In source material Talia kills him too, but only when he was already somewhat developed (not saying he's the deepest character, but the comics treated him better than the movie) and only after a fight scene that felt pretty big in scope (at least at the time when I read BatInc). And his presence felt throughout an entire Batman Incorporated run.

I can answer that. Damian is basically Batman, without any of the leeway Batman gets from fans. This is almost exactly how Batman acts all the time, like he's better than everyone else and they just get in the way.
