you know, it continues to amaze me just how good Blender can be, considering just how extensive and expensive WDAS' software is.
I keep on wondering what would happen if WDAS/Pixar ever made a movie entirely in blender. Now there's something I'd like to see.
>>81489169
Is that the one that anon was working on?

You don't. There's a download cap probably, but you can download anything with a standard membership

It's good but the face is not as good as it could be. It needs to have more control over the brow/cheek area.
>>81489707
Nice. Is that done with the exp denoising branch?
Dammit, need a converter to use it with Maya
>>81489169
if we had a fully detailed model like the movie, how long would it take to render on an average PC?
>>81489960
Probably a day or two.
4k movie renders can take several hours per frame when processing on a render farm, which'll have hundreds if not thousands of interlinked computers running synchronously.
>>81490002
I've never done anything with modelling. Does blender include, like, shaders and stuff? How does the thing work? Is it just for looking at 3D models?
>>81489949
>need a converter to use it with Maya
download blender and export the .blend file to collada or fbx you faggot
>>81489960
Depends on the scene length as well
>>81490091
But I already have Maya. Why would I download an inferior software, you hyperfaggot?
>>81489485
If a major studio chose to use Blender for a major project it'd mean having to commit to MAJOR overhauls throughout Blender and having their staff learn an entirely new set of tools for everything. The biggest problem with Blender is that everything in it was developed by programmers with little to no interaction with actual, professional level artists and you can really, really tell.
Yeah, it'd be interesting to see what comes out of it, great things for the open-source/free-to-use community, but it's never going to happen.
>>81489169
How many polygons do you think the real thing has?
>>81490137
Because it's free, unobtrusive and launches in literally one second.
>>81490062
It was developed as an all-in-one 3D application.
It can do modelling, sculpting, texturing, materials, rendering, animation, physics/simulations, cloth, particles, compositing, video editing, game development, etc.
As a result, don't expect any single aspect to be industry-leading tech or anything.
>>81490191
all of them
>>81490244
>Zootopia on the PS1
>>81490062
It's a full-blown 3D package. Technically you can manage an entire production through it (excluding creating sound assets), since it has tools for modeling, shading and texture painting, rigging, animation, composition and even video editing.
>>81490403
>>81490246
neat.
I'll definitely look into it. I feel like I should start building up somekind of skillset. All my University knowledge is purely academical.
>>81489949
Don't hold your breath. Porting the model isn't going to be easy. Models are easy enough but there is no way a Cycles material is going to work in another renderer. The armature may have some issues being ported as well. And I don' know for sure but I seriously doubt Blender's particle hair systems are compatible with anything else.
>>81490452
Just remember to pick one thing to be good at.
No one hires generalists.
>>81490232
Sorry I was taught in the industry standard and not some backwash software that's used for Minecraft animations
>>81490479
I believe the creator said the hair would have to be redone but everything else should port. I've never used maya so idk.

>>81482225
Guys, there's a thread already. Go there, or post this on /3/.
>>81490153
The training bit is the trickiest. Blender WAS developed specifically as an in-house tool in an animation studio, with an extremely specific interface and workflow in mind though. That's the problem; people tend to look for certain "intuitive" cues in software, and quickly rationalize the lack thereof as poor design once the frustration of clearing the worst bit of the learning curve sinks in.
Saying it like this is corny, but once it "clicks" together (and it does) you're freaking ONE with the software. You don't have to look through menu chains, or deal with the workflow slowdowns that basic operations designed to BE intuitive eventually cause. Once you learn it, it remains learnt.
Don't get me wrong: if you're planning to work as part of big pipelines, you still need to be trained in the industry staples; the Blender foundation employs its resources in keeping up, very much acknowledging they'll never be cutting edge and hold themselves as one of the big ones (now, consider the merit in turn of a corporation like Autodesk pointing out their tools are superior, pic cringeworthily related). But for freelancers and small studios, for indie filmmakers and animators, it's just simply perfect
Animatorfag here.
Just why? The only people interested in producing smut are amateurs. I don't come home from a 10 hour work day animating, to then animate someone else' digital paperweight and make smut for the internet.
The people who can do anything good with that rig (Which probably isn't very good) have jobs. If they don't, they'll never keep a job if anyone ever finds out about it.
>>81491735
>If they don't, they'll never keep a job if anyone ever finds out about it.
do you really think artists never make porn on their own time?
>>81491735
Plenty of "professional" artist produce porn. Plus professional is a shitty word. There's plenty of people who work off commission for their works and aren't an outright employee, they would never fall into your situation. Implying only amateurs produce smut aswell is ridiculous. Maybe in the case of animation, sure, but as far as art goes I've seen plenty of artist, mangaka, etc of the sort that produce porn that shows more technical prowess than most people who may call themselves "professional".
>>81492728
>>81491856
Not him but while you guys are sort of right you're also wrong, at least where animation is concerned.
Yes there are lots of artists, especially comic artists and animators, who draw pornographic stuff on their own time. However animation is a lot of work and eats up a lot of time. A professional animator isn't going to have the time to do full animated porn on the side unless that's all they want to do with their spare time, and like the guy said they'd likely be more inclined to make their own assets or use their own characters.
The guys who produce stuff and sell it online tend to do that full time and look to get paid for it. It's not something they just do on the side for their own amusement.
Well, I did it.
I've seen Zootopia 4 times in the theaters as of this evening.

