Fuck the haters, this movie is far more clever and charming than it's constantly made out to be. Not only is the cinematography top-notch and up there with the aesthetic of the likes of Wes Anderson, but beneath all the oft-lambasted innuendos and Mike Myers-isms is some clever social commentary of America in a post-Reagan, post-9/11 society. For a moment I even forgot Alec Baldwin was playing a character.

This movie is a masterpiece. Look past its status as an adaptation of the beloved Dr. Seuss book and examine closely its components as a film and see that this truly is a forgotten classic. How did they even get away with some of the jokes? If you hate this movie, you hate fun. And if you hate fun then get the fuck out, you pleb YOU DON'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW CINEMA

>there are people on this board RIGHT NOW who think The Cat in the Hat is a bad movie

It was absolutely hilarious with brilliant cinematography and colors. Bo Welch and Emmanuel Lubezki deserve far more credit for this work of art than the so-called "critics" have ever given them.

This movie was literally so bad that Dr. Seuss' widow never allowed a live-action Seuss movie again.
>>81468710
The set design was honestly pretty great, but the cinematography felt awkward.
>>
It and The Grinch are definitely guilty pleasures.

I'd say The Grinch is stronger though, really Mike Meyers is the only thing that holds Cat in the Hat together.

This movie didn't actually bother me when i saw it (like 3 years after it came out).

But its definitely not for children or a good adaptation of Seuss

I fell asleep on a long flight over the pacific and woke to a dark passenger cabin glowing with the screens of the inflight movie. I had no idea why I had woke until I could understand the sound of a single loud and booming laugh. I saw a man with his headphones plugged in to listen. I saw the screen and it was Cat in the Hat. I had awaken into a nightmare.

I think that was The Grinch Grinches The Cat in the Hat. Or maybe it was The Cat in the Hat Gets Grinched.
Those were the two titles for the special when I was younger.

I disagree. While the movie actually has some good parts, and anons are posting them, much of the film is submerged in painful jokes that try too hard to act adult. The Dr.Seuss adaptations always seem to be unfunny sell outs to me. Also the kids were pretty awful. Here is a clip from the film that basically contains all my problems for the film.

I was reading the comments for that video and came across this:

>It's really weird when you realize Emmanuel Lubezki did the cinematography for this. And if you didn't know he has already won 3 Oscars in a row for cinematography. The films he did cinematography for:
>The Revenant
>Birdman
>Gravity
>The Tree Of Life

This isn't /s4s/, /b/, /v/, or some other shitposting board, so there are a lot more things to talk about and do than post Bateman just because someone got dubs.
Maybe you should go back to one of them if people not giving a shit about repeating digits triggers your oldfag cred so much.

With the grinch, it was kinda like they knew what they had and just expanded on it here and there. Cat in the Hat tried to toss in adult and raunchy humor when it didn't need to.

Not to mention that the suit was not that good looking.

>This movie was literally so bad that Dr. Seuss' widow never allowed a live-action Seuss movie again.

She was 81 when this movie was released and she's 94 now, I sincerely doubt she's still actively making decisions on how the business estate of her late husband is run.

In any case it seems unlikely she would have a say over what kind of movie was made at all if she had no oversight over this one and ended up hating it. It's more likely that after this and with CGI improving year on year around that time to the point that it could support feature-length animations of increasing complexity and realism as well as the obvious appeal of these movies to children, Universal decided to go all digital for future releases. To be perfectly honest there's only so many rubber faced funnymen who you can dress up in ridiculous costumes and cunt around for 90 minutes, and they'd already used Carrey.

>In any case it seems unlikely she would have a say over what kind of movie was made at all if she had no oversight over this one and ended up hating it.
Thats what its like to run an intellectual property estate, you just sell the concepts off to companies and they do whatever, but you can put stipulations on them depending how much you care. Once she realized how bad it could be she cared more and has probably something written down for after she dies
