A lot of contrarians and South Park fans will deny this, but

A lot of contrarians and South Park fans will deny this, but Family guy was a fairly funny, charming show back in seasons 1-3. Sure, there were still a few cringe moments and jokes, but overall it was a good show.

I miss when Seth's style of humor was more corny/cute (Who touched the thermostat?), rather than tryhard and edgy like it is now. I don't know why he changed it.
>>
It sucks that Family Guy's current terribleness overshadows the time when it was actually good, I still like rewatching old episodes occasionally.

Or when people crap on American Dad just because Seth's name is attached to it.

Hmm?
Oh. Yeah-
We can reasonably agree with that.
But it's a pity that it went so far up its own asshole that it turned around to go and do it again!

He's not even attached to these shows these days, as far as I know.

S1-S3 was pretty comfy. Mainly cause most adult animation shows in the early 2000s were like that.

The problem with Family Guy is that it was born with the simple premise "let's do The Simpsons with another family", and everything good that ever came of it was an accident, while every plan fell short almost immediately.
Stewie being an evil genius was never funny, so they resorted to contrived gay jokes. Meg had no reason to be there except "maybe someday we'll need a girl for a story" (they never did). And Chris is a walking background gag with 20 funny jokes in all 10+ seasons of Family Guy. Nothing worked out.
South Park and The Simpsons were something new when they first aired, Family Guy was old, traditional, unoriginal on day 1.
If anything, it took a while to find its footing, and by telling a ridiculous amount of jokes (there is an average of one every 15 seconds or so) they got a lot of good ones.
A broken clock is right once a day, and Family Guy's humor had days going so fast that the broken clock was right many times.
It always was a mediocre show. Its merit is coming out when there was literally nothing else to watch on TV, and having a metric ton of gags, some of which ended up really memorable.

The thing I miss about the old FamGuy episodes was the rougher, more "ghetto" looking background art. It gave me a bit of a Hey Arnold/Class of 3000/Recess vibe.

This is pretty accurate, while the precancellation episodes are memorable, they've never been more than televised junk food.

Yeah, I see what you mean, these days the backgrounds are so clean and detailed that it feels sterile.

Sure. It was basically an edgier Simpsons but not nearly to South Park's extent. It wasn't as great as the either two shows but it managed to be decent. Now Family Guy and Simpson are former shells of themselves and South Park, while still alright for the most part, has yet to reach the level of quality Season 6 and 7 had years ago.

I'm a South Park fan and I knew FG used to be good.

I'm pretty sure that it was common knowledge.

I swear it's like Seth heard the "at least it's not it's own ass with messages" line which was Matt & Trey making fun of THEMSELVS and jumped to the wrongest conclusion possible.

Yeah, it does

I don't know why but the old backgrounds remind me of something like Rocket Power a bit

you now remember the "we salute family guy, the most original TV series" image

I agree OP. On occasion I'll good back and watch an episode or two from those seasons for old times sake.

you know that is kinda a good point, the show would probably have been better in the long run if they either didn't have Meg and Chris in it at all, or had eventually written them off(hell they had a perfect opportunity for Meg during Don't Make Me Over, if they had her stay a successful musician they could easily write her off the show, while still making it easy for her to come back if needed, no idea how to do that for Chris though)
>>
>>81527164

This was back when Seth actually cared an iota about the show and didn't sell it to hacks even more talentless than he.

He ran away to South America in that one episode and got married. They could have written him off there
>>
>>81527164
Eh it's better now
>>
>>81537527
well I was trying to limit it to writeoffs that could still allow them to come back if needed with minimal explanation, maybe have that episode where he starts attending Carter's old school have him stay there permanently(maybe Lois convinces Carter to take up Chris' tuition)

i dont know why family guy gets so much shit for copying the simpsons

theres 10000 live action sitcoms that use the basic family format

but if there's 2 cartoon sitcoms that do the format OMG IT'S COPYING THE SIMPSONS
