Good evening owls of /co/,

Let's read some HAWKMAN CONTINUITY SHENANIGANS
>>
>>81568532

>>81568376

>Here's some news! Gerard Way joined the panel, and announced that he has his own imprint at DC, called, "DC's Young Animal." "DC is letting me have an imprint called Young Animal. The first book is 'Doom Patrol,'" Way said. It'll be written by Way, and illustrated by Nick Derington. "It's really weird," Way said. It'll pay tribute not just to Grant Morrison's famed run on the series, but the history of Doom Patrol.

>Also coming from Young Animal: "Shade, The Changing Girl" from writer Cecil Castellucci and artist Marley Zarcone. Cover by Becky Cloonan. "It's another alien, a woman alien, who's hiding in the body of a teenage girl that used to be a bully," Way said. "She has the Madness Vest. The Madness is kind of taking over."

>Another Young Animal book: "Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye." Written by Way and Jon Rivera with art by Michael Avon Oeming. Way said that the comic will deliver on its promise of indeed explaining why Cave Carson -- a sci-fi spelunker introduced by DC back in 1960 -- has a cybernetic eye.

>Rounding out the lineup: "Mother Panic," written by Jody Houser, with art by Tommy Lee Edwards and John Paul Leon (covers by Edwards). "This one is set in Gotham," Way said. It'll focus on a new character. Lee pointed out that "Mother Panic" is a mature readers book.

Nah, let's talk about how White Fixer is a travesty.

So they created a new imprint for old DC stuff so I'm guessing maybe Vertigo will keep being their creator's books?
>>
DC came up with an "everyone wants to write Kamandi" solution, apparently

>Another announcement! In the spirit of 1985-1986's "DC Challenge," a 12-issue series where 12 teams of creators told one story, round-robin style, DiDio announced the "Kamandi Challenge," where 12 writers and 12 artists were "carefully selected" and then paired at "random" to tell a story starring Jack Kirby's Kamandi, The Last Boy On Earth.

>Here are the teams: Dan Abnett & Dale Eaglesham, Peter J. Tomasi & Neal Adams, Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, James Tynion IV & Carlos D'Anda, Bill Willingham & Ivan Reis, Steve Orlando & Philip Tan, Marguerite Bennett & Dan Jurgens, Keith Giffen & Steve Rude, Tom King & Kevin Eastman, Greg Pak & Joe Prado, Rob Williams & Walter Simonson, Gail Simone & Ryan Sook and Len Wein & José Luis García-López. (Yes, that's 13 teams.)

Carter was never exactly a cerebral type, like say Katar.

He acts, does what makes the most sense to him at the time and doesn't dwell too long on it afterward. Hal's sort of the same way.

I'm beginning to think the thread-goers here have a particular archetype they like.
>>
>Will Elseworlds make a return? "In some ways, 'Bombshells' is Elseworlds," DiDio said. "'Multiversity' sort of filled that gap. We want stories that have a real meaning, with relevance. It's not that we haven't been looking, we want the right ones. If we bring it back, it has to matter."

Thank you Dan

Toxic whoreshit attitude aside, the whole point of Elseworlds is that they don't really "matter" since they exist to tell stories you can't do in the mainline books. Or is Bombshells a vital part of the deepest lore you're setting up?

.... Sigh.

So you know how Golden Age Paula von Gunther was redeemed and became the Amazons' chief of SCIENCE? Well, I kinda got it in my head that she would eventually spearhead a technological revolution that steered the society more towards an industrial and more overtly militaristic direction. This would include a more modernized update to their aesthetic, most notably incorporating distinctly... German fashion into their culture, and more regimented lifestyles.

Yeah, you can probably see where this is going, and why I hate myself for this idea. The worst part is that the plot is more or less the movie Iron Sky, but on Themyscira instead of the Moon.

Well, these Amazons aren't evil, but there is a sect of them led by Alkyone that wants to invade man's world. Paula is kinda torn between her newfound values and her hatred of the world she left behind. Shit gets out of hand when Steve lands and Alkyone tries to use this as an excuse to attack, but Diana isn't having any of that shit, and so she goes about preventing war between Themyscira and the US.

But yeah, this is what happens when you base an Elseworlds idea on a shitty pun.

This whole comic is just so shitty in such an inoffensive way. The story could be good, but is dull as hell. The interactions are dull. The high concept stuff is dull. The art is dull.

That line about Hawkman being a demiurge does lend ammunition to my Hawkman + Hawkwoman are the prehistorical, culture hero lovers of Thanagarian culture who struggle against the adversity of life represented by seven devils headcanon though (Thanagar has a reincarnation cycle faith with no endpoint - the struggle is endless, the Hawks are the living symbol).

>>81572494
It's TNC baby. I was meh on the first issue - not bad, not good.

I think for what this story is going for for the first issue I would have had it from an outside perspective - like, one of the miners. Show the authority the king wields from the one it is wielded upon. Then at the end of the issue your point-of-view is brought before the king in full glory and we get the perspective switch that the series will run with. What's inside BP's head?

The stuff in >>81572482 about the map, and revising Wakanda is neat though. Even if I think Kotaku is according it with a little more than they would with other writers.

Oh man, are you in agreement with that? I would love if Bendis could tap his own unique experiences in adopting and raising minority kids into a Miles book. But Bendis cannot write, and Miles' book is bad.
>>
>>81572508

O yeah, Hawkman at his core is pretty simple, dude who flys around and beats the crap out of villains with a mace and other ancient weapons. But of course at this point "Hawkman has an absolutely convoluted insane history" is as iconic a part of the character as his core concept is. I mean shit even with the New 52 rebooting things they still couldn't resist hinting at insane Hawk Continuity shinnanigans in Future's End
>>
>>81572663
It's slightly overhyoed, but it looks good to new readers and it's coming off a LOT of shitty BP portrayals.

I'mma let TNC have his love and I hope he grows into his potential because TNC does fucking read a nonzero amount of comics, but I'm not going to act like BP's always been the biggest thing in black capes.
>>
>>81572644
As far as I can tell, it's because "we can get away with it". Marvel hates leaving money on the table, and they really hate that new readers won't play ball with the market as its been established towards older readers.

>>81572694
Mostly just a sarcastic way to say "Miles' book hasn't accomplished jack shit other than giving him an Uncle Ben moment every 4 months or so".

I'd love for Miles to actually be interesting. For this to happen, either someone else needs to write him, or Bendis needs to drastically improve, which would probably start by dropping a shitload of his other books.
