Apocalypse is like a guy with a comically giant dick. He didn't ask for his dick, he's never had to learn how to use it, he just went into porn at an early age and never looked back because of the money he was making and the fact he spent his whole day fucking people and doing drugs, and now he's so strung out and jaded that all he can do is beat up on kids who weren't even born when he was starting out because that and the drugs are the only way he can even get an erection now, and most of those kids get out of porn because of that one first-time bad experience and end up going back to school and making a career for themselves in reality, while ol' bigdick can't even have an emotionally fulfilling relationship because he doesn't know how to make love or please a lover, only to fuck another body for the camera.

Celestial tech literally is like magic; so it can be operated by a guy with the education of a peasant laborer from 5000 years ago without any problems. There's no coding to do or heavy machinery to operate, it just runs itself.
So he runs out of his flying sphinx - which to him is the most intimidating thing imaginable, even if to us it's pretty shitty - and gets his ass kicked on a weekly basis because even the weakest X-Men are basically better than him through training. It's not about power levels, it's about intelligence: he doesn't have any. OK, maybe Cyclops has a tiny little cock, but at least he's not obsessed with power level deathmatching the universe. Nope, he stole Jacob Gavin's finger (another mutant with similar powers) when he and Gambit were on a time-travel adventure and used that to copy his powers.
Celestials obviously won't be a thing in this movie because Fox doesn't have the rights, but you think he might have some other kind of alien tech? They could hint that he got his stuff from the Shi'ar or something, then introduce that race in a later movie.

Apocalypse's main abilities are stretching,shrinking,shapeshifting,density manipulation and healing factor.
His other powers comes from Celestial technology and he uses it to enhance the powers of his henchmen.
Apocolypse jobs that's all you need to know. Sure he has his own universe where he didn't job, called Age of Apocolypse but that was only one time. Rest the time he just talks big, kidnaps four mutants, causes a lot of panic, then jobs to the Xmen who kill him. Then later his cult resurrects him because he's basically Celestial technology rather than a mutant anymore. Rinse, wash, repeat.
