DESU, I have never ever gotten the love for this series.
Of all the 90s Superhero cartoons, it seemed like the worst with the worst animation easily.
Yeah Spiderman wasn't allowed to punch things but the animation wasn't nearly as choppy as this was.

I absolutely violently despise Emma Frost 80% of the time in comics. (The Cuckoos moreso)

And I totally adored this stern but sweet motherly Emma from the X-Men anime.
And this outfit is one of the best Emma outfits ever.
It's very Victorian-ish high class but still hyper seuxalized at the same time.
ideal for Emma.

Actually Superboy is Superman and Lois son now. The way it always should have been
>>
>>81471380
this show had huge story arcs, that was basically unheard of at the time, no action cartoon had entire seasons dedicated to one single saga which called upon earlier lore.

It was one of if not the single greatest written cartoon for an extremely long time, plus the voice acting was top fucking notch, animation was spotty like Spider-Man of course but that was inconsequential as there was nothing better to compare it to except BTAS and Spider-Man.

It's incredible how much better Godzilla TAS was to the 1998 American movie (and I say that as someone who likes that movie)

Gave us a Godzilla in the 98 body with the Personality of classic G and Atomic breath.
Made Matt Broderick's character a actual bad ass leader and gave him a fun supporting cast.
Gave the American Godzilla his own rogues gallery without resorting to ripping off Toho Monsters for the most part.

Didn't know that. I always use Zod because he's Vegeta to me and this idea is just ripping off Trunks in a way. Making Super-Boy sort of his own thing because....

>>81471448

Okay, that's cool and makes more sense but I also like having a Super Boy that isn't related to Super Man directly because he's an alien and can't reproduce with a human. So the Zod-Son-Super-Boy is pure kryptonian in the only way it's possible.

Gohan is acceptable though.

Mind you I'm not talking about the concept of Hobgoblin.
I'm talking about Philip Jason Macendale, a very shitty villain in the comics, whom Howard Mackie tried to turn into a badass by giving him military/CIA/mercenary background but that didn't work because you can't be a badass AND a cowardly, whiny little bitch like Macendale.

Spider-Man TAS Macendale was thousand times smarter, more charismatic and weirdly enough even more sympathetic despite being a textbook sociopath.

She was an old 80's villain that had a handful of appearances. But they improved her by giving her a less dated design and making her more sympathetic without losing the essential parts of her character.

The show missed the mark with people like Pyg or Anarky, but they did get a lot of villains right.

It was so good that even Alan Moore liked it.

It certainly helped that Bruce Timm et al. actually asked Moore for permission first, though.
>>
>>81471140
Jason's voice in this was goat in this movie. You could honestly feel his pain in the whole " Bruce i forgive you for not saving me"
>>
>>81476093
Apparently that's not true, or at least there's no evidence one way or the other that Moore liked it:

http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2016/02/05/comic-book-legends-revealed-561/3/

Timm only said Moore approved the episode, but there's no record of Moore saying he liked it.

After the episode aired, Timm wrote:

>dave gibbons sent me a nice email, he found it very enjoyable overall, thought it was a successful adaptation, understood why we changed the things we did….i’ve not heard from mr. moore yet, so i don’t know if that’s good or bad …hopefully he liked it….we may never know…

But Moore did ask for a copy of the episode when he approved it.

So at most we can concretely say that Moore didn't hate it enough to withhold approval, but we just don't know how he feels about it.

Absolutely not. It failed in the same way that the Supergirl episode did, we saw nothing of Krypton itself. It was just people they were related to. The meat of the comic where Superman's "perfect" world is still very clearly imperfect was mostly lost. Also Batman's dream in the episode was trash. Literally just his dad punching Joe Chill.

