is not particularly great for a movie this big.

Considering Marvel's already made more in 10 years on capeshit than have in 40, apparently it isn't.
>>
>>81619018
>What's happening to superheroes?

The trend is passing. People want to blame it all on BvS, but this was already happening. Like cowboys, ninjas, cyborgs, and zombies, superheroes have a limited cultural shelf life with normies.

That's bullshit. Deadpool just came out and it was a huge hit. Daredevil is one of Netflix most popular shows. The only trend that's passing is the idea that WB can be trusted to make a good super hero movie post 2008.
>>
>>81619077
I like the look he had recently in the comics where there were two red diagonal stripes almost meeting at the crotch. It kept the aesthetic appeal of the outside-briefs without the silliness.

Pretty much only the Marvel ones, desu. Civil War is bound to be stuffed to the gills, but with the writing and directing team of Winter Soldier, there's bound to be some good fight scenes and heart-wrenching moments.

Strange has the look of a hit in the making. I can't wait for that next trailer.

I was hyped for Suicide Squad, but the rumors surrounding the reshoots, and the fact tat there turned out to be reshoots after all, killed it for me.

Couldn't give any less of a shit about Apocalypse.
>>
>>81619607
Batman Begins was coming off of Batman & Robin, a film that at the time killed any interest in the Batman film franchise, delaying any future installments. Now thanks to the Nolan trilogy, Batman is more popular than ever.

There's no excuse for this one, honestly.
>>
>made less millions benefits than expected
>IT'S A FAILURE
I hate when fandoms talk like marketing suits.
>>
>>81619705
Bullshit. BvS fucked up. Deadpool is making more money than it. People aren't bored, they just are starting to have higher standards because the sheer number of movies is kind of forcing them to pick a team.

WB fucked up bad enough that people won't care to follow it anymore. Even FOX will if they don't re-evaluate their approach after Apocalypse and Deadpool.
>>
>>81619705
Sure friend
>>
>>81619678
Now that's odd. What ratio will the super duper special director's cut be?
>>
>>81619705
>superheroes have a limited cultural shelf life with normies.

Kek, how fucking young are you?

Marvel might be trendy right now, but super heroes in general have always been really fucking popular.

Super hero films are always blockbusters, and comic books have always been a huge part of pop culture.

>being this delusional
Marvel's not going anywhere. Hell, they literally moved the full review embargo up to next Wednesday just to laugh in your faces.

The fact of the matter is that there was never a Superhero "trend". Marvel has a great producer who makes relatively competent bets. WB, Fox and Sony have generally have idiot producers who 9/10 times make awful bets. Superhero films aren't a "phenomenon", Marvel is simply to summer blockbusters what Pixar/Disney "run by same producers as Pixar" Animation is to cartoon movies: slightly more intelligent than the autistic competition.
>>
>>81619705
As long as good genre movies come out, or at least if they don't underperform, the genre stays hot.
>>
>>81619705
It will pass eventually, but not yet. BvS not earning the money it's supposed to is not a sign of superheroes failing, but simply the film not being very good.
>>
>>81619705
>>The trend is passing.
I love this fucking excuse. It's just another passing the buck like "there's a conspiracy by Disney" or "the audiences are brainwashed".

Let's just ignore that Days of Future Past, Deadpool and Ant-Man were all successes that got confirmed sequels. No, it's that people are clearly bored of heroes and not that a movie just sucked
