Was a casual fan from way young, my Uncle gave me his big box of old comics, tons of stuff, and he explained all the old characters to me and even read some of them to me, doing voices an everything.

I was always keen on the cartoons, grew up watching Batman and Superman TAS for years, even bought a few comics myself during the 90s.

But I became an avid fan and regular purchaser after I read Kingdom Come in a single sitting. Loved it, and started picking up other trades and series.

So, I was born in the late 70s, and my parents were only 20 or so, and my dad actually used to read me his Marvel and DC stash that he'd accumulated from the early 60s onward. Actually helped me learn to read that way. I was mostly impressed with Thor and Spider-Man. I got picked on when I started kindergarten for sometimes talking like Thor in the old comics (as in, "Hey anon, do you want a piece of gum?" "VERILY!"). I read every page, even the ads for the shitty toys. From Marvel, I picked up the annoying habit of saying "Excelsior" instead of "bye" or whatever.

Literally cannot remember a time in my life before I got into comics.

I still have Dad's comic stash btw. Bagged and boarded and cherished. I just don't really take them out very much anymore, unless I'm trying to show off one of my gems to a friend.

I had been reading comics since I was six and most of the ones I read back then were ones I bought at the grocery story back in the late 90's

It wasn't until I was 8-9 when I got into comics full time. My mom was fairly influential in getting me into Shazam/Captain Marvel and Green Lantern

As far as pick related goes, it's what made me love comics so much. I couldn't have cared less for Batman, but the story was enthralling and led me to loving Japanese period dramas and Samurai films

I was five years old and given a stack of some 200 torn-up comics that belonged to a babysitter's older brother. X-Men 2099 was the first series I fell in love with, since it was the easiest to find a #1 on the stands at the time, but I read the hell out of this book and consider it the first. It was only two years ago that I managed to get a complete run of UXM/XM from Claremont up until Bendis. I'm trying to find the Adams issues for cheap, working my way back.

Terrible habit, would recommend again.

that's how i got into the manga, but the manga was wayyyy better. for a shonen fight manga, there's actually a lot of spiritual, cultural, and philosophical layers to it. its like one of those gems that everyone acknowledges as good but never talks about it

In 1992 I as 11 years old and had a passing knowledge of the big name characters in comics. Then here in Canada we were blessed with a series of specifically Canadian Spider-Man stories that were given out at schools and fairs, etc. I was the perfect age to appreciate it, and from there transitioned into X-Men books.

There were comics before it, here or there, but I first got really into comics with the Lee era of X-Men.
I started subscribing right before X-Cutioner's Song, and had no idea what the heck was happening, because I had no idea what a crossover was, but I stuck with it. Right after that I was deeply impressed by the first digital coloring in the issue that Revanche (sorta?) died in. I've been a fan of comic book art in particular ever since.
And of course I still love X-Men before all others.
I think I was about 12 ... -ish.

My first comic was planet of the apes from like the80s idk honestly but the first cape comic i read was weapon x. What got me into comics tho was johnny the homicidal maniac when i was 12 im 24 now

Pretty much this. My mom would get me huge bundles of DC Comics when I was a kid, but I sold most of them in sixth grade when my interest was waning. Later that year I picked up the tpb of Dark Knight Returns and never looked back.

I was around 8-10 years old I think? It was an X men issue. I was too young to remember what issue or series it was from and I've tried my hardest to find it to no avail. I hope one day I will get a chance to read it again

I'm not completely sure. From the age of the files I have, I would guess it was that Batman Under the Hood movie. After that I read all of post crisis Batman and loved it.

So I would have been 16

I think I'd just turned 15; I read a bit of Battle for the Cowl and understood that Batman died. Started a pull list to get pic related and Red Robin. Stopped after the first 12 issues/year of RR, kept with B&R until Bruce came back (I'd gone back and read Morrison's run to understand the scope) and kept reading for a few more issues

12. Because this issue caught my eye on that same birthday.

Granted, a lot of those extra pages were reprints of old stories, but this was the jumping point for a new arc and the story and art were compelling enough that I wanted to read the back issues of it.

Keep in mind, this was before the movie, so tracking down Iron Man GNs was a total chore.

At most, i was able to get the 1st ESSENTIAL collection and "Mask in the Iron Man" arc.