It wasn't a bad episode (that's the difference between it and the Supergirl "adaption") but it was in no way better than the source material.
>>
>>81473027
Sad that it even took this long for someone to point out this literally already happened. It wasn't even an obscure run, Johns gets highly recommended around here and Busiek used Chris a lot too. /co/ really doesn't read comics at all, does it?
>>
>>81479883
In general the comic was very rough and it jumped arcs haphazardly. Not to mention Shredder was supposed to be this giant badass after they've disposed of him in the first issue, which made it weird.
For all it's faults the 4kids cartoon was probably the best adaptation of the original comic, superior to it despite being made kid-friendly.
I don't know if it was the best version of TMNT though

>>
>>81471525

DCAU Brainianc was my first version of Brainiac. I was super disappointed to find out that the original is just some crazy alien.

DCAU's rogue computer program makes way more sense, feels far more creepy, and has a much stronger connection to Superman.
>>
>>81471311
Was it ever explained how DCAU Brainiac 5 was both a Coluan and Brainiac's descendant even though DCAU Brainiac was a Kryptonian AI? All I remember is him saying that Brainiac over time gave himself the ability to reproduce but Brainiac-5 directly references being a Coluan.
>>
>>81481228
I agree with this.

The best animated series adaptations obviously have the benefit of hindsight, but they really do make some of the more tortuous comics stories more accessible by streamlining them. For example, while I'm not a huge fan of the 1990s X-Men series (I have a hard time looking past the poor-to-middling animation quality), one of the things the writers got right was cutting down on all the alternate future nonsense and tying Cable and Bishop's origins together. It wasn't perfect, but it holds together better and is more accessible than the jumbled, garbled contradictory stuff in the comics.
>>
>>81477125
I disagree. I loved the movie but I fucking hated this version of Ajax. Cyborg Ajax was better all round and merging Killbrew and Ajax into just evil British scientist really hurt Deadpool's origin story since a large part of the Ajax story is Deadpool coming to forgive Killbrew.

This and all his support cast. Falcon, mainly.

Started out interesting but faltered
Was never impressed with Marz's writing with the comic though

It was much better than the movie.

>Book
Top tier Fascist literature, it really is Cultural Fascism.
>Movie
Satire of Hitlerite National Socialism and Mussolini's Italian Fascism, really funny and well done stuff, while being kinda loyal to the original source material.
>TV
Mix of both, obviously can't be political, but it still did a good job getting it across.
>>
>>81471701
There is no lie here.
>>
>>81483938
Yes, but the show uses the movie as a source more so than the book with a couple of exceptions.

No, but at least he didn't slashed Jason's throat to save Joker.

Roughnecks was a synthesis of the movie and book, but far more influenced by the movie. The Bug designs were ripped straight from the 1997 movie, Dizzy is a female and new Johnny from HS, Carl/Al are represented as a single exported character and lives and is psychic, etc.

There really wasn't a whole lot of stuff from the book besides the Skinnies and the powersuits.

Probably the only arc where they didn't went full retard adapting it, but still terra's fall from grace was too forced and didn't feel as organic as in the comic, still a good effort for such a shit series
>>
The american 'Zilla cartoon which was technically a sequel to the film

MODOK was close to being GOAT, but then he jobbed to Controller and Justin Hammer.

Did you go into a coma right before Johns wrote Last Son, and no one has told you about this nu52 thing?
>>
>>81471547
how is the cartoon better than...a video game that values gameplay over story? And more importantly, that's not even the best adaptation. Check out the Archie comics and the Megamix/Gigamix manga.
>>
>>81482527

But Under the Red Hood isn't part of the DCAU.

Justice League Beyond 2.0 #8

Read the first 7 issues though
>>
>>81473543
I third that.
>>

I never got why Superman would keep mentioning Rao. He literally grew up in the Bible Belt, and most of the Kryptonian's he meets either want him on dead or on his knees.
>>
>>81481992
He was gonna walk away but Jason was mad that Batman wouldn't kill the Joker, so Jason was going to shoot Batman.
>>
>>81482527
>implying Under the Red Hood movie isn't all the good parts of the comic minus the retarded
How is Batman killing Jason to save the Joker better than Batman simply stopping Jason rather than take his ultimatum?
>>
>>81471701
The comic is pretty good though.