>>81495176
You don't need to remind us.
During the making of video I was a little surprised at Byron just so blatantly stating he was gay. Well, at first I mean. Then he went on to talk about how everyone wants to feel accepted on some level and he just felt really passionate about getting that message across through the movie.
With how genuine he sounded and how nice it was, it felt like he wanted people in general to accept and supports others for any reason, not just some gay agenda thing. He seems like such a kind guy.
I just remembered that this strip from Sabrina Online might have had some inspiration to a certain key plot element from Zootopia...
it makes you wonder how deep into the furry fandom Byron really is.

He's been with his husband for 28 years (longer than most marriages) and being a gay man back in 1988 would be a lot harder than it is now. Certainly different than the whiny faggots and trannies on tumblr.
It also makes it even more obvious that Judy's neighbors are a gay couple.
>>81495380
>not just some gay agenda thing
Yeah, I think it was handled really well. They didn't make a huge deal about it, Byron wasn't introduced in the beginning of the movie as "gay Disney man", it didn't take center stage, it was just more relevant information.
But at the same time it wasn't shrugged of or just commented on, they gave that little fact the time it deserved because it is relevant and even important to know that man behind the movie personally knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of the subject matter that the movie's conflict rides on.

Yeah, nothing important that holds all of the incredibly dangerous and infectious bacteria in our body is located in our abdomen. Can you imagine? What if there WAS something there, and it was, like, all bundled up and messy and so it was nearly impossible to replace, removing the possibility of organ donations being able to save you trouble.
Or get this, imagine if doctors for thousands of years had been having mental breakdowns from being unable to prevent internal gangrene due to the crucial timing required to prevent the spread of e. coli that goes along with such an injury? Or if those injuries had recently only been not an excruciatingly slow and painful end of one's existence.
That would suck dick.

Maybe agenda is the wrong term, but you know what I meant. I guess agenda makes it sound like I'm anti-gay or something? Which I wasn't trying to be. My point was that at times when someone makes a point to say they're gay it's because they're making a big deal out of a mole hill. Well, in the sense that it matters. Being gay shouldn't matter in the sense that it's not a big deal, you know? Or shouldn't be, rather.
He was talking about the movie and its overall message and then so nonchalantly stated he was gay and married for 28 years. Instead of feeling like he was vying for attention, it felt like he was saying "The message behind this movie is something I understand, 100%, and here's why." It felt genuine, sincere, and like he was trying to help people see how having all these different biases and hatreds for things that are different are wrong. Instead of feeling hamfisted the movie did it well and relatable.
That's all I meant, man. Wasn't trying to stir up any /pol/ shit, honest.

