excuse me but Year One was FAR FAR of being the best batman story.

also the art was average.
>>
>>81490209
that's because the story is about gordon
>>
>>81489733
Batman/TMNT crossover.
>>
Morrison's B&R is my favorite
>>
>>81490249
Of course, is more centered on Gordon.

and when you read a comic about Batman, you expect more Capeshit stuff than Gordon, but Year One was good anyway.

For me, it's this. Single issue story that got me hooked on Batman. Bunch of terrorists have taken over the hospital that Thomas Wayne used to work at, government agents turn up and take over from the GCPD. There's a bit with one of the bad guys opening a door and all you see behind is the yellow oval logo floating in the dark before Batman fucks him up.
>>
>>81490209
The art is great.

i haven't read dark knight strikes again, should i read it? i'm kind of curious for dk3 as well.
>>
>>81497641
DKSA is a very controversial work - as in people feel strongly about it from both sides of the spectrum. I can see why, cuz personally I really loved a lot of it but the parts I disliked, I'd probably really hate if they were 'canon'. So read it yourself and form your own opinion. I get the feeling DKIII will have the same mixed response when it's all said and done, but right now it's slow going so take your time.
>>
>>81497767

i get the feeling i will like dksa

but i also don't think dark knight returns needed a sequel, imo it was a perfectly self-contained story
>>
>>81497641
>>81497767
Haven't seen anyone giving a shit about DK3.
>>
>>81497641
DKSA is Miller taking risks and experimenting in ways that don't always pay off imo, but it's certainly worth reading at least once I doubt you'll find another comic like it. DK III isn't worth reading

FINE, if it makes you happy I'll give a shit here.

I think that Carrie Kelley growing to carry on the mantle of the Bat is the most obvious and correct follow-up to TDKR, both thematically and plot-wise, and so I'm super-on-board for that part of the story... and the way he writes WW and Supes, feels less like the mid-life crisis Miller of DKR, or the frothing-with-post-9/11-rage Miller of DKSA, but a wearier, wiser voice that comes with age and questioning your place in the world before you depart. I feel that stuff is earnest enough to be worth reading, esp. since it feel like it's going to be the LAST Miller story, despite his lofty talk of potential spin-offs.

That said, I'm unsure about the rest of the plot. Kandorian ISIS is shockingly on-the-nose - I can't believe DC wouldn't let him make Holy Terror as a Batman story, but IS okay with that. It just makes me think that their editors really ARE out of touch. I don't want to bother generating more hype until enough issues are out for me to see what the ratio of crazy-Kryptonian-Islam-analogy to Caroline "Ya'll Niggas Jelly" Kelley is.

I still haven't got around to reading/watching it.

Which should I do first? I've seen tons of people saying the animation is superior to the comic, should I watch it first?

Watch it, don't bother reading it. Even the comics that reference the event prefer the animated version to the comic.

Alright, thanks bruh.

To contribute to the thread, some stories that I really like but I rarely see people talking about:

Blind Justice, and all of Alan Gran'ts run really, if not for the stories, for that sweet Breyfogle art.
No Man's Land
Birth of the Demon and Vengeance of Bane are some villain-origin stories that I think are pretty gud.
O'Neil's and Englehart's runs are both well respected, but I've found that very few people have actually read them. They're pretty comfy reads, if that makes any sense. I have to force myself to read a lot of silver age stuff, but these two runs I just breezed through.

Well, you can find 'Batman in the Seventies' and 'Tales of the Demon', which have some of his stories, the I don't think the complete run has ever been collected.

I just downloaded the scans, really.

Anybody feeling like a short storytime? I have this issue of Action Comics which is technically a Batman/Superman story, but the way Batman is characterized (i.e. doing actual detective work and behaving like a detective) makes it a hidden Batman gem as well in my opinion.

That's all gents. Sorry about the page marker at the bottom. These are all screenshots taken from the CBR reader on my phone, and I was too lazy to figure out how to remove it.

If any of you know what happens after this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could fill me in. I've been wondering about that for a while now, and I can't seem to find AC #767. It was a big enough pain in the ass tracking down 766, believe me.

>>81502636
I forgot to say it while I was doing the actual storytime, but this is one of my all time favorite Batman moments. The way he describes the shit he's seen reminds me of a few retired cops I've spoken to. The stories they tell would turn your hair white. I love that this story acknowledges that Batman would be exposed to the same horrors, only on an even more frequent basis. That sort of thing tends to leave scars, even with a tough son of a bitch like Batman.
>>
>>81503002
Fans of Red Hood, Harley and/or Ivy, and Nightwing (specifically Nightwing, not Dick in general) usually are the worst people to talk about Batman with, I find, because they don't actually give a shit about Batman, Gotham or those characters' place in it. They just enjoy their own ongoings (which are usually mindless superhero pap) and don't see how ironic it is to hate on the book/character that led to their favorite character even existing to have a spin-off book in the first place.
>>
>>81503207
I see I'm not the only one who's observed that little phenomenon.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with getting more enjoyment from supporting or spin-off characters. There isn't even anything wrong with liking them more than the main character. It's not exactly uncommon. But lashing out against what allowed them to exist in the first place is pretty retarded.

I suspect we may be being trolled in any case though.
>>
>>81503322
I've seen it happen too often, too consistently over the years to be purely trolling... I think it's just that a lot of fans are teens, and both really passionate and really dumb about their love of funny books. It doesn't help that, being human and fallible, Batman is usually the first childhood hero to fall victim to babby's-first-deconstruction when they start naturally questioning authority, and being that he's seen as either a fatherly or abusive authority figure to his Bat-family and villains, its easy to project their issues onto him.

These two are the best bro pair in all of comics. And I love that even Batman isn't immune to Superman's influence.
