I can't imagine they'd put the guy without shared experiences and friendships with the other characters in Trinity. It just wouldn't make sense. This is a guy who already failed to step in to help them when times were rough and probably led to a bunch of unnecessary deaths.
Maybe you could craft a story for JL around new 52 heroes building trust for him, but I don't see it happening for a friendship-y lovefest series like Trinity. It was really fucking shitty to have him hiding in the new 52 continuity for years instead of just having him show up in the present. I don't know why they did that. The last thing Superman does is sit around and watch people get hurt.

My standards aren't low; I do want better than what we've gotten. But that's the expectation for an ongoings most of the time. You're not generally going to get much better than this between the GOAT runs. It was the same pre-Flashpoint too after Johns left. Nothing really amazing but New Krypton had some neat stuff and the only really bad part era was JMS's shit. And even going back further it's not like Kelly's run or the triangle years era were without their warts.
You don't have to buy everything. You don't have to read everything. But this is how it goes. Wait for someone to hit it out of the park, but no sense in crying about the norm.

I don't consider Morrison's Action one of the GOAT runs but even if you did, along with his and Geoff's Superman, that's 25 or so issues out of over 100 with Superman and Action combined. Thank God for books like the digital-first AoS series and American Alien, otherwise the drought would be even worse.

I think the crossovers are a big part of the problem in general. Both Yang (fight club arc) and Pak (underground, Smallville, first Truth arc) told good stories when not being forced to tie into other books heavily. I don't know why that seems to be what DC wants to do with the Superbooks to the point where it's not back to back crossover shit.

It is the best run on character from this century though. I like Busiek and Johns but both run ended abruptly, Kelly's run was hampered by crossover fuckery and Rucka's first AoS run was good but felt very much it's own thing.