I suppose the biggest issue they had while making it is they wanted you to love zootopia. But if that wasnt necessarily a goal, then i think theyd have an easier time doing the old draft.
But they wanted you to love the city, so the old story just doesnt work. Which is fine, the change was the right decision for what they were going for

Expected to be tough silent guy who's always composed and never afraid. Break down in private. Never let them see that they get to you. Feel uncomfortable talking about childhood trauma or depression to anyone other than psychiatrist.
I feel this movie so much, I feel Nick's point of view so much. You are what you are, no matter how many times you prove that you're good and that you're different than what they expect of you they'll still just see you as a creep. Unfortunately the world doesn't have a happy ending, I don't have someone to tell me it's gonna be okay. You can't necessarily be anything, there are limits that go beyond yourself. While it is possible to break those limits, sometimes an incredible amount of luck is required, but I'm still gonna try to be what I want to be despite the box people put me in. Even if they call me weird it's better than just accepting it and hating myself and everyone else for the rest of my life. This movie is bittersweet, it shows that almost everyone is limited. If we could all see that and let go of those notions imagine how much people would try new things and be who they want to be and not what other people expect them to be.
Fuck, I need to go lie down, this shit is too much.

Man i was hoping it would
One of the things that I'd have liked if Zootopia 1.0 was ever made was how the whole "only preds can act up and go crazy" was bullshit.
Fucking Hippos are the angriest and most dangerous animals in Africa.
That being pointed out would be great.
i feel like the released film was kind of watered down now after seeing more of the original. they lost a lot in the process and pulled the punches too much i think.
and i do agree with what people said about the ending dramatic turn. the set up it self was fine but it feels like it could've hit a lot more emotionally if it had been developed just a bit more. it felt rushed.
of course i'm late to see the documentary so i'm sure this has all been said before...sorry

i'm still unsure what the hell happened to the "parlez-vous rap" song that doesn't appear in the soundtrack that's been released. didn't find it on youtube or anything else either.

No, the rig itself is ingrained in Blender crap so it's not leaving Blender any time soon.
I suppose you could take the base mesh, port it out and then work from there but that's no simple process.

you had one job.
I remember that one thread someone said we'd be getting the r rated version that true and blue ray when?

I don't know why, but you sound like my father.
I was mildly bugged by his personality, but my friends always showered compliments about him to me.
I guess all I can say is that as long as you never act like Bernard Marx, you'll be fine.
>>81498703
woah there that's l-lewd
>>81498625
In seeing how the entire story and premise had to be reworked, I better understand why the ending feels so rushed.
In the original version you get your big emotional pay off when Nick saves Judy and she removes his collar. They wanted to recapture that pay off but in the end it was far too rushed.

What the fuck? This person is fucking insane. They actually feel a desire to crush someone's head in or decapitate their spouse and keep their head in a jar because they fins them cute? They identify with these clearly ironic cards? This person needs mental help, STAT.
Well, I did it. I have fully lost control of my life.and my art sucks.

it links there afaik but when i last checked, it wasn't
>>81498790
yeah, it makes sense. i wonder if those scenes with the early animation will be on the blu-ray? i would probably die of happiness if they just had one of the full-length proto-zootopia showings on there (but that seems very unlikely)

>>81498625
The truth of the matter is that the majority of people watch TV and movies to escape reality.
Most people wouldn't enjoy Zootopia 1.0's bitterness because it gets a bit too close to home and they don't go to the movies to be sad over a bunch of talking cartoon animals.
Naturally you have out liners like myself who THRIVE off suffering, not out of sadism but because the deeper the depths that one falls the more glorious the success when it occurs.
The triumphant victory against the the world trying to crush them or those of ignoble fate who are crushed but never surrendered or betrayed themselves. A tree will snap in the wind if it doesn't bend, but there's beauty in the tree not bending as well.
Those are the truly beautiful things I love.
Anyone have the english dub of this?

Honestly i think zootopia 1.0 would work better as a pg13 movie. Try to get rid of the idea its a kids movie and embrace the darker elemrnts (without going grimdark natch) I think that comic is a good idea of what a movie of zootopia 1.0 could be
But of course they set out to make a family movie so the change was the right choice

the more I know about the past of this movie the more I am convinced this was supposed to wake up our inner gays; handsome fox, unlikeable female, persecuted predators, its all about struggling homosexuals in modern world, Byron is gay, everything fits into the place.
No shame in being gay, show us your pride!
Say "I'm gay for proto-zootopia"
