But the city is cursed. There's been horrible things happening in Gotham in the comics for centuries it seems, and the city churns out weird, twisted things whether Batman has anything to do with a villain's origin at all.
Batman's not the cause of Gotham being Gotham, he's a symptom. See, I realized this partly as a result of reading that "Hank Pym is a Mad Scientist who ended up being a superhero". Well Batman is a Gotham City villain who ended up being a hero. Think about it. Joker is an unhinged guy who is obsessed with dressing up as a clown and causing twisted joke crimes, because he got his body bleached and it made him looks like a clown. Two-Face is an unhinged guy who is obsessed with duality and a choice between two options, because he got his face half-scarred. Batman is an unhinged guy who is obsessed with dressing up as a bat, and terrorizing criminals in Gotham, because he was terrorized when a criminal killed his parents. The city is madness, and dark humor and fear, and Batman is part of it, but nowhere near the source of it.

Gotham became a much better show you realized that the show runners weren't taking themselves so seriously. Its a insanely dark and campy show that somehow works.
I liked the first season way more than I had anticipated.
I loved the whole villain-of-the-week, cape-comics meet buddy-cop crime thriller.

I'm with imdb ratings on this one. It started pretty boring with forced references and villian of the week, then switching between storylines for different characters and now every episode has more focus on one single storyline, while setting up the other.
I think it had its peak with Bruce trap for Silver to the episode where he confronts his parents murder, the last episode have been ok so far but nothing tht great.
