It's tricky. The movie was worthwhile because it happened before the whole cape bubble / scorched earth campaign started. The sequel is getting made because it makes so much sense from a producer's point of view, but there's little justifiable creative motivations for it, considering the thematical saturation.

Still, I agree Bird's earned the benefit of the doubt, despite pic related

That's not how creativity works. If you have something interesting to do with the theme that's justifiable creative motivations, and that's why the first movie was made, not because the climate was free of the same thematic.
Where this movie isn't creatively motivated is that it's a sequel to make money on name recognition, not because a take on a genre that's overwhelmingly present (see: Deadpool).

The "saturation" is purely a business concern.

Saturation does diminish actual thematical effectiveness, but it depends on the type of undertaking. There was huge craft all-around in the original, but the film really worked because the audience could be effectively engaged through the (by then) somewhat unusual treatment of a story which was ultimately about midlife crisis and family, among other things. Not about superheroes. Supers were the setting, not the theme.

Deadpool achieved a very efficient form of audience engagement based on broad, neatly constructed complicity. It worked *because* there's thematical saturation (I don't say it didn't take risks though, I respect it, though it's not a comparable effort)

As an artist, you can't present your work to be considered as a standalone entity; there's a big chunk of arrogance and conveyance of personality to Art, but not even the head-up-own-assiest of artist dares to disconnect his or her work from the essential component of communication. It requires an audience; therefore, it requires the consideration of context.

It's like that for at least half cape stories.

>As an artist, you can't present your work to be considered as a standalone entity
Sure you can, you mean you shouldn't.

I haven't seen Zootopia yet. All this hype, excitement - didn't care at all. Cinema is 300 steps away from my house. I could go anytime.
I am probably a dead person inside.

In my opinion, as soon as you hear about all the hype and excitement it's all over. Nothing good comes of getting hyped up over a movie because it won't surpass the excitement.

Better to know it's popular in a vague, disinterested way, and give it a look, than to hear over and over again how it's mindblowingly awesome and then go to the theater and be disappointed.

Yeah, it's a good thing there wasn't enough time to read some of the bios as they flashed on the screen, otherwise this movie would've been much darker.

Or if they had kept the pilot character who died when his plane and Helen and the kids were shot down.

And then there were the superhero interviews where some of them were outright sociopaths. Man, it was so good to see so many different types of people as superheroes and see how they saw things but Jesus it would've been creepy to see some of them in action.

>strength 85%
>indestructibility 5%
How does that even work? You punch someone and both his face and your fist explode?
>>
>>81514734
Can lift things but getting hit hurts? Or maybe "strength" means just "power" or "strength of powers".
>>
>>81514957
No, you see, strength is useless unless your body can resist the powers using it puts on your bones and muscles. It even says "super strength" in her profile. Even having it as a separate category is strange. That's like if Supes would get completely fucked-up if he hit a bird or a branch while flying somewhere.
>>
>>81515397
Superman can also lift a plane instead of his hands ripping right through it, as they should have, since he's putting so much pressure on such a small surface area, so obviously there's some leeway in physics here.
>>
>>81515485
Don't even try to insinuate that lazy physics and complete incompatibility of powers is the same thing.

Obviously it's better than Zootopia in every way. Why is this even a discussion? I liked Zootopia, but furries will defend anything.

>>81512329
I really want to believe too, but it's been too long and Pixar is totally different now. Brad Bird said he would only make a sequel if he thought it was better than the original, but I'm still gonna try to lower my expectations. On the other hand, Michael Giacchino has to live up to huge standards in my mind.
>>
>>81515683
It is, since you're depending on the laws of physics to claim that the powers are incompatible.

Even though The Incredibles and many other films are better than Zootopia, Zootopia is still good. Why do you people always have to pit one against the other in these pissing contests, its not like you have to pick only one to watch until the end of time. If you had an actual criticism that would be one thing, but this stuff is just ridiculous.
>>
>>81517503
Tell that to the Zootopia shillers who insist that the movie is mindblowing and anyone who thinks otherwise is lying or stupid and who pop up across boards and in multiple threads and push that meme instead of sticking to one thread at a time here.
>>
>>81517503

>>
>>81517671
Nothing you said changes the fact that you people are pitting movies against one another in a pointless pissing contest.
>>
>>81518214
It's a reaction to the Zootopia shilling, and you know that. It wouldn't happen if people didn't circlejerk the movie like crazy or kept inside their own threads. The only people to blame are the furries who insist that everyone wants to fuck their waifu.

I love stats pages that only show up for like one second in movies.

Speaking of that, for Eurofriends: During Zootopia did they use the imperial system or the metric system in the Zootropolis localizations? The places to be looking for it would be when Clawhauser gives Judy the missing mammal file for Otterton and when Judy looks at Nick's employment application.
